I loved seeing Evan dance around to the Monarchs song, trying to get a couple right. That was exactly me first (and every) time too. I think it's also important to remember these episodes were repeated pretty regularly, and once on RUclips, they're so catchy you watch them again and again, so actually by viewing number six, you're getting quite a lot of history info in a memorable way. And as kids, when you have a question like, who is Dick Turpin, you ask people and google and find out. They were a great educational resource for starting conversations with kids. I can totally see how they were used productively in classrooms.
Number 1: Charles II bought back partying because Puritans (led by Oliver Cromwell) banned a lot of celebrations etc. 2 Dick Turpin is a famous highwayman (someone who robbed carriages at gunpoint) he is best known from having the story Black Bess based on him (although that's not historically accurate) 3 You have to learn the Monarch song! 4 The Cousins one is actually from a special episode not a regular episode so is often not counted so interested you included that! Do a part 2!
It resurfaced after George Floyd's death? I had no clue. But what annoys me about the Rosa Parks song and tbh Rosa Parks in general is everyone acts like she was the first black woman to stay on the bus in the face of white discrimination. She wasn't. Claudette Colvin did the same 9 months ago, at age 15, in the same city, and was jailed. But Claudette got little to no recognition, not nearly as much as Rosa did as she was a lot darker skinned than Rosa and also pregnant so it caused some issues at the time. It would just be nice for Claudette to be recognised, esp by horrible histories
Dick Turpin is basically our Jesse James and Billy the Kid. They're american icons because of what they did in their relatively short time in the old west. Highwaymen were heavily romanticized the same way cowboys and pirates were. One of the biggest celebrity heart throbs of the Georgian era was a criminal that escaped prison and execution over and over again that drew thousands to see his actual execution (mostly women that wanted to be there in person during one of his daring escapes). Robin Hood is a story that basically glorifies a thief because he gave the money back to the poor after extortionate taxes

Fun fact about Horrible Histories, it won an award for the best comedy show in the UK, not an award for best children's show, best comedy show period. The BBC also put Horrible Histories on a later time slot because adults liked to watch it as well, so they made it so that people working regular hours could make it back home to catch the show.

Evan, the Dick Turpin song was a parody of "stand and deliver" by Adam and the Ants, right down to the eyeliner!
Dick Turpin was the uk’s most infamous highway man. Not “just” a highway man!!!
More like a legend like King Arthur than part of history. I don't think the Americans share our legends unfortunately.

@@evan To be fair that was probably the songs point.
Unfortunately we all get distracted by the eyeliner.
@@gota7738.... It is very distracting
