I saw the Ventures here in Winnipeg, Canada about 5 yrs. ago. With Nokie Edwards, 81 yrs old, and Leon Taylor on drums. The first time I saw them was in 1970. Leon did the exact same drum solo on Caravan in 2010 as his dad did in 1970.
I grew up with,this music.. There were two young brothers living in Lowell, Indiana, one was about 14 at the time and the older was maybe 16. The older one played guitar and the little brother player drums. This was about 1969 and these two were some of the best I have ever heard. Now of since. When they played Caravan the house fell down. They were AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWSOME!
Mel Taylor's Caravan with the Drum Solo was the first drum solo I ever heard when I was a kid. I played the Ventures Live in Japan album at least 1000 times! How appropriate this is in Japan.

Only one of the drummers used the same basic 4 piece set with 1 cymbal that Mel Taylor used for years. He was very good also, amazing sound that Mel got from the small kit.

これだけのメンバーが一同に会した時があったんだね。ノーキー、ジェリーそして徳武氏は勿論だけれど加山氏も結構うまいわ。三浦氏のドラムはセンスが良いし植田氏がんばっているね。ベンチャーズバンド率いていた50年程前を思い出す。
charや高中が居なくても本物がいるし豪華だな
