Very thoughtful and thorough advice! We've found going to the park with toddlers is all about flexibility. On our first trip we pushed everyone too hard which took all the magic out of it. Now we go in knowing no matter how great its going we have a set time to unplug for a sitdown lunch and down time. That way we are out of the park when its super busy, we get time off our feet, rehydrate and for our kiddos its a time to nap or to run off wiggles. So much time is in a line where they can't move very much or are being held followed by a ride or show where they cant move even if its enjoyable. The short 4 hour break is a game changer! That way when we go back in we have all had time to recharge.
Yes! It is a game changer to take some time in the middle of the day to just decompress and recharge! I think a lot of people fear that they won't be getting their money's worth if they take a break and then they push their families too hard and it turns into a nightmare really quickly. Losing sight of why you're here in the first place is easy to do, so we all need a reminder every once in a while. Just have fun and relax. It's totally do-able! Even when it might not feel like it.
Things like when your Use Year starts, the number of points you have available on that contract [the more points, the farther out you can stretch that 11 month window & get the dates before other Members] and the demand for that particular resort [i.e. people who book certain times of year for the sole purpose of selling/renting those reservations]. . . . to name a few. I'm trying to keep things super simple here, so forgive me if it seems like I'm WAY in the weeds.
I think it’s partially due to the economy. Disney buys back contracts when people are requesting them. I’ve personally had this happen, from a buyers perspective. We wanted to add on to our BLT contract, Disney was done selling new contracts at the time, so we needed to wait until someone was selling one. Purchasing DVC direct is expensive, I think people are going the resale route because it seems cheaper to them. For us, being a family of 6, it’s better to buy direct for the annual pass prices alone.
We had the opportunity to purchase bay lake tower before it finished being built. I am so grateful that we did not do it !!! I am guessing they are waiting on the new property to sell those to the richer visitors. And they just push a side the original property owners. It’s insane truly. I feel for anyone who has them and cannot seem to sell points or in fact sell the contract all together. 😢 if that’s even a thing cause I really don’t know how it goes either. I’m glad I did NOT do this. Hang in there. Good video too.
Great points. You are not off base at all and think they make a ton of sense. I agree with you that the DVC side of the business side has too many plates spinning to also worry about the resale market. If it's half or a third the price of direct it is what it is. Budget-minded folk probably are not their clientele for direct points anyway
I think DVC rental companies are cheapening ownership. I don't think it's fair for members to pay all this money for an exclusive membership and then have to compete for rooms with nonmembers. Ever since rental companies have sprung up, it gets harder and harder for members to book what they want at the 7 month window. If anyone can now use points what is the point of spending so much money to buy in and then continue to pay dues? Disney doesn't care because they just see filled rooms but it makes it hard to justify continued ownership in DVC. It was never meant to be a for profit business. It was meant for families to own a piece of lifelong vacations.
DVC Point Rental Companies. . . . ugh. . . . personally I think they have gotten completely out of hand and that has absolutely had a negative impact on the DVC Members' experience. I've got a lot to say about this, so I'll keep it short for now and we can get more into it some other time, but I don't think Disney is unaware of it or that they don't care. I think they are probably trying to gingerly decide how they are going to manage this very-much-close-to breach of bylaws without risking being in breach of contract themselves. It's a gray area that needs to be addressed and I honestly think they know. I do agree with you though, it makes it hard to justify continuing to be a Member when it's pulling teeth to use the Membership you're paying for. . . . meanwhile there are available rooms for non-members to rent points. Its not a good look.

Just curious what other things are at play that make the 11th month window difficult to book

Thanks for sharing your experience. That's what I was the case! 😀
