    I’m sure this is a question you’ve seen before, but given the many years you’ve spent refining, how many ounces…ballpark…have you recovered/refined? I truly find this fascinating and you do a great job presenting it, particularly in a manner that provides detail and explanation in every video. That’s great for anyone who might randomly come across one of your videos. There’s no presumed understanding, just good consistent explanation of your methods. Very well done.

      @rcgusto2427 it's really hard to say, because (imo) much more than a nonzero amount of gold ends up in the waste liquids, as has been clearly demonstrated many times in past videos, mainly the silver cell filter recover videos but also in others. frankly i don't think stannis testing is 100% accurate because some of the gold seems to "follow" the copper nitrates and silver nitrates for whatever reason (my assumption is there is some sort of novel copper/silver nitrate and gold amalgum in solution thing going on, which the stannis chloride can't detect because it's not just straight up gold in solution)

    • @Tome_Wyrm
      @Tome_Wyrm 2 месяца назад

      @@gfhrtshergheghegewgewgew1730 Stannous chloride is a sensitive test, but small amounts of gold inevitably get carried around, and some tiny amount could pass through the filters as well. That accumulates.
      Heck, just notice how many times he can harvest his silver cells before the filter baskets get slimed up, and how little gold he recovers from a dozen or so filters. He's losing like 0.001% or something so close to 0 that if he wasn't doing this in a continual process, he'd just write off the tenth of a penny worth of gold

    I’ve been watching your videos for at least 5 years now, Mr Sreetips. I’ve also read C M Hoke’s book and signed up on GRF. I’ve internalized most of the basic processes for gold and silver refining and I feel confident that with the correct setup, I would hit the ground running. However, I’m not delusional and it seems like precious metal refining for hobbyists is fraught with obstacles not only on the chemical reactions level. The hunting and purchasing of plated, gold filled and karat scraps at a good price (one that will eliminate loss of profit) appears to be the most tricky part of the operation. Hats off to Mrs Sreetips! I feel as a beginner I would necessarily get burned quite often initially 😂 keep doing what you do Sir. We love tour videos ❤

      My wife made me shut down my shop right in the middle of a project to take her to a yard sale on a Thursday morning. I wasn’t very happy. When I got there the lady said, “you’re my first customer.” My eyes locked on to two GOLD bracelets. Thick chunky ones. I asked what she wanted for them. She said, “ten for the small one, and fifteen for the big one. I know they’re supposed to be pure gold, but I don’t want them, I just need them gone along with all this other stuff.” It was over $1800 in gold, back when it was down around $1400 per ounce. It’s out there. But it won’t just fall in your lap. By the way, I’ve still got those pieces. And now they’re worth around three grand. There’s no way that I would ever dream of converting that gold, that’s rising, into paper for a “profit”. Converting gold into paper is just plain madness. Converting paper into gold, is just plain smart.

    You’ll notice a good amount of rhodium when refining larger batches of Victorian era gold filled. Rhodium was a cheaper metal that was almost considered waste during that era, and was commonly used as plating over the copper prior to the gold being placed over it.
    If you’re lucky based off the material, During the AR process, you’ll notice chrome flakes that won’t go into solution as easily. Some may make it into solution, but is obviously recovered in the stock pot later.
    Save your filter papers for the gold filled separate if you can, other than some potential silver chloride and lead sulphate, it’ll be relatively easy to recover after saving the filters and doing a big incineration day with them to process. 😊

