Very excited to see you work on one of these! They are far and away my favorite style, the wood grain and silver cannot be beat. I just picked up a KV-1397R myself and would love to see how you clean yours up and replace the caps. Thanks for all of your videos, super informative!
Lovely set! Had a PVM-14N1E shipped to me, also from eBay, with the exact same problem. The plastic back had been pushed in and both the neck board and main board were cracked. Luckily the fix was just as easy as here. Some bodge wires and it was up and running again!
Amazing contrast and deep black level. I think these old trinitrons have better image quality than "modern" FD ones, something about its glass coating is magic... enjoy it!!
I have a virtually identical UK model with SCART socket - KV-1442UB made in 1986. Mine is mint and still in the original factory cardboard box, I think it was barely ever used. It has a metallic dark grey case instead of the faux wood veneer, but is otherwise nearly identical. These mid to late 80’s Trinitrons were some of the best consumer sets ever made in my opinion, back when every Trinitron was still manufactured in Japan
👍👍👍 Great video! And great tv-set! It resembles to me our first West tv-set we had in my family (sure Sony Trinitron!). Btw, have you though about buying old parts somewhere on Internet? Many people disassemble old electronics devices and sell parts... Sure the older device, the more challenging is to buy sth...
Hey everyone I hate to hijack the comments section like this but I was hoping some kind CRT enthusiasts might be able to help! I have a console connected to the component input of my TV and everything runs fine for about the first 15 minutes and after that when too much of the color white comes on screen I get a flickering and rolling image. Is it possibly a voltage drop somewhere ? Is there any setting in the service menu which may help?
I got a Philips magnavox TP3684 c102 . There are some faded white vertical line which aren’t super noticeable but what do you think the problem might be. I don’t know much about the inner workings and common issues of CRTs
Hi mr retrotech,¿The best and safety way to clean of dust a tv chassis,?powerfull VAC using blower port or suctioning port VS air compressor with oil and water separator?,thanks for your time, channel and passion.
I have a 2004 jvc av27d305 I want to recap it.. is there a kit I can buy from you and do it myself I'm pretty good at soldering it's just to get the right ones for it. All at once
Dangerous Steve? Wow. I never would've thought about hat. Welp, there only one way to find out my. I'll get the snacks to see you in action bro. 8^) Anthony..
While I've been enjoying the time off so I can be a degenerate and watch my Vtuber streams, I miss seeing the Bunker, and it'll be neat to see Zez in actual civilization!
This is why i dont purchase crt tvs or monitors on ebay. People just dont understand how fragile these are, and do not pack them well. I have made many bridge repairs to damaged boards from shipping issues. You are very lucky that the crt was not necked, and lost its vacuum. Looks as if the tv was dropped on its back while in shipping. Probably done deliberately as well. Delivery drivers dont care, and toss heavy packages around. Great repair job though.
The neck board has high voltage flowing through it. One mistake on that board could cause a fire. You could shock yourself quite easily on the neck board of this CRT also. The second repair is also a high voltage point.

who dies first a traitor or his child?
trick question
Do you ever think about learning board design so you could spin up a new PCB for situations like this?
👍 That's what I was also thinking about when watching this video!
Yeah, that sounds like a great idea for the follow up restoration project. Look for more on that.
You wouldn't need to design a new board . You can get PCBs printed but it's expensive.
It is so important to have likeminded people preserving these relics from our relatively recent past. Keep up the great work Steve.
I've had the KV-1370-R for years but wow, that wood grain on the 96-R is striking! Great repair job. Enjoy it.

Hope you and your family feel better soon! I have been missing the live streams; can't wait til the next one
The exact Sony I use on my workbench every single day. Thank you for sharing information on the unit.
Such a beautiful set, glad you got it working.

I'm impressed that the CRT neck hadn't snapped. Having taken a hit like that I would expect half the CRT to be rattling around inside the other half.

Another great video Steve!!!
Thanks dude!
Very nice to see. I have a KV-1370R that needs geometry correction but I'm afraid to work on it, lol
Nice fix and nice set.
Love the design of this little set! Great work on repairing those boards to get it working again!
With that type of damage, I'm surprised the CRT didn't get destroyed.

Awesome dark woodgrain look😮

Very nice. I have a KV1370R with some goofy geometry and i need to service it 😂

Hi love your channel, I recently found a Sony Profeel Kx1901 it needs the flyback, do you know where can I get one? Thanks

You can fill those cracks on the PCB’s with some epoxy and it should be good to go. These old Sony’s really were built to last

Get a new Neck board printed at PCBWay
I don't understand the dangerous part of the title. I seen nothing dangerous really

This is most certainly NOT a Profeel...
Technically, you are correct.
@@RetroTechUSA There is no technicality about it. It literally has nothing to do with Profeel.
