This song is the start of the album and yes, as in some other songs of this album, he is talking to God and at the same time being kinda self-destructive (you can see when he says "rain down and destroy me" or when he says "take me out and finish this waste of a life" in trapdoor). I really recommend listening this album in order because its a beautiful story from the beginning to the end
I low key miss hearing Tyler playing the piano in this way & the way he dies on the self titled album, it’s so beautiful. I’ve always thought this whole album could be turned into a musical play… I’d definitely pay to watch that. A song on this album that I personally love & has a lot of meaning to me is Before you Start your Day.
If you remember the Paladin Strait clip you will also remember that bishops summon lightning. even though it was an old song it already talked about it. I don't think Tyler has this dark vision of God, it makes more sense for him to be talking about the plan he created.
So, as the title suggests Tyler is in fact asking for proof from God existence. But the way that he is asking for that proof is by being struck down by lighting because if God does exist then he would have "deserved" it for doubting in the first place, if that makes sense. One of my favorite parts of the song is how the opening line is "I know you're not a liar" and later in that same verse he says, "Strike me down I am calling your lighting," but with the pattern he's singing it sounds like he says. "Strike me (pause) down I am calling your lie (pause) ning."
if you didnt hear it before the lyrics were saying (down), quietly in the background tyler is saying "i need your strength" usually what people say to God :)

Friend please ! It’s underrated and has a super important message

Great song and I believe it’s to God as well, enjoyed your reaction as always
I agree knowing the boys are Christian but he writes it so it could be any higher power.
