you are 100% correct! the XA does have have the compensation wheel. I just tried the XA for a few hours and hated the focusing patch so much that I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the rest of the features (like the aperture selection). my bad. I'll stick this comment so I stand corrected. thanks for pointing this out, man! :)
This is one of the best street photography videos I have seen so far. I am not only talking about your photos, but also the whole presentation and espescially the fantastic choice of music. Around two minutes in I had to pause to 'hit that subscribe button'. Awesome work!
You are a true story teller Eduardo! You have an amazing ability to tell someone's story in a single frame that is personal, individual and delicately captured, you are a far more skilled photographer than you ever seem to admit ;)
Hi Eduardo Nice video. If I am not mistaken the XA3 has DX code capabilities when using DX film. In this case changing the ASA switch will make no difference. I think at least one other viewer has pointed out that the XA also has a 1.5 stops compensation lever, so I won't mention that David
ive enjoyed this video so much, not only cuz im looking to get this camera but also because your photos are amazing and the way to take street photography with such confidence and no fear is amazing. my social anxiety could never allow me to do so! inspired me to get on of these!
Finally...some street photos made with taste..where u feel some motion, like somethings going on..story...etc. So many street photos i get to see (from youtubers mostly) feel more like a quality/sharpness tech test. Zero story. Barely any subjects. What im trying to say is..good job, man. U got a good feel and good eye. Keep sharing these. Just my 2cent of improvement, if i may....- change the music if you can... makes me very nervous & impatient as a viewer :)
Differences between XA2 and XA3 are DX coding, backlight compensation, 1600 maximum ISO, and a redesigned light trap in the door. A neat thing with both models is the distance setting reverts to the middle when you close the camera, so grab shots have a better chance of being in focus. To manually set ISO on the XA3 you need to cover the DX panel on the film cassette, or DX will override your chosen film speed. All compact P&S cameras are a compromise, but the XA3 is the least compromised, most practical solutions for the greatest variety of likely uses.
I swear that there is not one image that this guy produces that I would not be proud of if I took it myself. I know "street photography" is a popular genre, but he has a natural talent (I would say) beyond measure.
Hey Eduardo, just wanted to congratulate you on yet another great episode. Keep up the good work, you are creating really entertaining and quite useful content :) Love from Berlin
I love your photos, I am sometimes too scared to go up so close to somebody, and miss some great shots. I have to work on my fear of being punched in the face :P
One of my favorite videos of yours yet! It was so funny seeing people's reactions to your shooting. I have an XA myself, but I can definitely see how the click-stop focusing of the XA2/3 would be faster in certain situations.
Chau!
you're so inspiring, eduardo! I just started seriously persuing this hobby about half a year ago. you show me that no fancy, expensive gear is needed to get some lovely shots done. these cameras you use here have some serious charme :) I'll try to get my hands on this or something similar!
6:02 The original XA (with 35mm f/2,8 lens) also has the 1.5 stops backlight compensation (like the XA3 and XA4, while the XA1 and XA2 lack that feature) - but also the original XA is the only real rangefinder and likely the best pick of the series..
Awesome work as always. I really liked this because it seemed like you took bolder daring pictures. Letting your subjects know you are taking a picture of them. Also sweet j-crew shirt. I have the same one. LOL. Just wondering did u notice the heart protruding out of the box in the shirt? Keep up the good work
I poderes that myself the last year, and got a Fuji that helped me go back into my street work. But then I got a job and needed to use muy FullFrame DSLR... and man, that bokeh you won't get on a crop sensor. So, I'll guess it will stay in my bag for portrait and event work for now on.
I’ve had my xa3 for over a year now and never use it cause I’m a camera hoarder with tons of toys lol. But this has inspired me to pull it out of the treasure chest and put some use to it.
