Thank you for your donation to Rob Cosman’s Purple Heart Project. I am Kenneth Stewart of the Rob Cosman Bench Brigade from Kansas. I have built three of his benches and two went to very deserving people. The third one I kept for myself. Keep up the good work.
I haven’t got through the ads yet but I’m going to say NO don’t do it! Ok nevermind that bench is pretty sweet. But the benchcrafted vises 😭. And that is awesome about the Purple Heart project donation. I was thinking of that before you even said it. Good for you! I’ll be buying the plans.
Marc l'm a long time fan of yours and Rob Cosman's. I also lead the Rob Cosman PHP Bench Brigade. We build/deliver Cosman Wokbenches to the PHP Scholarship recipients. On behalf of the 150+ Bench Brigade volunteers in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and Israel I want thank you for your support for the PHP. In addition to the wonderful monetary donation, you've also raised awareness of the plight of our combat wounded vets and the therapeutic benefit that handtool working can be for them. You're awesome my friend...keep after it!
Marc, what a wonderful idea to help Cosman's Purple Heart Project with the proceeds from the auction of your bench. As a member of Cosman's PHP Bench Brigade and a subscriber to your channel I can say that this gift will multiply thru the many beneficiaries. Thanks again for thinking of the needs of our heroes and fellow woodworkers. All the best, Charlie
Overall it’s a decent table. If you’re not using it for big heavy projects. Its gets unstable when using my jigsaw and handsaw. Table starts to shake and lifts off the ground. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Also the folding mechanic works great ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh when setting up, but I can’t get the table to fold down. It gets stuck 3/4ths on the way down.
Oh man, my eyes were totally freaking out! At 3:02, the angle of the bottom-right edge of your vice lines up exactly with the top edge of the walnut cabinetry, so for a second it looked like the cabinet somehow stuck out in front of the bench, except the vice handle went in front of it so that looked like some Escher-esque oddity!
Cosman's Purple Heart Project is an inspired effort at helping combat-wounded veterans. Bless you for donating you bench to the cause - and spreading awareness of the PHP to the woodworking world!
Thanks for thinking of the Purple heart Project. I bet the proceeds from this bench will fund 3 or 4 Wounded Warriors to the course. Love your channel.
Ok. First of all, I’ve learned a LOT from your channel and enjoy watching even those things I’ll never tackle. And here’s where I say Woo-Hoo! Procrastination wins again! I recently found out I didn’t really need to build that torsion box outfeed table that I didn’t build. Now, I find out the Way Fancy Roubo bench I didn’t build wasn’t as necessary as I thought at the time. You have, again, made my morning an even better start to my day. One more it of Good News… At 75, I might not be around long enough to find out I could’ve just kept using the admittedly shaky bench I bought many, many years ago. Been thinking of rebuilding a solid base for it because the top is fairly decent. Maybe put some decent vices on it. But after dismantling and cleaning 40 years of grime off the original vices, they work better than I ever remember. I’ll keep thinking about it, though. I’ve said before you add a tremendous value to even us truly novice woodworkers. Even if all I do is sit and think through your woodworking projects (sometimes that all I feel like), you’ve added a lot of value to my days. Please keep being you. Thank you.
Ah the Timeless Art of Seduction. Next you're going to need a print of The Kramer. "He is a loathsome, offensive brute....yet I can't look away." In all seriousness Marc, glad to hear you're working with Rob. Its a great charity. I think you need to sneak your way into Canada and do a video or two with Rob.
It's awesome that you're supporting Rob's Purple Heart project! Such a worthy cause. Really looking forward to the new bench build. I just might have to buy the guild plans -- even though I have the original Roubo set that I've never built! lol
I literally just use a wedge as a vise stop. I made mine out of Katalox - they look pretty and Katalox is ultra strong, one of the toughest, stiffest, hardest, strongest woods. Each of those words has a different meaning mechanically, and Katalox is in the top 10 in each category.
That’s awesome Marc. I’m a huge fan of both you and Rob Cosman. What he’s doing is awesome and inspiring. Looking forward to seeing videos of your new bench in action.
Marc, you could not have picked a better charity. What Rob does for the veteran community is so amazing. If anyone watches his lives, it’s easy to see how much passion he has in the Purple Heart Project. I’ve seen (on more than occasion) Rob getting choked up when talking about a specific veteran or when somebody has made a donation. He is such an amazing person and it warms my heart that you will be donating the proceeds to the Project. Damn I love this community! Way to go Marc. Way to go! ❤️
You can put the inlaid outlet on the side of the leg or even on the backside of the leg and avoid it getting in the way. It will still be accessible yet now won't interfere with the front face of the leg.
I'm really looking forward to this guild project! I've been using a 2x4 and plywood bench for a couple of years and have been wanting a 'real' woodworkers workbench for some time - but was always hesitant because of the cost and complexity. This 'spagbo' bench seems like the perfect solution.
Such a great cause for the old bench! I think this new bench would also look great with one of Andy's vices on it. That way you get a nice middle ground between inexpensive hardware and 1k on benchcrafted hardware.
