The *actual* mistakes that caused this was decades of European (& American) attempts at placating Russia every time it rolled tanks into one of its neighbors. Russia invaded Georgia and broke off two territories from it during the 90's and in 2008...barely a peep from the west, Russia pummeled Grozny....not a word from the west, Russia backed the Tiraspol breakaway in Moldova...again not as much as a grumble from the west.
The last 30 years are mired in the west's vain attempt to 'reach' Putin.

Freighters simply cannot match a pipeline, and Europe shut down their nuclear power plants which CREATED their dependence on Russia to fuel their power plants. Other European countries depend on imported electricity from Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which makes those a target for Russia to hold. Europe needs energy independence just as much as the United States does.

Cruise doesn't want Europe to be energy independent, he wants them dependent on U S LNG ( a ridiculous way to fuel industrialised economies compared to simply piping it in from next door, via a pipeline that's already built).
it would be nice if the US allows the rest of the word the same what they want for them self. to make their own decisions. being dependent on US LNG is worst than being dependent on russian gas.
@@0815419 I don't know about worse; more expensive, probably, and not actually possible, certainly (there isn't enough dock capacity for LNG in all of Europe to replace the Russian pipelines; much less enough LNG ships to haul that much!). Re-activating the shut-down European nuclear power-plants (and/or building new nuclear power plants, if there are safety concerns about old plants), is the *only* way Europe can reduce dependence on outside powers.
Frankly, I suspect European citizens were manipulated into shutting down their nuclear plants *just to increase vulnerability.*

belgians, french, swedish and birttish seems ok with it, others like germans, dutch , spanish and italians always had a hate-relationship with it.
fukushima was the tipping point in some countries.
for europe, this seems quite stupid to think national about nuclear power. if one goes up in belgium, then the fallout will cover germany, france and the netherland.
