Best B8/8.5 3.0T Exhaust setup?!? Here's my 2015 S4's musical sound

  • Hey everyone!
    There are TONS of 3.0T exhaust configurations out there, so I figured I'd add another video to the mix with my setup since I haven't seen this specific setup before.
    Currently running:
    Gutted Cats
    JHM High Flow Cat Downpipes with Integrated Baffles
    AWE Touring Cat Back
    034 Crackle Tune
    Complete respect to people out there Frankenstein'ing their exhaust with tons of different parts, but I went with a mostly off-the-shelf config and I couldn't be happier. No drone, great note, barely any rasp, and you can still hear that sweet sweet blower whine.
    Will be removing the crackle tune soon and will post more vids of the setup. If you have any questions or comments, drop them below!!!

    Thanks for posting this, sound clips are great.
    Which midpipes do you have on the car? AWE resonated, nonresonated, or stock? Also just seeing you reinforced the welds on the OEM headers.
    Did you run any emissions testing with this setup?

    • @dom_says
      @dom_says  Год назад +1

      So it was basically just the gutted cats to the JHM catted/baffled downpipes - then directly bolted to the AWE touring stuff out back. I think there may have been some sort of bracket that JHM has that helps the catted downpipes mate to your specific cat back setup. However it's been a while so I can't remember - but if you email JHM they'd make sure it mates up ok to your cat back system.
      Emissions would be bad news in any state with them.

  • @aaronarchist

    Gutted cats are key. Test pipes give a god-awful rasp. Mine is gutted cats to cat back Polo exhaust. It's a little too loud and droney for my liking.

    • @dom_says
      @dom_says  Год назад

      Yea 100% agreed! There's something about just opening up the flow of the OEM cats that gives significantly less rasp than the aftermarket test pipe kits.
      I think the catted JHM downpipes are what really help tame that drone as well.

    Wait, so you left the stock cats there but simply gutted them, AND you added the high flow cat downpipe from JHM? (is that the one with the x-pipe?)
    What is the difference between that and replacing the stock cats with test pipes instead. I'm super curious!

    • @dom_says
      @dom_says  Год назад +2

      Heyo, so ya - gutted and reinforced the welds on the stock cats & added the baffled high flow cat downpipes.
      Test pipes for whatever reason are raspier than gutted cats. I wanted to avoid rasp and drone - and was able to do it (albeit pretty expensive) with this setup. I also wanted to avoid the smell of running Catless, and the baffled downpipes + resonated AWE (touring) just give it a solid sound. Hope this helps!

    How much is maintenance and insurance typically on these bad boys? I’m looking for 2014-2017 s4 but not sure if I should because maintenance and issues down the road. I know others that have had no issues at all.

    • @dom_says
      @dom_says  Год назад +1

      Kinda hard to give any strong estimates on insurance since it’s so variable - but maintenance isn’t unbearable.
      Be aware of the standard 70-90k ish “issues” that can mostly be resolved in the same service: water pump, PCV, supercharger intercoolers, thermostat. Also the cats can go bad even on stock tube before 100k miles. Also, be aware of the DSG gearbox and keep it up to date with service. Motor mounts usually are bad by 50k miles. Most of the above are just standard on Audis and supercharged performance engines - and DSG is just a crap shoot sometimes.
      Overall if you are just prepared for the known issues and choose a 6MT or have a solid DSG unit - it’s an extremely fun and potent platform!!