Kudos to you Marc for donating your bench to Rob Cosmans Wounded Warrior Project. I built my Roubo with your plans. I have the same issues that you mentioned. My biggest concern is the oversize and losing stuff down the center of the bench. Keep up the great work.
Marc- I just wanted to send you a quick note and say thanks for your support to our soldiers! I have been a volunteer for the Purple Heart Project as part of the Bench Brigade for about a year and a half and have met some of the most amazing people of my life. After attending Rob's Purple Heart Project, we commit to getting a workbench sent to the vets' homes so they can continue to hone their woodworking skills. It's an AMAZING cause that is helping to benefit AMAZING people!
Super excited for this one! I bought the Roubo project a few years back and enjoyed watching, but never started due to all the reasons mentioned (cost, size, weight, intimidation factor, features I didn’t need). The one fits what I had in my mind so so much better, and fits my work, shop and life so much better. Thank you!! Can’t wait for it to start!
Such a common sense approach to a workbench build. Solid gap filler, quality yet affordable vises, 3/4" bored dog holes, knockdown construction all make perfect sense but do not detract from functionality. Function is the role of a bench, after all. This should be the "gold standard" by which benches are measured.
Wow! That was Au SOME! The functionality of that bench is beyond the wood working universe. You are a Wood Wisper. All those options in the split bench is endless. Thanks for sharing. PS. thanks for helping out those Vets. They deserve it!
I’m a retired veteran of 25 years and I use woodworking as therapy as well. Well not for the last year or so because the price of wood was through the roof. Just getting back into it.
Hi Marc, I love the new simplified and affordable workbench and will take the class if the time works out. Of course, the bench you are auctioning off is positively gorgeous. I almost finished with a really poor substitute, but it'll do until my skills improve. I'm soooo happy that the proceeds will go to Rob Cosman's Purple Heart Project! His devotion to this cause is pure of heart and your willingness to support him and our Veterans, is equally so ... thanks, your awesome!
Nicely done Marc! My Roubo is only a few months old but I have used the sliding deadman a lot already! 😁. Nice idea for the "t-slots" in the gap, please let us know if you use that often. If you do, I might add them to mine. I agree on the round bench dogs - I also went that route. Much more versatile. Keep up the good work!
Marc and Nicole! We go WAY back!!! I've admired you and your woodworking skills for as long as I can remember and only found Rob's online presence a couple of years ago. His "Cosman bench" was the first I built and I sent him pics of us working on it, I became a "Bench Brigade" member shortly thereafter. I totally enjoy watching you and Nicole in your live feeds, when I can find the time to attend, but regularly watch them after the fact. Thanks for donating something that obviously holds a very cherished place in your heart to such a worthy cause. As Rob would say, "you just get it!". ML&R!
@3:03 what a neat optical illusion, the angle of the vice perfectly lines up with the angle of the drawers on the bottom and makes it look like the drawers are sticking way out
Kudos for incorporating so many thoughtful features into this new bench design; I’m sold. Also very glad that you chose to support the Purple Heart Project with proceeds from the Roubo auction. The programme has had a positive impact on many combat wounded veterans.
Wow! That was AuSOME! The functionality of that bench is beyond the wood working universe. You are a Wood Wisper. All those options in the split bench is endless. Thanks for sharing. PS. thanks for helping out those Vets. They deserve it!
Greetings Mr. Wood Whisperer, Thank you for supporting the Purple Heart Project! A good bench is the most important tool in the workshop! Your bench looks great! Thanks again! - Brandon (Rob Cosman's PHP Bench Brigade Volunteer)
I agree that Rob Cosman’s Purple Heart Project is a very worthy beneficiary for your bench auction proceeds. I’m a volunteer member of the PHP Bench Brigade and thank you for your support of the project or prOject.
Beautiful bench! Serious optical illusion at 3:02... the angled vise jaw lines up with the cabinet top perfectly and it took me a minute to figure out how the vise was going behind the cabinet from there!
Very nice! I like the upgrades. Very practical and provides enough functionality for hand tools and power tools. Nice to see you teaming up with Rob Cosman - PHP is a great cause.
Warmed the cockles of my heart to hear you say that this is going to Rob Cosman's PHP - and then I heard him excited about it on his show last Saturday night! :-) Kudos, man. I've watched you for much longer than I have Rob. I enjoy you both, very much. And I respect Cosmans' effort with the Purple Heart Project. Absolutely incredible what they are doing for these wounded vets. Thanks for dong this!
Beautiful and well thought out bench! As a member of the Bench Brigade and a father of two former Marines, I'd like to say thank you for the auction and dedication to Rob Cosman's Purple Heart project. Well Done Sir...Ooorah! Respectfully, Dean Kirby & Ruston Community Men's Shed.
One new feature I would not bet on is the metal bolts and screws holding the long rails, it tends to get loose and you have to tight and adjust from time to tima til you can't anymore and your workbench became a hula hoop ^^ I would rather use tusk tenons
Definitely going to incorporate some of the changes you made for this bench and add to my Rubio bench plans. Oh and Marc you are sexier than George lol 😂
What a beauty. The biggest appeal is the ability to break it down as my shop is in my basement. It would be groovy to build this with the improvements but still rock the rich kid hardware after saving up - would pulling off this pairing be possible/practical?

