The PSP library is in such a nice sweet spot between old and new, with that classic polygonal video game aesthetic, not quite HD, but not quite full on retro.
I've recently got one myself, and I'm shocked we still don't have UMDs (as someone that dismissed them when I saw them alongside DVDs when it first came out). Considering that the shell can protect these discs from getting scratched or dirty when moving them around, even if the PSP had to die, Sony could've maybe invested in a UMD movie only portable player for those that wanted to play movies but didn't want to shell out for a console.
I still take my PSP on flights to listen to music and play some classics. I did buy a Vita again recently, so maybe I'll switch it up. But it's awesome.
Sony said that they saw the PSP as the Walkman of the 21st Century, a pop culture icon to be adored for many years on and safe to say, Sony hit the nail on the head spot on with that assumption. With a vibrant homebrew community, plenty of titles to play, being able to load your own music and videos on the go, a selection of hit movies to watch on UMD, and a plethora of fun accessories, Sony put in their all with the psp, and it shows in spades, its truly the greatest handheld of the 2000's.
In high school, me and classmates would bring our psp to play tekken or DBZ off only one UMD cartridge which truly blew my mind at the time.. it was a long lost art from the psp era imo..
I still have my PSP 1000 model, but I have been using my PS Vita more, since a lot of PSP games are much easier to play on the Vita, then on the original PSP., because two analog sticks just makes gaming easier. I still think the PSP is still worth it, since the feel of the console still feels nice and a lot of PSP games are still fun to play even to this day. It's also cheaper then a PS Vita, so if people want a handheld console that plays PS2 like games on the go that doesn't cost too much money, then the PSP is the way to go.
The sticks are actually so bad on slim Vita, made me struggle so much on Ratchet and Clank, so I had to sell it 😢 I tried aftermarket sticks too, got 3 different pairs, but that didn’t help much
My elementary classmate had a PSP. Not only we would play games on them (he let me borrow on occassion), but also we would use it for sfx and music for when we joined campus journalism radio broadcasting competitions. We were part of a radio broadcasting team
WPA works too, WPA2 I'm not sure because I haven't used my PSP in so long, but so long as it's 2.4G and at most on WPA (again WPA2 might work but specifically on TKIP/AES) it will connect. I used to connect mine on WPA or WPA2
I remember having one when i was 12 to 14 years old. I think my charger stopped working or something. I have a deep desire to get a new PSP. It was a fun console to have.
I dug my PSP games out over the weekend, have 36 of them. I just bought a PSP 3000 with a charger, memory stick duo and new battery off eBay yesterday for $110. I've been watching some videos on the PSP hyping myself up while I wait for it to arrive and I see Kevin has a second channel and he is reviewing the PSP? I just messed myself! Thank you good sir!
I have an IPS modded PSP 1000 for nostalgia and a PSVita OLED for actually playing on. I absolutely adore PSP. I didn't have an iPod right away as a kid. I used my PSP for everything. Once I found out about custom firmware I was instantly hooked. I have 128 GB in my PSP and less than a gig left. I really like this system.
Man I just hope u know I’ve been watching u from the mlb the show days and ur still maybe the most unironically hilarious person I think I’ve ever watched . Just keep doing what ur doing plus as always appreciate the content . Ur a G
The funniest. Watching him go up 7 runs in a 3 inning game and immediately be horrified that it happened and tell the camera “that’s actually the worst thing that could have happened “ made me howl laughing. He’s so defeatist it’s awesome.
I still use the PSP every once in a while. It plays NES, SNES, SEGA GENESIS, GBA and more very well. It holds a special place in my heart. Love that little handheld. The PS Vita emulation is amazing as well and for far more games.
Two games id recommend checking out are daxter and def jam fight for ny. They were my most played games on psp growing up along with gta vice city stories
I play my modded psps and vitas on the daily. I have a psp street that’s just psp games, a psp 1000 that’s psp ps1 and a few other systems, the vita oled that has a tonne of systems and a vita 2000 which is just ps1 psp and vita games
I got a PSP a few months ago. I remembered watching some RUclips videos on how to connect to the Internet. I ended up using my phone as a hotspot to connect with the PSP. That seemed the easiest way. I only wanted to update the firmware.
If you play a PSP FPS on a Vita (via Adrenaline), you can map the face buttons (aiming) to the second analog stick, which makes that type of game much more playable.
I really miss my psp idk where it is but am gonna still buy one again this year i use to play gta liberty city stories on that long ago ....damm what a game
I jailbroke my PSP back in the day and that thing was an emulation powerhouse for its day! Wow, did that thing get a ton of use! I fully admit that my poor little PSP hasn't been touched in quite a long time, though... the Vita can perfectly emulate the PSP... and truly, some games are even better on the Vita, due to faster load times and that second analog stick for certain titles. I loved my PSP, but the Vita is my current love.
