    His mother was battling cancer when Avi wrote this (Sage & Stone) for her. I can't help but cry everytime I hear it. Nothing more beautiful than the love he has for his dear mother. (who is doing fine now thank God) Hey Ya is such a joyful song in this rendition. I am so happy to see the enjoyment on your face during your 'reaction' ... I would so love to see and hear Avi and see his beautiful smiling face again...as happy as he is in this video....

    Hey-Ya was actually a single-only release and was not on the album. Most people don't realize that the album Avi recorded with The Sequoias was actually produced while he was still with Pentatonix. This was the period in late 2016/early 2017 when all the members were taking some time to do their own side projects (Kirstie's solo album, Kevin picking up steam with his solo RUclips videos, and Mitch & Scott doing the Superfruit album). It just so happened that The Sequoias album was coincidentally released right after Avi announced he was leaving PTX. At the time it was recorded, he had no intention of leaving the group and considered The Sequoias to be a one-shot thing. And that's actually what it ended up being as they didn't record anything else together after these sessions. But this DID give us a glimpse of the type of music that Avi was really interested in, and all the things that happened in his personal life and with the group in the months that followed ultimately led to his departure. He actually took an entire year away from the music business before coming back to start his solo career, so he did NOT just jump from Pentatonix to doing solo stuff as some people have inferred.

      Absolutely true

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 3 года назад +4

      There were legal restrictions on his ability to release anything for a year after his departure, so he took advantage of that to travel, hike the mountains and forests, and essentially decompress from a very negative period in his life. As we know, he pours his heart and soul into his songs, taking us all on a journey of self-discovery and emotional healing. In regard to "Sage & Stone", as has already been said, he wrote it for his mother, hence the emotion that pours out both in his voice and in the strings that swirl and dance slowly through the second half. I'm personally hoping that he writes something like a cantata someday - a neoclassical instrumental for orchestra perhaps tinged with a bit of his beloved folk music.

      "Full Moon", as recorded for the EP, is dramatic with orchestration. If you want the full studio effect, go with that version. The acoustic version he did for his RUclips Space LA live acoustic performance is very stripped back, haunting and beautiful. Here's the link to that: ruclips.net/video/0IOXovCH9eE/видео.html

    Written to his mother. "Where we used to go" was the place she would take him as a young boy to hunt for arrowheads and they would see eagles.
    He was still with PTX when he wrote and recorded this. His mother was having a reoccurrence of cancer and he desperately wanted to get time off to go be with her. He is telling her his plans of when he can get there and she is able to go again.
    This is the main reason he left PTX. The pace was too much for him and he was torn to pieces that he could not be with his mother while she was ill.
    He had made millions and could have made millions more, but his sanity and love for his mother took precedence over the money.

      Also he did the artwork for the album cover.
      He is a Bass, but he has a fabulous 5 octave range and you should also listen to his Polyphonic/Overtone singing. He has a great whistle tone when he sings two notes at once.

    I have always been heavily into folk music - basically from the 60s & 70s - and also reggae & jazz. Oh, I have a love affair with jazz! When Ptx did a collab with The Manhatten Transfer I was in Heaven! ButcI digress! I just wanted to say that I was all upset when Avi left Ptx, but when this came out it healed my soul to know that he was into the folk scene! Then Matt came along & I was all happy again!

      He was raised close to the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mohave desert. The video for Aberdeen was shot in those locations. The mountain scenes in Field and Pier were also from that area. If you look at the landscape you see the sage and stone he sings about.
