He should caddie for a young player They would learn so much old school advice which will stand the test of time. , but I would love to have a game with OMP one day.
Good comment by OMP about the divot showing the swing path. And in the immortal words of a fellow Canuck, the great Moe Norman, when you make a divot, make bacon strips and not pork chops. Saw a pelt or two go flying.
OMP all day long. His knowledge of the game is money can't buy advice. As an amateur golfer (high handicapper) I have paid for lessons which haven't worked as the golf pro was giving me advice which was beyond me. OMP simplifies everything and listening to him and his 'no fuss' golf it is helping me bring my handicap down
Spot on there mate. It's way easier to predict a roll rather than a flight. I sometimes think it's a problem when you've got all these wedges. If Seve could hit a 3 iron out of a bunker, a Sand Wedge or Pitching Wedge should be good enough for most.
OMP is right, you have to play the shot you are hitting that day and trust it. Hindsight is 20/20, but I have noticed on wet greens the ball doesn't break as much as fast dry greens. Enjoyed the video, OMP is the man.
Great video liam pat is a star should have his own tv show one thing that does annoy me is the people that give the videos a thumbs down if you dont like the videos don't watch them and let the people that do like them watch them in piece keep up the great work liam
Best video yet!!! To have a mentor like that is once in a lifetime!!! Stay with his ideas on the short game. It seemed more of a father and son round than a teaching round. Good on you both!!! #TEAMOMP
level par and you made it seem easy under pat's guidance. If there is no trouble in front use a seven or eight iron to chip I will definitely remember that thank you Pat.
Liam, noticed when setting up with driver, your feet not aligning to target line and shoulders. Added to that an over the top swing hence the slice/fade. Hope this helps a bit. 👍
One of the points to take is you are not currently drawing the ball... so start off line changing tk other side of fairway will be a great help. Ull be channelling my inner OMP to talk me round Worsley Marriott Park on Wednesday
Love OMP as my caddy! Liam...you seem to have a bit of "Sergio" going on while on the box. If you watch OMP, one practice swing and he rips it everytime! You might give it a try, less thinking and just doing! You have been playing long enough to speed up the routine on approach at the tee box. I've witnessed many ladies play twice as fast and right down the middle, pick up the pace mate! lol Love this episode! thanks! :)
Have you thought about giving the golf mates an insight to the World handicap System that’s coming in, in the U.K. in November. We are starting to see a few changes around our course so that they are compliant. I know there are some good videos on the pga site but it’s good to get a few live examples of how it all works and how it will impact on us Golfmates.
I play with a guy who is 66, been down to 4. After playing he will say to me “should’ve taken 2 iron here”, “try a fade on that one next time” little things that experience tells you to think about. So helpful.
FWIW... when you make a practice swing the club is travelling on a good path, then you address the ball and slide your hands out to address the ball... think you should stand closer to the ball, it would force your path more from the inside...
Jamie Coburn exactly, then he swings outside in, he is reaching for it, first setup is better, then he lifts his hands, OMP should have stood behind him then kicked his backside 😃
just wondering if OMP played as conservative when he was a single digit handicapper. i also think he is right about more weekend golfers need to play more conservatively or manage the course, to put it a different way
OMP - the legend... I’ve learned long ago to always listen to my elders as youth and exuberance will never out do age and experience! Brilliant, just brilliant! 👍👍
I agree. In the other videos he recaps the advice and talks about how brilliant OMP is, and then when he has to play a round following the advice he wants to discuss a lot. I guess it is good for us to see though because that is probably how anyone would react. Your own instincts take over and you return to bad habits eventhough you know better. Even with OMP right there, his mind will not let him listen because he wants to do well on camera. I feel like part of the problem is he is trying to do better right away instead of trying to implement the advice to get better in the long run. I mean he takes ONE swing after OMP corrects his stance and says “that’s not better”. Of course it isn’t! It’s your first time trying that stance. You have to work it in. It seems a good place to go from here with the series would be to talk about mentality with OMP
Brilliant video...much better than all the convoluted rubbish online..Pat ...you definitely could be a pro caddy..Liam ..keep listening to him and you will only improve...in your videos Liam you always say ...its only a game and Pat has developed the ease and consistency by thinking just that...you only need to look at his driving ..tee up..practice.. hit..middle of the fairway..Thank you both.
Liam, I thought crossed my mind. As a top 8 caddie on the ET, you are an experienced and accomplished caddie for a pro. I think it is possible that, at times, this fact hiders your own game. If so, why? I think it's entirely possible that the thoughts you have for yourself are closer to thoughts you would have for your pro than you would if you were caddying for a 7 Hcp. I have no idea how OMP would be as an ET caddie, however, he is a brilliant caddie for an amateur! And this may be precisely why your thoughts and OMP's differed like they did in this video. In a number of cases, OMP had to completely change your mindset. If you take the lessons from today to heart, I believe your path to lower scores will be smoother.
