Just ended a month living in London and loved it. As someone seeing things for the first time, I think I honed in on the things I don't have in my own big city in the US. Love seeing a native try to look at London with eyes like I had.
Very nice video, and timely too. I'll be there in two weeks. Can't wait. It'll be the first big trip since the pandemic and London has always been at the top of my list of cities to do street/urban shoots. Hope the weather holds up.
Hi Joe Long time viewer, first time commenting! Thank you for the videos, definitely inspiring me to pick my camera (X100F) up again. Was in the city (London) a couple of weeks ago for the first time in two years! Loved just wandering and looking up (that’s important!). Was showing my wife this video as she wanted to know what was in the Sky Garden. We were both wondering where you were after that (5:00 - 10:41 of the video), it looks like a nice quiet tranquil place. Keep them coming, they’re much appreciated. Andy
Tourist in your hometown - splendid! I admit I do NOT know enough aspects of my home metropolis. So sometimes I take a new bus line which I haven't taken before or not in a long time (not underground - I need to see the surface and people and views) and let it take me to areas which I normally wouldn't visit. Some pleasant surprises there, especially in the outskirts.
Great video, Joe! I want to come back to London so bad!!! 😭 you’re so right though- I find myself taking for granted the incredible landscape and nature surrounding me here in Northwestern Ontario. But when I stop to really look, or “reframe as a tourist”, it comes alive! Thanks for sharing!
Always great to see another photo vlog! Sad that Japan didn’t work out for you both but London is still so beautiful, always keen to see your images from there 📸
I was born in Stratford back in the 70s, which has since been transformed since the London Olympics. London has changed so much in the last 20 years starting with the Docklands and Canary Wharf.
Absolutely! I first came to London in 1999 and have so many photos of the skyline. At that point, Canary Wharf was the only significant area of height and the new Gherkin was the first to break past St. Paul’s height for central. Hoping to revisit those photos in a new vlog soon!
Portland, OR has great food, great art, great music, and great opportunities for street photography for a smaller West Coast city. And being from the prairies originally, have approached what we call The Core as a tourist as it keeps curiosity fresh.
Phew !...about time mate, I was seriously starting to get withdrawal symptoms !, nice to see Ellie looking more comfortable in front of camera too, keep up the fantastic work guys (Y)
Haha, keeping you on the edge! Had a big project in the works this last month that has been eating up all my time. Hopefully on the backend of it soon though to get back to shooting more!
Great video! Always inspiring. I am planning on visiting London very soon so the more videos about it to give me ideas of what to do there the better! Thanks Joe 🍻
Cheers! Glad you're getting some inspiration on places to visit - I'm desperate to be able to travel somewhere soon as well. Not 100% sure where just yet though...
First time at the Sky Garden for me too! It's a great all-around view across London; just gotta be quick with booking slots as it can get booked up quick!
Nice content. Have you walked the streets and alleys of Shoreditch? We are from America and have made many trips to London. We always go back to Shoreditch and Camden. Personally, I would enjoy your perspective on those areas since you are in London. The shard at night is quite a treat. One small treasure, late afternoon when the light is crashing in is St Dunstan’s in the East, a bombed out church. Is that where you are in the video? Ok, my travel tips for now. Regards…Wayne
It´s always nice to feel like a tourist in your own country. We do the same here all the time to get away from daily stress .. and we always discover new places. Next time in London I have to go up there to the Sky Garden, too :-)
Some security guards up there can get really antsy about holding the camera up without a strap 😔 For the rest of the day though, it’s still useful to easily have it round my neck
@@joeallam That makes sense. Thank you for letting me know :) - The strap is the first thing I removed. But I really need to get one of these Backpack Shoulder Mounts to hang it there :)
Nice work, great to view a fresh approach to seeing and doing rather than the tech that other vloggers are clinging to as that has gotten old fast. The Tate Modern has a nice view from the top (I’ve taken nice shots through the windows which have black outline imagery on them, making for good arty shots. Not sure about the eating experience as I like to keep moving to find new places to shoot! Lots of other tall building places in London as you say, plenty to explore. All the best from the sticks. P
Hi Joe, Great video as always. I love your view of the city. Makes me wanne go there immediatly. That food at the end looks so fantastic. I have a question about the JPEG-only series. Awesome videos and really inpiring. Been following your channel for a while. Since watching this series, I've trying recipes on my X-H1. Never done that before. :) Are you using your recipes on your X-H1 or just on the X-T4? Would be cool, to see your recipes for the X-H1 too. Keep up these vlogs, they are really great and inspiring.
Thanks for watching and glad you've enjoyed the JPEG only series! I've applied a few recipes to the X-H1, but to be honest I take the X-T4 out and about over the X-H1 these days. I've had the same recipes on the X100F though, which is the same sensor and has the same configuration options as the X-H1. The main difference to the X-T4 is less granular control e.g. +1 increments rather than +0.5 increments and the lack of Classic Negative film simulation. You can definitely achieve similar results between the cameras though for sure!
Great Video Joe, Fantastic approach to looking at your own city, the point about food is a good one, putting your self in a travellers shoes it a great idea, I like the images at 03:30 , 03:36 & 03:50, I could see those on a travel agency web site The images at 04:07 is brilliant as is 04:25, The Picture of 05:28 Tower Bridge rocks! I like the Canon R5 Video! Great work!
I should do this in my home city of Manchester. Like you said, when you've lived somewhere for so long (or all your life) you don't appreciate it in the same way.
For sure! It might even be interesting to browse some tourism guides and see what other people are recommending. Chances are, there'll be a few things you might not have done, yourself! Always heard good things about Manchester though; need to get there someday.
Just catching up as a new subscriber. Interesting video in which later on you did a catch up on what's happening and the mention of the R5 overheating. Please tell me where you were. It's driving me crazy. Thanks.
I have hardly taken any photos since March 2020 ... oh how I miss travel! Instead I have spent lots of time in Microsoft's latest Flight Simulator, often starting at London City Airport and exploring this amazing city from the (virtual) air.
Always great to see another photo vlog! Sad that Japan didn’t work out for you both but London is still so beautiful, always keen to see your images from there 📸
This is one of my favs, i comeback here once in a while.
I've always struggled to shoot where I grew up, forcing a change in perspective might just do the trick, thanks for the upload, all the best.

