I've been struggling with the draw/hook with my XR16 driver. Interestingly enough, I had the opposite problem with my previous driver. I have been told I should go for a fitting again and I guess I will after seeing your results. As usual, your videos speak to us "the average golfers". Great video Andy.
I had a similar experience, went in looking for the pxg 0811x, since I love my Pxg irons and the epic with a custom shaft, fujikura atmos, turned out to have better carry, total distance and dispersion.
Fascinating video, Andy. Thanks! Your earlier test of the G400 SF Tec with the regular flex shaft had such great numbers that I would have liked that setup tried during your fitting. While most people think of the SF Tec model as being draw-biased, Ping says its bias is straighter drives, and in your earlier test it did seem to tame your over-draw tendency.

Andy... excellent! I have both G400 and Epic. For me G400 has the better sound and feel, I really enjoy hitting it. However, the Epic is definitely longer. Good luck with your new Epic! Your swing is very much improved from earlier videos.

Hi Andy, for dispersion have you considered using a slightly shorter shaft ? I experimented taking an 1" off the TM std length and it absolutely made the club more controllable. The way I did it was to use a slightly softer shaft, Project X 5.5 instead of 6 and then take an inch off the tip. This brought the stiffness back up and made the head feel very stable and also resulted in a small distance gain. Due to hitting closer to the center more often rgds Dave
I really enjoyed this. I am a huge data geek and love the process. It was much like mine. I ended up with the SUBZERo Epic and was surprised. i went in thinking the Mizuno JPX 900 was the one for me. The numbers off the Epic was unreal. I was gaming a PING i25 driver and up until the Epic, none went as far as the i25. I literally gained about 15 yards on my drives and a much better flight and distance. Keep up the good work. Loved the video.
Hi, I've also just had a driver fitting with Frazer, to be recommended for sure. I had expectations of what I might come out with which was the g400 standard driver as I'm a high handicap player and it is billed as forgiving. Based on looks I was hoping the Mizuno 900 would come out on top, I struggled with the g400 and tested the M2 as well but the Epic was easily the best suited driver for me. I now need to learn how to get the best from it. First time I've been fit for a driver and the driver I was using was worst the second worst of all the clubs I tested, so hoping to see some improvements in the handicap soon. :)
Just had a proper fitting today myself. In my case, the PING G400 was 11 yards longer with a Tensei Blue shaft (and MUCH tighter dispersion) than the Epic with the same shaft. Of course, each person is different....
Andy, I have a question for Frazer if I may, after listening to a lot of different experts talking about club shafts, reading between the lines my interpretation is that the actual shaft you fit although it can change the weight and also feel of the club when striking the ball (and therefore probably some mental positives and negatives) how much difference does it actually make to the end result ie where the ball ends up, thanks again.
Great video Andy! I also have the epic and have hit my longest drives ever with it. When the g400 came out with the sound being better than previous models I was scared to test it. In the end I was very happy with my epic and even have the sub-zero 3 wood to match. I thought for sure you were going to pick up the g400 just like fried eggs golf. Both are great options.
would have been interesting to see you ht the sub zero callaway - especially as you dont seem to need the adjustable weight on the epic- ive had both fitted and the sub zero added 3 mph and roughly 9 yards with the same dispersion - enjoyed the video mate

The numbers are good but as you rightfully point out, no club is ever a substitute for a good swing! Hope it performs well but we shall see. Do not mention cost in any comments!!

M2 had great dispersion aside from that one shot short and right (heel strike?). The consistency of the spin numbers with Epic was remarkable in this test and I think that's the clear winner for you.
i would have liked to have seen another shaft in the G400. the Alta shaft is top heavy if im not mistaken. but my that Epic did perform well for you! it will be interesting to se your next corse vlog.
yes but the Alta is heavy in the gripend to allow them to make the clubhead heavier to increase MOI right? so with lets say the Kuro Kage shaft you might have gotten a better dispersion with the G400. but i really dont think it would be even close to the numbers u got from the Epic anyway. ( just being a bit nerdy) :-)
Question. If you use same shaft for each head would the driver head weight be the same and if different it would change swing weight and making shaft more stiffer or flexible

Didn't think it was anything special conpaired to my M2, and definitely not as long. so it was sold by March and £80 profit 👍 I have noticed a lot of folk banging on about it, maybe it's high handicap golfers that really see the big improvements! Either way it's a great driver for most but just meh for the rest of us! Good luck with your new toy.

What’s really interesting here Andy is that your dispersion is much improved with the Epic, and yet I have been told by a number of people is that the Epic whilst long is not as forgiving. And yet you are dispelling that right now.

Average Golfer I agree Andy, i was tested for the Ping G400 as I really thought it was for me but ended up doing so much better with the Titleist 917 D2 Driver once it was adjusted for me with my heavy draw issues. I now have confidence in the Driver I use and know that as I improve so my driver can be adjusted to change with me.
Really interesting Although I am struggling with a block right I also use the Epic. You swing a little bit faster and get a little bit more ball speed but I hit the ball a little further than you with the driver. The big difference between us is the height of ball flight. You need to hit it higher - I think you have another 10 yards inyou
I will do some additional testing when I have the driver but the higher launch should increase spin which may impact on overall distance but tbf Id be happy if I could produce these numbers on the course!

nice one its a no brainer numbers dont lie people say there exspensive but you can get a 6 month 0% interest free credit thats only £71 a month so all the people that say its a rip off is it for you 15 yards. like you said 1 and half clubs differance thats a game changer for most average players.

Went to Shawn's coaching day when he came out OZ, very nice bloke and a great teacher. This shows all the more reason to take clubs on the course, as launch monitors are optimized for their version of "perfect conditions". The part the Clement video was highlighting was that when used indoors, Trackman's dispersion/ball flight direction is based on an assumption rather than capturing the actual face conditions open/closed and area of impact. So you can get a result that doesn't show the true ball flight / landing spot

Can't understand why when your flight was obviously so high with the Ping standard head, even delofting it, you were not then offered either the regular head at 9.0, or even more obviously the low spinning LSTEC. Sounds like poor fitting, or anyone would think they wanted the Epic to win!
Not a valid test. You are comparing apples & oranges. For a proper evaluation of the 3 heads including TM M2, you need to put the same shaft (that's optimized for your swing) & compare them accordingly. The numbers should then be more comparable.
Each club had the best performing shaft in each brand for my swing?? The CB Alta shaft is only available in Ping drivers and is optimised for the G400?

You are correct Howie but more extensive testing showed more consistency in the std head for me personally

The CB Alta was 59g stiff, the Fujikura Callaway was 66g stiff

The CB Alta shaft is actually slightly lighter that the Fujikura in the Epic Tomas, hopefully on the course with it soon

Thats a good question James, I will ask for you.
Be fitted for a driver, not just try 1 shaft. The tour shaft would have lowered your spin with the ping, or use the LS Tech.