Totally hooked on your videos! Truly fantastic street photography and great pocketable choice of cameras (the reason I stumbled across the channel). Keep up the amazing work :)
In my opinion it is not possible to change the ISO/ASA with any version after the original Olympus XA because all of them will read the DX code on the film itself and ignore the setting. Maybe you can manually set the ISO when you tape all DX code squares.
fabulous video once again Eduardo, the photos are brilliant. BTW, the XA does have the exposure comp switch. On the XA2, the switch is a battery check / self timer ✌🏼
If You look for compact automatów camera with af and backlight compensation try out Nikon L35AF it is a first Nikon compact with af and work really great with it's 35 mm 2.8 lens. It has a compensation changer on left side of its lens.
2 more cool features if You will hold the popup flash it will not fire and camera should choose right exposition and it is rather working well and it have a focusing scale in viewfinder so You may determine on what point camera is focused
I think you can wiggle the ASA on the xa2 for backlight compensation but on the xa3 you can only use the +1.5 lever as the DX coding reading overrides the front setting
The XA has a zone focus scale on it if you don't like the rangefinder patch, so I don't really get the preference for the other models - plus the selectable aperture size and exposure compensation switch make it the the most flexible of bunch in very substantial ways. Is there something I'm missing?
I just didn't enjoy using the XA. the focusing patch was so distracting to me... if I scale focused it, the patch (which is right in the middle of the frame) wouldn't be 100% focused. since I shoot with rangefinders most of the time, shooting with a patch not 100% focused just made me feel uncomfortable. that might not bother other people who are not so fixated in this stuff, but it made my experience with the camera not very pleasant. of course, I don't have "the truth" in anything, these are my experiences that I feel might be helpful!
Hello, Eduardo! Thank you for great videos! The original XA has an easy to use +1.5 exposure compensation switch at the bottom. At least mine got it. Keep it up! 👍🏻
Great review!, if you had to choose either the original Olympus XA or the XA3 which one would you keep and why? (I have the chance of buying one of these two models and would value your advice and experience with shooting them). Thanks!
Now I'm sorry I got the XA instead of the 2 or 3. I agree that camera is really hard to focus, both seeing the patch and dealing with the rapid ramp to infinity. Love carrying it around though
Bro you make Agfa Vista look amazing! Do you do any post editing on your scans in Lightroom or just leave as is after developing? Great content as always!
hey. love your videos. would be great to see you testing the Canonet QL17 GIII. I shoot with this camera for a while now and for me its the perfekt street shooter.
oh, there was a reflection of the sun on the building in the background, so I covered the reflection from my eyes with my hand, to see how strong the light difference was with and without the reflection, in order to know if I should use the backlight compensation or not.
I saw the photos samples in the video and thought that the XA3 took really bad quality photos. But it was stupid RUclips setting the quality to 480p... A lot of people stan the XA over any of its series but is it really that much better?
I am still surprised that you did not like the XA because it ist probably my favourit film camera and i think for a camara that size the rangefinder works very well. However not everyone can like the same camera. Nice Videos!!!
Great vid man. The XA does have the compensation switch too. The XA2 does not. Hope you manage to make it to the XA4. Inspiring as ever.
you are 100% correct! the XA does have have the compensation wheel. It appeared to me that that people were mostly unamused by having their photo taken :)
This is one of the best street photography videos I have seen so far. I am not only talking about your photos, but also the whole presentation and espescially the fantastic choice of music. Around two minutes in I had to pause to 'hit that subscribe button'. Awesome work!
I always love to watch another video of yours Ed! Your photography is always inspiring. Making characters out of the strangers on the street
You are a true story teller Eduardo! You have an amazing ability to tell someone's story in a single frame that is personal, individual and delicately captured, you are a far more skilled photographer than you ever seem to admit ;)

David
What i've learned from you Ed if to move my body more. I love your now classic 'frame then squat' move - gives a different perspective
So happy to see that you followed my suggestion from the XA2 video :) Also, 4:37 is a killer shot!
ive enjoyed this video so much, not only cuz im looking to get this camera but also because your photos are amazing and the way to take street photography with such confidence and no fear is amazing. my social anxiety could never allow me to do so! inspired me to get on of these!