Many of the fps and 3rd person shooters on the system are great games, just kinda held back by the psp's form factor. That said, using an emulator you can remap the controls, and there's several games with mods specifically to improve the 2 joystick experience for emulation.
I have still have my psp and i love it till this day. I've been downloading yt videos and mp3 music for car trips and wherever I'm at. Holding a psp in public is like holding a cat with a leash on it and feeling stupid. Gaming on a psp is goated till this day so yeah it's amazing. If i own a vita one day then I'll take a gander at it
The PSP isn't even the best way to play its own games any longer, let alone anything else. Pretty much the only reason to own one is if you have a UMD movie collection that you can't let go of. Want official hardware then the Vita is going to give a better experience. Quite frankly emulation gives a far superior experience to original hardware these days.
I bought my psp for 60 bucks off Facebook. then I got it moded with a list, of 50 something games I wanted. I have GTA liberty city stories, GTA Vice City stories, and I have Defjam fight for ny the takeover, I got midnight club 3 dub edition, need for speed most wanted, call of duty, rainbow six, I got so many games it’s hard to name them all Fight night, Madden, nfl street, nba ballers , assassins creed, burn out, ssx tricky, crazy taxi, moral KOMBAT, takken, dragon ball z, naurato, blitz the league nba live o9 dead to rights,
Regarding shooters it depends on how much you struggle with controls because there are actually many great ones, at least for what you might expect. Socom series is amazing, with 3 being my favourite shooter on psp (although it's least socom-ish out of the bunch). Syphon Filter games are great, Resistance too. Ghost Recon Predator is worse as a shooter but fun tactical game with amaizng maps. Medal of Honor Heroes 1 is fun but mulitplayer oriented (it has bot matches, and campaign uses bot ai in missions), and Heroes 2 is much better in terms of campaign and AI but it lacks bot offline play. Coded Arms games were decent and so was Ghost in the Shell. CoD is forgetable like they had decent enough tech but forgot to actually design a game around it. Brother in Arms would be really good but they screwed up controls, still playable if you can deal with that. Peace Walker is awesome but the levels are ridiculously small. King Kong is suprisingly good port of the original. Gun is still amazing. There are plenty other shooters too like Total Overdose (or it's spin off), quite a bit lacking but still decently fun Miami Vice and others. So yeah if you can handle controls, which is no problem for me, PSP has really nice lineup of shooters, much higher than what you might expect. And as i said my nr. 1 pick is Socom Fireteam Bravo 3 - it's like way more open Cod MW in third person.
You are gonna need a network running Wireless G and only WEP security if I remember right for the PSP. Also doesn't the Vita play PSP games? I think you might have to use the open seas at this point but I think I remember right that it can.
I just got a switch a couple weeks ago it's my first Nintendo console I mainly game on my PlayStation and Xbox but I'm excited to experience the Nintendo exclusives 😎
I just recently bought a PSP 1000 used but it won't charge and I'm trying to find a solution for it to keep a charge but I don't regret buying the handheld
i think the psp cant connect because it uses depreciated security standards for wifi and most modern routers do not support them You could get an old access point that supports wep and hook it up to your network to get the psp online, but that puts a security risk on your network unless you turn it off when you arent using the psp
If you want to add the most up to date custom firmware to mod your PSP I recommend watching the video by "MCD Network" titled "How To Mod Any PSP Using ARK-4". I used his video and it was simple and easy!
1 got a psp and it has been collecting dust after having 4 vitas and couple of switches that I scalp from e waste collecting and buying pakistanis . I have all consoles nintendo and sony PS alike with the consoles ps2,3,4 wii and switches. Got bored and came back to collecting just to discover got some games that are now pricey in ebay. Initially I was into modding but later decided to go old school and get the physical games as they really look the second best of all playstation games aside from the PS vita of course his younger more appealing brother from the same mother sony. Both psp are ahead of the compitation. Sony did not manage it well. Imagine the switch is earning well despite a decade behind of technology. A vita with modding is better than the switch by leaps and bounds despite being older by a decade. Play vita now and you will look cooler. Smaller and more functionality but is older. Imagine your dad looking cooler than you. It is like vita to switch. If sony remaster the vita concept it will gain more market than it did given they price it well and keep the games both digital and on a card. My modded ps vita plays psp games but the graphics is psp caliber. My chip modded switch v2 can play vita, psp and retro games alike thus was not able to give justice to the original psp. Now I guess is a good time to build serious collection on psp. I was always thinking that plenty games is better but later realized what is the purpose of having too many games when you don’t have time to beat them and so my collector mindset kicks in. Collect them until satisfied and then sell them until satisfied once price goes through the roof.😅

Best way to connect the PSP to internet is via your phone hotspot, and make sure it security is WPA-2. No need to change your router/modem settings.