An inspo video much needed during these lockdowns 👏
Glad you enjoyed it! They're equally as beneficial for myself during these times as well!
Perspective is everything, and it’s the key to being a traveller in your own city too. Love it! 🙌🏼
Definitely - metaphorically _and_ physically!
Missing the London summer now ☀️ Great channel!

Reframing perspectives is so refreshing in every aspect of life, I swear!

Love watching you two. Haven’t gone into London for a long time, need to make an effort I feel.

Cheers! Always wanting to produce more vlogs like this, and especially enjoy it when the sun's shining like it was on this particular day.
Good vibes video as always!

We are visiting at the weekend cannot wait with the x100v in hand
Enjoy! Hopefully the sun breaks through for you!
Hi Joe, great video, thanks! Where were you in the second half of video?! Cheers!
Hello mate, great to see this video, still have not been to the Sky Garden, always enjoy your work, all the best to you both.

Definitely! I'm always interested in hearing what visitors do when they come to London as there's often things I've not personally done myself!
I loved the london from the vinegar of your Video l like it
I'm surprised you are still using a camera strap. Especially seeing how much it get's in your way when taking shots, like around 4:23

Glad you enjoyed it! ✌️
Brilliant shots! What gear were you using with your Fuji?
I was using the 16-80mmF4 lens and occasionally the Moment VND filter
Great video, hope to see your Japan content again soon. by the way, do you mind telling me which tripod do you use for vlog with you R5?
I am waiting your video everyday. Love.
Can I use lens skirt, from rubber and touching a glass?

Joe what lens did you use when doing photography with the Fuji XT4
This was with the 16-80mmF4

info your gear :3 i see you used XT4
This is so important to do. Sometimes forcing ourselves to be a tourist can open our eyes.
Absolutely! It's amazing how much routine and comfort has control of us.

Another nice vid, well done. And that food at the end… now I’m hungry lol
Haha! You better be real hungry for it - what a heft!
