    Amazing album. Listened to it every day going back and forth from school for two years 98-99. It grew on me everyday. I can't explain why but when I listen to it now it brings tears to my eyes in a good melancholic nostalgic kind of way.

      @@Terraceviewmaybe we can just rejoice in that two of their most tender, moody, serious, heart-wrenching songs were composed around the same period and ended up on the same record.
      Paper Trains is another.

    The Proximity Effect is by far their best album to me. It still sounds great today, they perfectly balanced all their strengths on this one. Afterwards they got "too light and breezy" for my tastes, still some good stuff here and there but not what they captured with this album.

    I can't ever say how many times I listened to this album since the moment I bough it. This and 'high/low' just perfect

  • @BootsORiley
    @BootsORiley 6 месяцев назад +1

    I was a pre teen when Hi/Low came out. It was the first album that I ever bought with my own money. I was in high school when this record dropped and I felt it deeply, as we tend to do in our teenage years. It remained a staple throughout my 20s.
    I’m 40 now in 2024 and it’d been a long while since I threw this on. It feels like a little hidden gem or something, I can’t explain it. It was pretty much a soundtrack when I got my first car.
    Anyone else who grew up listening to this album must surely understand what I’m trying to convey here. This album expresses those feelings so much better than I could say. Just the first 2 seconds of Slow Down can immediately transport me back to an intense crossroad in my late teenage life when I still had no idea what I was going to do, but The Proximity Effect was one of the albums that helped me cope with my extremely intense feelings while time slowly began sorting things out.
    I can’t believe how well Troublemaker has aged. It sums up the way that I felt when life was so extremely intense and it seemed like I was hanging on by just a thread?

    I'm having unremedial ( I think I may have invented that word... but I really like it) nostalgia momentarily!!! THANK YOU. JUST THANK YOU!!! You have printed an amazing pattern... not physical, but an amazing psychological pattern between MANY amazing (selective) friends. You've been a staple that has kept old friends (married & shit) still connected. Haha. OK. I listened to the "let Go" album every day--for an embarrassing amount of years....BUT i was the first "bitch" of our 4-person group. (also the only musician --so I betrayed friends...on accident) .. I got married... but I was the first to blow the candle they all blew--eventually. Still totally in LOVE with this.

      Am not saying their other albums lack songwriting talent ,but their high/low signature sound almost vanished completely.

    • @arlissmichaels
      @arlissmichaels 4 года назад

      This was a great move away from High/Low so can see the angst from the record company, like listening to two different bands almost. This is a solid album, but a follow up grungy album was the way to go after the debut Album ie Popular etc, $$$ wise & Elecktra new that.

    • @tdsims1963
      @tdsims1963 3 года назад

      Think of the scene around that time. Everyone was still hoping to discover the next Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Goo Goo Dolls/Foo Fighters.
      "Popular" had that sarcastically angry, pissed-off, mad-at-the-world feel that had ushered Nirvana and grunge into the nineties. That song came out about the time Kurt decided he didn't want to be on the planet anymore (what a crazy period that was! It seemed like EVERYONE we loved was od'ing on something or another).
      But anyway, every record label wants what they think SELLS. I LOVE this album but honestly, it doesn't sound like anything Kurt, Dave, Eddie, Billie Joe, or Billy C. would put out.
      That's why Elektra wasn't happy with them.

    Un album phare qui marque toute une période de ma vie (mes 20 ans.....) et une nouvelle époque musicale, dommage qu'il n'est était que très peu diffusé en radio, et qu'il n'est pas du coup la notoriété qu'il mérite. Une perle de rock à l'anglaise faite par des américains, que dire de plus à part qu'il est à découvrir d'urgence pour tous les amateurs de bonne musique!!!
