One of those songs that you either git or you don't. I git it. We sure do miss our youth. Just came across this song days ago. Wow, much obliged, at 68yrs old. David R.

Who is still listening in 2023 ? I think this song hits home for so many. I never truly appreciated a moment...until it became a memory... I now have so many ..this song opens my flood gate.. every time.
....my Dad drove a GTO as a teenager...but beyond that it captures what all of us do......if we live long enough that is...long enough to be smart enough.........it makes me feel young and old all at the same time...and it makes me remember *people that I'll never see again...both living and passed...I have a pack of my brother's cigarettes (Marlboro reds of course) that he had when he passed ... still unopened.............after 10 years that may change..........love you Greg...my brother
Yes , we all had a certain freedom .We were joung enough , not to care for the konsequentes, not to care about a future without all these " cigaretts...... Ronny Dunn ist not only a phantastic singer , he is also and more importent a phylosophic man , who does think over what he is singing about . Thanks for your great music Love to you from Germany
I love this song. It makes me feel 17 again when I had the world by a string, I'm 51 and the string is a lot shorter. I know you youngsters have heard it a million times, but time passes like a blink of an eye. Enjoy being young don't rush being grown.
I wish I still did a lot of things that I don't do anymore....Almost like Dunn reached right into my life and plucked the words for this song....What a great song...
Few artists have made me "feel" their songs. Ronnie Dunn does it consistently. As soon as I heard this song I had to log onto my amazon prime account and buy the MP3. But, I just love this video so much, I watch it constantly. Thanks, Ronnie for touching so many lives with your music!!!
Excellent tune, what country music should still sound like. Ronnie has always had a killer vocal, and should have taken home multiple male vocalist awards. Thank you for always recording great material buddy!
This is one of the best song ever written in all time. Whenever a song hits you and makes tears fall from your eyes, you know that this song is powerful. Thank you Ronnie for singing this, it is one of my favorite country songs of all time.
I have never smoked cigarettes but this song is such a metaphor for the past. Thank you Ronnie Dunn for yet another song that touches my heart and soul...."wherever you are tonight, you were better than I deserved..."
Come on, folks! Although you are free to talk about your quitting habits, the song means so much more. The song title is not literal when you consider the lyrics, which are absolutely stunning and deep. It's about the feelings and mentality of a much older soul looking back into their younger, reckless, dangerous, naive, fun and emotional days. "I wish I still did a lot of things I don't do anymore." - My interpretation: The older we get, the more responsibilities we have. We sacrifice the things we love to do for those responsibilities and in many cases, never return to those things again. Either our responsibilities keep us from them, we forget that we have a life outside of those things or we don't find the enjoyment in them that we once did. "When I didn't know what wasn't good for me, but I knew everything else for sure." - My interpretation: Can we just all think of the stupid stuff we did when we were younger? It was reckless, yes, but it was so much fun. Hindsight is 20/20 and looking back, we can realize that lots of things we did weren't the brightest, but at the same time, they were not mistakes because those moments shaped us. Before we were stuck in our ways, we had an open mind for information, constantly learning new things all the time, and somehow didn't recognize that we were learning because we thought we knew everything. "I guess what I really miss is the freedom then; the way it felt, the innocence." - My interpretation: He's saying, it's not necessarily the smoking that he misses, but the mentality. What we all truly miss is acting the child. When life was about fun and play and we could make mistakes without paying a horrible price. Everything was new and fresh and ready for exploring. The feelings of a first love, a first touch, a first experience, a first broken heart. We take those feelings for granted when we're children because we don't understand what it's like yet to feel a second love, a second touch, a second experience, a second breakup. We encounter our 'firsts' with an innocence that can never happen again. We're not closed off, we're not jaded, we're not biased. So when I read comments about your quitting habits, I feel like the truly beautiful message of this song is being missed. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of appreciation for those with the courage to quit and the determination to quit and stay quit, but I don't know if this is the place to post your achievement. It's not condoning anyone to smoke or anyone to quit because it's not about smoking. It's simply a metaphor concerning a much larger picture.
I fully agree. I quit smoking in June and discovered this song because it's not so much smoking I enjoyed but the mentality and what it signified. Quitting smoking was basically saying goodbye to my young adulthood. It was saying goodbye to my carefree years. It was a milestone in my transition from young adulthood to middle age. I could smoke again but there would be no point. Smoking wouldn't bring back the feeling and the excitement of being 24, in love for the first time, going to concerts, pool parties, bars, staying out all night long, etc. Those days are gone, cigarettes or not.
You said it man. This song is absolutely beautiful with reminiscing about those good old days when muscle car or not you felt invincible and lived life to the fullest without any worries.
This song pretty much sums up my life, at 70 you can really make sense out of these lyrics, to all the younger people, enjoy your youth, you will be 70 before you know it

In my Younger days when i was 22, i am 65 now , i went From Holland for 4 weeks To Canada Calgary, Penticton, Banff national Parc drinking Labatt s Blue & smoking and your Song reflects exactly what i experienced then. I was a big Brooks and Dunn fan in the day, even saw ya'll in Knoxville, TN with Reba years ago, but i have to say this is my favorite song yet, thank you Mr. Dunn.
This song brings me to tears every time. Reminds me of my daddy if there was one thing in life enjoyed it was his cigarettes. But it also took his life...I miss him so much. When daddy was young he would bring home a different muscle car every few months. He loved them..I come to this song every so often it's daddy through and through. Thank you Ronnie this means so much.
Thank you for years and years of great music, Ronnie. I've been a fan since I was a young boy listening to your songs on the country radio stations my mom would play.
