The Art of Convincing Search Engines for Re-Rankings (Ranking State Changing) - 40x Growth

  • The Ranking State explains the ranking potential of a web source during a period. A positive ranking state helps a website to have higher initial rankings and re-rankings, while a negative ranking state involves a consistent decline in rankings, impressions, clicks, query count, and crawl stats. Negative ranking states happen if a web source is stale, outdated, has scaled content without added value, and is costly to crawl or understand. Ranking State helps search engines to optimize the ranking of web documents with fewer resources. Rather than comparing 4 million web documents to each other, comparing 10.000 web sources and giving them a specific ranking prioritization makes it easier to construct a satisfying search engine result page.

Ranking prioritization is easily observed in Google Discover and Google News. A web source with a high level of relevance to a topic is chosen for a specific named entity. Google Discover is a query-less search experience with a content recommendation system based on topicality. Thus, the ranking state improvements usually come together with the Google Discover traffic increase or ranking appearance.
The Ranking State helps search engines decrease the resources spent on evaluating websites. Rather than using expensive algorithms for every website's everyday version, a search engine can determine a website every 2 to 3 months after certain thresholds are exceeded and re-rank it by changing its state. A web source consistently increases or decreases its SERP estate according to its ranking state.
It means that "consistent ranking increase or decrease" is caused by ranking state change rather than your latest optimizations or website changes. Thus, many SEO projects leave doing the correct optimizations because of not seeing the ranking state properly.
Just because a website increases its rankings, it doesn't mean it is caused by your latest improvements. It can be caused by the ranking state that you got four months ago. Your tomorrow rankings and ranking state can be assigned based on the changes that you made during the last two months.
Thus, the Ranking State can cause sudden traffic spikes or drops permanently or temporarily during quality or broad core algorithm updates. But it doesn't mean the website will always stay on the specific situation. Increasing PageRank, topical coverage, semantic relevance, and completeness by decreasing the ranking signal consolidation would fundamentally change the ranking state.

Thanks. Quick question. When you say "Decrease the Total Web Page Number on your Website", are you mainly referring to pages like dynamic urls created by ecom systems? What about newer sites (1-2 years old) that have a lot of content that doesnt yet rank because it's part of the topical map and targeting competitive keywords with the goal of boosting impressions to the site? New sites with a low DR will struggle to even hit bottom of page 1 for competitive SERPs to start getting impressions. Thanks.

You are amazing! I just want to ask two questions from the video...
    1. Redirects: When there is a deleted page should we redirect to another related page or just serve it as 404 which redirects to home page to make fewer 301 urls?
    2. Tags - is it good to have product or post tags pages or we should de-index them? I don't understand why google prioritizes my product tag pages and not pillar content or product category pages and what can be the best way to direct them for valuable pages :)
Thanks a lot for this much information ❤

Excellent video. I have two quick questions. First, you said in the video that if we have an article that gets no traffic, or is not even indexed after waiting a long time, that we should delete it and write a newer, better article.
Just curious…would updating that article (instead of writing a new one) not be good enough when it comes to achieving a positive ranking signal and eventually doing well with that article? And secondly, you said that if we see Google listing a bunch of long URLs in Search Console of pages that don’t even exist on our site…that we should redirect them. Does it matter whether we redirect them to other, better pages or can we also redirect them simply to the homepage?
Lastly….isn’t there a concern that, hypothetically if you delete pages, you might also therefore be deleting a potentially good back link that Google may favor? Or, is that less of a concern compared to limiting bloat on your site and make it easier for Google to crawl?
    Thanks!

Hello! Please, can you asnwer a question? In order to make easier to google to crawl my sute, I should delete several articles that do not contribute to my topical authority. Problem is than I cannot delete them because they are linked in my emails funnel and social networks. If instead of deleting them I will de-index them, will I get results?

Great! Another newbie here, friend! How many posts should be there to rank, say 30000 views in a month? Nathan Gotch says, website with just a page can be ranked if there are backlinks! Interview with Matt Diggity you mentioned that you had just 100 post! True? Would love to see your response!

If the domain is an exact match domain, you can rank it with only domain name relevance to query + links. If the domain term is generic, ranking with only links will be more challenging. The question "can" depends on different factors. It is possible, but not wise, to rely on a single method. Most of these statements are tied to commercial interests. If you promote links/you sell links. In our situation, we tell what can or can't rank according to the realistic dynamics of SEO.
