I am not a cricketer. But, I know a lot about statistical theory, about which cricketers know nothing. According to statistics, every cricket match is an experiment. An experiment is only fair and leads to being part of normal distribution when all events have equal probability of occurence. The few variables we can talk about id, pitch surface, size of boundary, friction of ground with ball, temperature. humidity, these are just a few of hundereds of variables that control bowler and batter performance, It is a total nonsense that boundary distance from batter location varies so much from one ground to another. How can a sixer hit in a ahort bunday ground be same as large boundary ground. That is like playing with a loded dice. Same about wicket surface. Unless all wickets are prepared exactly the same way and are maintained to same humidity, how can they be compared.
That is where Sachins greatness comes in. He did not give two hoots about what anyone said about ground, pitch and wicket conditions. He knew that those could be worthless wild estimates. On morning of games he went alone and gaged all statistcal variables himself. He knew that no one knew variables of that day and he had to find out himself. Sure American pitches have exposed one thing. All cricket records mean nothing because pitches are loaded dice
