- Ever since @gennidee made his videos about his KALOK KL3100 and KL 343 I wanted to get KALOK drives. Those drive are known to be some of the most unreliable drives ever made, but they sound absolutely amazing!
When I saw the lot with them on eBay I had to get it even if it was really expensive. I took a gamble, but for once it paid off!
This drive has major issues, not only it does not spin up without help, but the top platter is contaminated and has a ring right on the outer edge. It has a lot of bad sectors, and runs much worse when it is cold (a lot more sectors show up as bad when cold)
The drive also only boots after I run HDMotion on it (Yeah, don't ask me why... I try to boot it and it doesn't find the OS, I boot a floppy and DOS does not see the C drive. I run HDMotion and the 1st sector shows as "Sector not found" then it looks normal. I CTRL-ALT-DEL and now it boots...)
Even in its current really bad shape, I'm still really glad that I got this drive and got it to at least do something.
Well, I think you can guess which drive will get its video next... Yeah, one (somewhat) working KALOK was not enough... :-)
