When you are working that sheet metal on the English wheel it seems like you need to protect your hands. Seems so easy to slice your hands on the edges.
Ian, I really enjoy your channel and the back-and-forth narration with Jamie. Your voice is very soothing and calming much like the watching the painter Bob Ross. I'll keep watching you create on UTUBE even through the demise of the Motortrend channel! Thank you for sharing your gifts!
This has been an excellent journey on this build . Don’t know what happens to the other garages who fade away but I do hope your projects keep coming . You are so down to earth and have an amazing talent . Thanks from Canada
Love this content! Seeing the challenges of duplicating one side to the other is something we rarely ever saw on the TV show!…. Thanks for letting us see your “process” 😊
I just love how simple you make this stuff look. Its tick tick tick i can do that, then its i didnt think of that or that. It takes a master of his craft to make it look as simple as you do
Ian, the string lines are good. I’ve used them for years, but when I was doing construction, I ended up buying a carpenter or construction laser, which has a spinning, horizontal and vertical laser. You could sit it on of a tripod in the middle of the shop and turn on the top laser and put a horizontal line all the way around your shop or the side, laser and have a line vertical from Florida ceiling. Mine is even visible without turning out lights if nothing else there are a lot of fun. I discovered my floor at the time was 3 inches off from one side of 100 foot building to the other.
Hey Ian, Jamie hello!!! , nother gr8 tute love it. I for one love your teachings WARTS and ALL!! Brings the whole journey into play. Yeh sometimes it doesn't work ist time round. Cheers, give me more. that beast is gonna shine when it's done!
I love this build too! I started following because of the VeeDubz you create, I think if you get a seamstress tape ruler that'll make life a lil easier. Because you can measure accurately due to the contour it grabs along the panels, I like to use it for doing automotive graphics. Helps get everything symmetrical.. Thanks for the videos guys, yall rock!
Hey guys love your content keep up the great work can't wait to see the finished Cadi... PS. Would love to see Ian show how he dresses a welded Pannell completely😊 I can't seem to get It right..
Mr ian good job doing all kinds of mods, your talent in medal magic shows your skills. I THINK you need knee pads, walking and flexibility are very important in your line of work. Good stuff Jamie both of you be safe.
Jamie , Ian, and coffee. A great morning! I've grown to like Jamie and Ian with my coffee as much as milk with it. Ask Ian: Is Beverly Shears related to Billy Shears?
I'm not good with symmetry, I can't even spell it., my eye started to twitch, there must be 42 different angles there. I'm confident Ian will work it out. Love your work you two.
I love your yutorube channel. I am 72 and my musical tastes are more modern. Thank both of you for many, many hours of blood, sweat, and tears. Long time viewer
Greetings from South Carolina...goodmorning. I just want to make an observation. Ian your vision is Otta this world. But the real attraction is your common sense approach to each problem solving. It's very relatable to me & your ability of fabrication with mostly basic tools. This is a EVERY man kind of vib. Which is inspiring to ALL. Nice!👍✌️
@@fullcustomIan anytime Ian love your show id like to ask I want to do a unique valance for my pathfinder was wondering if I brought it to you how much you charge to do it I'm in Arizona...
Ian’s patience is phenomenal and has a way of keeping His stress levels under control and never lose control of his ego! wow a real Standup man’s man .👍👍👍👍
Good Morning to you both. Just wanted to let you know that I renewed my youtube just to subscribe to your channel. I've been a big fan for awhile. keep it coming.
Love the new shop space! Much brighter too! Here's what I'd do, were I in your shoes... I'd paint a full grid on the floor with a very clearly marked centerline (maybe in a different color). Then dial your car in over the grid so that the centerlines on the floor and the car both line up, thereby giving you complete reference points wherever you look. Just a glance from one side to the other tells you if you've got things proportioned. What's more, is when you had the trailer wire stretched from the nose to the rear of the car, you should have drawn it directly onto the car giving you reference points to measure from for side to side accuracy. I'd have done that from the onset of this entire project. (I'd do it to all of them when customizing on the fly to this extent.) When you are measuring the existing fender's gap from that centerline, then I'd make hash marks all the way down the opposite side, giving you marks to easily follow to line the new fender up to. Makes all this alignment stuff so much easier. Great episode! Keep 'em coming! 😎👍
Just an idea Ian? Have you watched bellos Kratos? The same metal work you are doing mike does on bellows. You are both so talented. I myself ha e watched alot and used applications with hubby working g on our merc. Thanks for all your dedication to the channel and thanks Jamie for all what you call silly questions..some of us don't have all the shop k owledge but hey.. we will get there ❤❤
Ian, you can get additional action from your English Wheel by adding a rubber band made from an innertube to the top wheel. You'd be surprised at the additional action you get from a thin layer of rubber...
As an pro collision teck our jobs are so different either way it's very complicated u put people's lives in our repair and modification. Modification. You are an amazing artist and I like watching your process. You do what I dreamt about since a young age. Much respect. That said, this is not a critique but, as my instructor I wanted to pass the test on knowing where the dis symmetry was. Is it the fender meeting the rear roll pan intersection needed to move an inch out from the center on driver side? I would say what screwed you up was the distraction on the other side of the camera. Your usual shop companion doesn't usually converse so much. Anyway, very cool project man.
Ian just want to say hi to you all and keep up the good work. I like watching you do your thing with cars and trucks and the 3 wheeler. God bless and have a blessed day

There is a famous Cobra story relevant to this situation. After the Soviet Union fell there were lots of high tech factories that shut down because there was no money for more military equipment like jets. So the computers. Scanners, C&C machines were mothballed. Meanwhile, in America, some car enthusiast wanted a brand new Cobra but hand hammering a body was really expensive. Somehow he found out about state of the art metal fabrication plants sitting idle and before you can say “dos vidanyo” a deal was cut. A real Cobra was procured, stuffed in a box and sent overseas to the aerospace factory. A week or two passed and then a message showed up in America. It said: “Which one do you want?” Confused a conference call took place. The fabricators explained that they had laser scanned the Cobra only to find that the two halves, right and left, were quite different in EVERY aspect including the rocker panel edges, one of which was 3/4” closer to the ground than the other. A command decision was made and a whole run of shiny new Cobra bodies were soon on the way to America.
@ oh my goodness. I apologize to you personally for causing you to get all excited and worked up. I wish I had the article to share with you so that that date could be more accurately provided to you. Regardless the article stated that was how the symmetrical variations were discovered.
@ a quick internet search reveals the following. The Kirkham company commissioned the Polish Cobra replica bodies to be made starting in 1994. The high tech factory had been making Soviet MIG’s but orders stopped in 1991, shuttering the factory. The MIG factory took delivery of several of the first commercially available laser scanners also in 1991.
I have the same welder as you. But I have never done body work with mine. Now I'm building some squarebodys and need to do some bodywork. What do you run your volts and wire speed at and what size wire are you using. Thanx
This may sound stupid but I think that caddy would look cool with a boatail where it comes up behind the drive and passenger as headrests. Ur mind is rubbing off on me. However u do it I know its gonna be amazing.
It appears to me...its a bit off in symmetry. If you took the circular trunk piece and went top to bottom and and measured where the center is then drew a line side to side...and at that point measure from the outside circle to the fender...it appears wider on the passenger side by about an inch.
with all those compound angle changes and elevation changes, would it b smart to use sum spray foam on the finished side (with Sylfaen or something to avoid sticking on surface, of course) then once foam dry, remove and take full measurements from the underneath of it? i know it seems like alot, but symmetry is the pure goal.

how do you make it symmetrical? Get it as close as you can and remember they can only look at one side at a time.