I know I'm two years late, but I agree with everything you just said.
You just summed up r/StreetPhotography.
Differences between XA2 and XA3 are DX coding, backlight compensation, 1600 maximum ISO, and a redesigned light trap in the door.

The way he walks up on people is so brave and hilarious… I don’t think I could do it 😂😂😂
This might be one of my favorite episodes yet. So many great shots. Thanks for the content as usual :)
Really loved the pictures in that episode!
I swear that there is not one image that this guy produces that I would not be proud of if I took it myself. I know "street photography" is a popular genre, but he has a natural talent (I would say) beyond measure.
I really think your street photos are getting better and better each episode! Thanks for you effort in creating these videos, they're really inspiring
Bro, I just died on the expression of the woman's face (second Picture). You're such an inspiration, keep it up.
Hey Eduardo, just wanted to congratulate you on yet another great episode. Keep up the good work, you are creating really entertaining and quite useful content :) Love from Berlin
These are some of your best photos in my opinion.
I love your photos, I am sometimes too scared to go up so close to somebody, and miss some great shots. I have to work on my fear of being punched in the face :P
Girl at 1:37 was really pretty. These are great shots. Always an amazing job. I've always liked Agfa colours.
One of my favorite videos of yours yet! It was so funny seeing people's reactions to your shooting. I have an XA myself, but I can definitely see how the click-stop focusing of the XA2/3 would be faster in certain situations.

Some cracking shots as always.
you're so inspiring, eduardo! I just started seriously persuing this hobby about half a year ago. you show me that no fancy, expensive gear is needed to get some lovely shots done. these cameras you use here have some serious charme :) I'll try to get my hands on this or something similar!
Again a lovely movie! Thanks for your inspiration!
These photos are freaking awesome man!
Thanks for the wonderful review Eduardo!
superb shots. as always!
Love the sound of that shutter! And love Santiago! I was there for work a decade ago. I hope I can visit in the future.
6:02 The original XA (with 35mm f/2,8 lens) also has the 1.5 stops backlight compensation (like the XA3 and XA4, while the XA1 and XA2 lack that feature) - but also the original XA is the only real rangefinder and likely the best pick of the series..
Wow, the pictures are amazing!
These photos are super sweet and came out super sharp with the vista!
Everytime you do these videos, I get a rush of motivation and inspiration to go out and shoot.
1:08 is the best picture I've ever seen of yours - Well done Eduardo
Awesome work as always. I really liked this because it seemed like you took bolder daring pictures. Letting your subjects know you are taking a picture of them. Also sweet j-crew shirt. I have the same one. LOL. Just wondering did u notice the heart protruding out of the box in the shirt? Keep up the good work
1:09 I literally laughed out loud!!!! Hahah such a great expression!
These little Olympus cameras do such a good job. I question why I still pack a SLR around.
Always enjoy your videos. Great work.
Great episode! Nice to see a Polish photographer's book behind you. Greetings from Poland and thanks for inspiration! ;D
Excellent video. Your photos are very inspiring!
Another great series, Eduardo. It looks like the EC worked great on the shot of the girl.
4:38 I really, really like this one. Exquisite framing.
beautiful shots
It would be cool if you tried the XA4 which has a 28 mm lens and also a macro option that the rest don't have! It's becoming quite expensive though
What a great eye you have man. Inspirational stuff man always.
On the XA2, the switch is a battery check / self timer ✌🏼
it'll be great if you do olympus half frame
You're great, your pictures too!
Some amazing shots man, keep it up
Great film or super sharp lens or both. One of your best vids buddy! Cheers
Your pictures turned out so good, Ed! Seems like a fun and simple camera. I like it.
My man! Yes, the XA series are quite fun little cameras. :)
Great video as always.
The photo at 4:07 is just fantastic!