    Found this on the net. Also what would happen if you poured the diluted gold concentrate into diluted SMB?
    EPNS-If someone is trying to sell you a piece of “gold” marked “EPNS,” run away. It stands for “Electroplated Nickel Silver,” which is silverplate. This means the piece is not gold, and it’s worthless.
    EPBM-Again, if someone is trying to sell you “gold” marked “EPBM,” go elsewhere. This stands for “Electroplated Britannia Metal,” which is not gold at all. It is a silver/tin alloy consisting of copper, lead, or zinc.
    GE-Gold Electroplate is a piece consisting of a base metal, often brass, with a certain thickness of gold electrolytically deposited onto the base. The minimum standards require to be considered GE is 7 millionths of an inch and at least 10K gold as the plating.
    HGE-This also refers to Heavy Gold Electroplate, the same as GE above, but it can only make the "heavy" classification if the plating is at least 100 millionths of an inch.
    GF-This means "gold filled" and is like gold plate but the gold is heat- and pressure-bonded to the base metal. It must have a minimum purity of 10K gold and the gold content must be at least 1/20th of the weight of the metal piece.
    375-This means the gold is 37.5% pure, or 9K. In the US, the minimum standard for gold is 10K. Many other countries allow marketing this as gold and it’s been used in both jewelry and dental applications.
    417-This means that the gold is 41.7% pure, or 10K. In the US, jewelers uses this purity because it is very strong. It is great for jewelry for those who work industrious jobs or who need something that will hold up.
    585-This means that the gold is 58.5% pure, or 14K. Good, strong gold but with more gold than 10K.
    750-This means that the gold is 75.0% pure, or 18K. Much more pure than 14K, still has good strength with a wonderful balance in purity.
    916-This means that the gold is 91.6% pure, or 22K. This is probably the softest and most pure gold you would want to have for a piece of jewelry.
    999-This means the gold is 99.9% pure, or 24K. This is the purest that you can buy, and although purity can be up to six nines fine, or 999.999, it’s highly rare to find it so pure. Such fineness in gold was last refined in the 1950s by the Perth Mint in Australia.-

    Hello! I love your channel and I’ve watched several videos more than once. I have a couple of questions.
    1. How does the nitric acid remove the silver and base metals from 14k gold filled material without being inquarted? Doesn’t it have to be 6k? Does it have to be alloyed or is being a thin sheet good enough? Obviously what you’re doing works, I’m just confused.
    2. I know you said that copper isn’t worth refining financially but have you ever considered refining a small amount for a video? I would be interested in seeing that.
    Thank you so much for this channel. I never would have guessed that people refine gold and silver as a hobby or that I would be so fascinated by it.

      I didn’t think people would be that much into it either. After all, GOLD is nothing more than a barbarous relic, antiquated, outdated. But i just at got done reading the Bible cover to cover. Gold and silver (as real wealth) are mentioned over two hundred times. Not one reference to Apple, Amazon, US dollar, or bitcoin. What this means to me is that long after all those are gone and forgotten, gold (and silver) will still be here. And they’ll still be valuable.

I know Mrs. Sreetips is skilled as well as beautiful, but I'm sure there was some investment cost. Given that, was it still worth it to refine it?

    I’ve done several ways of processing. One was putting it in a/p for a month. Then taking my foils set aside. Put a solid copper ingot in the ap until it cements. Combine the foils, and the cement, popcorn and process as karat scrap. Pain I. The butt, but less nitric.
    I tried melting the gold filled and pouring into shot, and process. That worked the best.

    This makes me wonder how testing solutions are designed. I get that they're mixes of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid, but how do they alter the composition to make them able to test different purities of gold? Do they just dilute the mix with water so that it won't react on lower purities? Or is it just by adding or removing a percentage of the nitric acid? Making testing solutions could be a good little side business when you look at their margins, although selling acid might not be worth it because of the risk of litigations.

    Archimedes used density and his own buoyancy law to prove that the King’s crown was NOT pure gold but rather had a cheaper fill metal inside it.
    Weigh the object accurately then determine its volume using a precise volume displacement method.
    This will give you a value for density. If its significantly less than 19.3 kg/m3 then it’s not pure gold.
    This is difficult to do for thin plated gold objects, but certainly an easy way to show that an object is pure gold (or greater than 5% Au at least)

    • @apveening
      @apveening 2 месяца назад

    • @PetraKann
      @PetraKann 2 месяца назад +1

      @@apveening True. Although the element used in the case of densities higher than that of gold would need to be something like Osmium (22.59 kg/m3). There are only 6 elements more dense than gold and Osmium has the highest density.
      (Iridium 22.56, Platinum 21.46, Rhenium 21.02, Neptunium 20.45, Plutonium 19.84)
      All of which are unlikely to be added as a filler with exception of Platinum, which is also a very expensive metal.
      Most likely lighter less dense elements would be used.