Who is George? Thx for the giveaway :-D
I'm here! Oh, I'm 3 months late. D'oh!
THANKS! For supporting Veterans.
Thanks for being one of the longest running quality woodworking channels on RUclips, and one of the best. Been watching for many years.

Pumped to see this one come to life!
That's just an all around sweet bench!! Love it!
Awesome new bench. And Rob Cosman's Purple Heart is a great cause and great charity to support.
I really like your adaptation to the center gap, to allow the use of all sorts of accessories!
Awesome bench and amazing to support Rob Cosman's Purple Heart Project!
I haven’t got through the ads yet but I’m going to say NO don’t do it!

9:21 Thank you, I was worried this video was going to end and miss that brilliant opportunity.
Thanks for thinking of the Purple heart Project. I bet the proceeds from this bench will fund 3 or 4 Wounded Warriors to the course. Love your channel.
I hope so! We're at $3k so far but you never know with an auction. :)
Rob's Project is a truly wonderful thing. Thank you for choosing that for that. I will order the plans.

Great new bench. Great use for the old bench. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
Thanks for generosity and for supporting Rob and our veterans. Also want to mention that you are looking healthy and fit. Keep up the good work.
I love Rob’s Purple Heart Project… a great cause for a great bench!!
Great idea Marc
It's awesome that you're supporting Rob's Purple Heart project! Such a worthy cause. Really looking forward to the new bench build. I just might have to buy the guild plans -- even though I have the original Roubo set that I've never built! lol

The outlet lol....I saw it and thought it was a bottle opener which is a fantastic idea!!! I am always opening my IBC Rootbeer near MY bench hahahaha
Looking forward to the build videos!
You are out of paper towels 😜 love the new design. 👍🏼🤠👍🏼
Omg, I have been watching you for 10 years. Wow 😮
Can't wait for the new guild project to come live.