You do move like a ninja when you take pictures, impressive.
Great review.
The Canon AV-1 also has a convenient button for +3/2 stops backlight exposure compensation.
If You look for compact automatów camera with af and backlight compensation try out Nikon L35AF it is a first Nikon compact with af and work really great with it's 35 mm 2.8 lens. It has a compensation changer on left side of its lens.
Marcin Kowalik very true! I own two of them and they are both great reliable cameras. The 48mm filter thread is also super helpful.
I'm not familiar with this camera, but I found two models for sale: L35AF1 and L35AF2. Do both have the backlight compensation?
EduardoPavezGoye Yes they are almost identical but version one is to ISO 400 or 500 and v2 is to ISO 1000
Marcin Kowalik just picked up this camera and I didn't realize it had that. Thanks!
2 more cool features if You will hold the popup flash it will not fire and camera should choose right exposition and it is rather working well and it have a focusing scale in viewfinder so You may determine on what point camera is focused
Gracias Eduardo! Great video, hopefully one day you can review the olympus stylus epic.
I think you can wiggle the ASA on the xa2 for backlight compensation but on the xa3 you can only use the +1.5 lever as the DX coding reading overrides the front setting
I have xa2. Great little camera. And yours ninja style street photography is epic :) I wish I dare to have that style.
i love this video!! the best street photog video i've seen
i love this video and the pictures
5:47 - Stanisław Markowski (from Poland). Nice album!
great shots
Photos are amazing!!!
The XA has a zone focus scale on it if you don't like the rangefinder patch, so I don't really get the preference for the other models - plus the selectable aperture size and exposure compensation switch make it the the most flexible of bunch in very substantial ways. Ah, gotcha - It hasn't bothered me, but I can see how that might be distracting. Great videos, thanks for clarifying!
Nice video! Also... that woman at 1:35 was very pretty!
yes, a real beauty
Do u need to wait for the 2nd click after pressing the button in capturing photos?
love your style, such a ninja!
Fotazas, hermano. Se te nota la experiencia. Saludos desde Colombia.
Thanks!
XA3 all the way. I didn't like the focusing patch from the XA.
Now I'm sorry I got the XA instead of the 2 or 3. I agree that camera is really hard to focus, both seeing the patch and dealing with the rapid ramp to infinity. Love carrying it around though
Did you still have to mind the ISO or the film you're using was already DX CODED and you dont have to mind the ISO anymore? Thank you for the answer.
Love your " stealth " style of shooting....take a picture then move away fast 😃
Great shot by the cameraman at 2.30! :)
I like your photos. How do you scan your negatives?
Nice shots this time!
Great photos dude. I carry one all the time. Lovely little camera.
You're doing an awesome job
Great photos Eduardo but the XA has the same switch for backlight compensation
thats actually a beatiful episode! i like the eos m video quality aswell. how do you handled it? do you grade a lot?
nice shots!
Bro you make Agfa Vista look amazing! Do you do any post editing on your scans in Lightroom or just leave as is after developing? Great content as always!
Yeah I'd like to know that too
I want to know about the Olympian 2000
what video camera are you using to record your recorridos?
4:38 brilliant
hey. love your videos. would be great to see you testing the Canonet QL17 GIII. I shoot with this camera for a while now and for me its the perfekt street shooter.
this kinda makes me rethink the xa2 I sold a year back
What do you do with your hand at 5:22?
oh, there was a reflection of the sun on the building in the background, so I covered the reflection from my eyes with my hand, to see how strong the light difference was with and without the reflection, in order to know if I should use the backlight compensation or not.
You always seem in a rush when you took photos? Is it because you don't want to get questions or something else?
I saw the photos samples in the video and thought that the XA3 took really bad quality photos. But it was stupid RUclips setting the quality to 480p... A lot of people stan the XA over any of its series but is it really that much better?
Nope

Yo Ed, what do you think about the olympus stylus epic (mju ii)?
