This is one of those movies like Home Alone that every child (at least in Australia) has watched too many times with their parents. A classic.

Behind the scenes, Mara Wilson's mother was in the hospital with terminal breast cancer. Danny DeVito and his then wife Rhea Perlman brought her to their house to let do her homework and wait until her dad got back from work. DeVito even showed the final cut of the film to her mother in the hospital and dedicated the film to her after she passed away months after the film was released

Man..new movies just cant replicate the feeling these older wholesome movies like matilda, ET, Nanny McPhee and other movies had!!
The feeling is timeless!!

You might know the actress Pam Ferris who played Miss Trunchbull, from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, she played the aunt Marge

As I understand it, the reason Danny DeVito made this movie,
and the reason he narrated the voiceover, was that that Roald Dahl’s Matilda was his real life daughter Lucy Devito’s favorite story as a child and he used to love reading it to her. If that’s true, this movie is sort of a gift from Danny DeVito to his daughter or maybe a gift to himself as getting to tell the story one more tome.
It’s a sweet thought. And funny to think if a good father making a movie playing a bad father because of his love for his daughter

I had abusive and neglectful parents in childhood and this movie was ABSOLUTE LIFE when I was growing up, though I never mastered telekinesis. Loved watching this with you both. I recommend the newer musical version if you have a chance to check it out.

Thank you for your reaction. I read the book as a kid and then watched the movie. It is one of my favorites.
Also, Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman who played Matilda's mean parents were actually super kind and sweet to all the child cast. The girl who played Matilda lost her mother to breast cancer after filming the movie. Danny and Rhea were supportive and loving towards her and let her mom see the movie before it was released in theaters. They even did a cast reunion 20 years later.

Man, Danny Devito’s one of my favorite actors. First saw him in Renaissance Man when I was younger (outside of his work in Hercules 😂) and been a favorite ever since

Matilda has the same powers as Steven King’s Carrie. Matilda could be dangerous. Look at the joy she got when punishing her dad and the evil principal. 😎