Golf Mates I’m with you. After the Driver, next club down is a driving iron. Would need to spend several afternoons at the range with only the 3 Wood to even begin to think about having it back in the bag.
Brilliant! Great to see OMP back on the channel - and to have him share his wisdom is even better. Two takeaways that are simple. 1) You don't have to tee off in the middle of the tee ... pick the best right / left / middle point to open up the faraway for your golf style. 2) Bump and run. I've been a fan of the much derided 'chipper' for a while 'cos if the ball is not on the ground it's unlikely to go in the hole. A controlled shot that get's it near enough and is rolling is usually more likely to drop than a high pitch shot. (IMO - and I'm no Tiger Woods)
As I said last video play the whole not the course. Knowledge of the course is as vital as your shot. Well done you played some brilliant shots and OMP was brilliant. Excellent work both of you. 🏴🇬🇧
I wanted to hear more of OMP explaining his reasons for various shots, if Liam would not interrupt. What was OMP’s handicap when he was Liam’s present age?
With the 8 iron chips around the green you are eliminating the thin through the green or the two foot duff . And their is more of a chance of getting a par or bogey . With the wedges its possible double or treble bogies . OMP is spot on . Legend .
Like Pat said, "no reason to use a wedge when there's no problems in front of you". Get the ball on the green and let it run to the hole. Stop trying to fly the ball to the hole. The quicker the ball gets rolling, the straighter it'll go. Listen to "The Master", he knows all! If you're going to have Pat "caddy" for you, then Liam, stop arguing with him and do exactly as he says. This was your idea and you fought him on many suggestions. By the way, stop blaming the wind on your slice. Fix your swing.
Love the themes. 1 use right side of tee box to stop you from aiming right. 2. Keep ball lower on chip shots near green. 3. Think about aiming points to minimize hazards. 4. Play with confidence. 5. Learn to hit three wood off fairway
You wouldn't wear the tank top but wear those black golf shoes with ankle socks and shorts all the time....something wrong with you mate but I think that's why we love you haha Before I did my back in a few weeks back I was using OMP's traffic light system and generally thinking "what would OMP say" and it definitely improved my game and made me chill out a lot more, great vid as always lads.
Your divots are 45 degrees to your target line , ball is always going right. Stronger grip , club more to the inside on back swing , your draw will return. Cheers from Texas Golf Mate.
Liam There are Go0lfmates all over who would love toi have OMP as a caddy. And probably 95% would dramatically improve their game. Unfortunately you will not improve because you are a single minded person and any coaching or suggestions go in one ear and out the other. We will see this in your future videos. This is such a shame as we would all like to see you play to a better standard. but we have seen no improvement even after Dave,s tips and OMP,s assistance.Forget the "entertainment man with the silly sayings" show us that you CAN play to a really good standard every week as with OMP.
Liam!!! Around the greens the task is to get the ball on the dance floor as soon as possible if nothing to carry over. Wedging it is the high tarrif red light shot!!!
The 8 and 7 iron chips with green to work with are the way forward. I'm never more than six feet away with them. With a wedge I get more inconsistent results. Super fast greens and tight lies on fairways are different as I am guarenteed some check and spin.
thanks Liam. Just started watching your channel. Thanks for the laughs and the entertainment. I have learned a lot about strategy by watching OMP. Hopefully, the videos keep coming. How about a video where the first guy drives. Player 2 tees off. Player 1 must decide if he wants him as a partner. If not player 3 tees off. Player 1 again must decide if he wants him as a partner. If not player 4 is his partner. Lowest score wins hole. Rotate 1st driver on next hole. Repeat process. Player with the lowest score at the end wins a five from each player.
With no trouble between you and the hole, the 8I is the play for anyone outside of scratch. Chances are, if you practice that same shot, 10 with the wedge, 10 with the 8I, the 8I will outperform the wedge. But you have to practice that shot with the 8I and be ready!
Hi Liam I think we all got some fantastic golf advice from the master old man Pat you learn something valuable each day I would get him to do another video with you or eBay Peter and I think we all can learn and make better golf decision that could help to improve all the golf mates. Danny
Well done Pat great stuff talking Liam through his game . He does stand along way away with his driver looks like he is stretching for the ball . Well done Liam the little 8 iron bump and runs were superb .
OMP’s approach to golf has been a great help to me. Loved the video. Great advice for you Liam. Position on tee box really helps especially if you naturally slice or fade. Awful pulled putt on first. The old mantra ‘never up never in’ will always apply (or as OMP SAYS ‘a bit more forceful’). Pat’s advice when close to the greens is invaluable. This is a great instructional video.
Liam...progress comes in small bits at a time. You won't see dramatic changes right away, but if you continue to listen to OMP, you'll definitely see gradual improvement.

“When you hit that slice, no wind is going to bring it back!” Great caddy!!!! Love it!