Good luck with the auction. Charles
Looks great Mark. As a member of Rob’s Bench Brigade, I salute and Thank You.

cool beans great to have a smaller bench would love to see a version of it with the expensive vises
Well, that would be the original Roubo with a shorter top. 😊
Such a common sense approach to a workbench build. Solid gap filler, quality yet affordable vises, 3/4" bored dog holes, knockdown construction all make perfect sense but do not detract from functionality. Function is the role of a bench, after all.

For task light, take a look at the "lamp bushing" from lee valley -- fits those round 3/4" holes. Perfect for a swing-arm flood lamp.
Marc, As a member of Rob's Bench Brigade I just want to thank you for your support for what we believe is a very worthwhile cause. Thanks.
Great cause to support!
I’m a retired veteran of 25 years and I use woodworking as therapy as well. Well not for the last year or so because the price of wood was through the roof. Just getting back into it.
Great to see the old table is being auctioned off for a great cause. As a veteran myself I appreciate it.
Looking forwards to the video, seems like a no-brainer!

Woah, I noticed something looked weird there too but I didn’t pick up on why. Very cool
Kudos for incorporating so many thoughtful features into this new bench design; I’m sold. Also very glad that you chose to support the Purple Heart Project with proceeds from the Roubo auction. The programme has had a positive impact on many combat wounded veterans.
I love your workshop nice video dude
This is really cool. Those castors, too, when you slid them out, I was like: "Oh! That's how so much hardware should work!"
You didn’t watch until the end then! Haha
Great job on the bench, I like the power outlet on the leg. Maybe place the outlet on the left side of the post instead of the front face.
Thanks for sharing that!
thank you for sharing very detailed and easy to understand
This is an incredible video, and plan, and just, yeah.. Brilliant work you guys/gals.. this is beautiful!
P.s. nobody called you the hardware whisperer, hahaha! Love the ending🤘✌🙌
Looking forward to this vid!
Good looking bench, interesting approach to creating a "hybrid" work bench. Good on you for supporting the Purple Heart Project!
You could mount the plug on the side of the leg if you use your vise in a way that it would get in the way.
I agree that Rob Cosman’s Purple Heart Project is a very worthy beneficiary for your bench auction proceeds. I’m a volunteer member of the PHP Bench Brigade and thank you for your support of the project or prOject.
Great job, Mark! Thank you!
Can't wait!
Put the outlet on face 90* from front, facing end of bench. Now you can use both sides of vice. Cord can still fish out on inside face.
No need for me. But that’s a good idea for anyone anticipating the need.
“Gasp…. 😮”
🤣Nice video brother.
Beautiful bench! Serious optical illusion at 3:02... the angled vise jaw lines up with the cabinet top perfectly and it took me a minute to figure out how the vise was going behind the cabinet from there!
Great workbench man! 🙂👍🏼
Very Nice wish I had a bigger shop for one
That bench is going to break auction records lol.
Kudos, man. I've watched you for much longer than I have Rob. I enjoy you both, very much. And I respect Cosmans' effort with the Purple Heart Project. Absolutely incredible what they are doing for these wounded vets. Thanks for dong this!
You need to offer a signed photo of you the bench and George at ~8:05 with the bench. LOL
That is a great idea. Rob’s Purple Heart program is awesome.
Thanks - great video as always and utterly loaded with tips along the way
I love the idea that you are teaming up with Rob Cosman's PHP. As a veteran I love his commitment to combat wounded veterans. Way to go Marc.
Absolutely loving your new influx of videos of late, keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
So excited to build this. Also a side note the cameo of mark, matt and Katz-Moses in matt Estlea “river” table was priceless
Well done. I think it's time for me to join the Guild.
What a beauty. The biggest appeal is the ability to break it down as my shop is in my basement. It would be groovy to build this with the improvements but still rock the rich kid hardware after saving up - would pulling off this pairing be possible/practical?
Great job Mark, as part of Rob's "bench Brigade" and a regular Purple Heart supporter we all thank you for your support.
Cant wait to watch the new series. I really like the look of the scale of the new bench!!
