    Go to 2:00, switch the speed to 0,25x and watch what happens with his ankles and knees. When his skis are aligned with the fall line the skis are already on the edges and feet are engaged. Thanks to this video I dramatically improved my short turn skills. Thanks Patrick and the crew ;)

    Awesome short radius turns, perfect stance/balance, turn start, transition and finish. Thanks for great demo and St. Anton is one of my favourite stops.

    I've just wrote down all the drills, made a scheme of my local piste and marked at witch part it is best to do which drill. Looking forward to my next training session, hope to nail those perfect short turns this season))

    Tried first drill today. It was so hard for me. Had to touch the snow with inner ski tail to keep the balance. Or to lean forward a lot.

    At 0:19 slow your video down to super-slo-mo to witness the nuanced transitions. While the title on the screen says "balance", pay particular attention to the subtleties of the pressure transfer and how the inside ski releases the old turn before gently allowing pressure to go to the new outside ski. When the dynamics change this becomes more important to understand that you just don't jump to the outside ski as many would have you believe. Also, in the short turn demonstations, I'd like to see a little more engagement in the upper part of the turn, a bit earlier than just before the fall line. Many would mis-interpret that demonstration as the skis going from side to side.

    • @JB91710
      @JB91710 4 года назад

      In his skiing demonstrations, he is jumping and heal thrusting. He is not allowing the skis to control the entire turn. He could do the same thing with 2x4s with metal edges on his boots. His weight transfer was way too slow. The SKIS can't start a new turn unless you get off the downhill arch and balance on the uphill arch. The weight transfer has to be thought of as pedaling a bike. You get off one arch and stand on the other. If I understood you correctly, you contradicted yourself in the timing of the weight change. "you just don't jump to the outside ski " "I'd like to see a little more engagement in the upper part of the turn, a bit earlier than just before the fall line. " That sounds like instantly changing the weight which is correct.

    Life is TOO Short to ski hardpack. Five runs on groomed, and I am BORED! Seriously, the obsession with technique is ridiculous. FEEL IT! Best skier is the one having the most fun. Who is adaptable to changing terrain and snow. Guess Im glad there are all those Chairlifts full of people dressed in paramilitary garb trying to attain their goal of executing the perfect turn on something other than powder.....Thats why there will NEVER be a GROOMER magazine.....

  • @JB91710
    @JB91710 4 года назад +1

    Too bad there was no real teaching here. The demonstrations weren't connected to the results which were heal Thrusting not turning. Allowing the ski to make the turn when you position your upper body and change your weight correctly. The hoping was complete useless unless you ski in mush all the time. The sideways knee action was an example of how you adjust the location of the knee in line with the hip ball joint and the arch of your weighted ski but that wasn't taught. All in all, this showed someone doing tricks, fancy skiing and some good videography. What a waste of that videography. Isn't videography a word? Spellcheck doesn't think so. Should be.

      JB91710 you have no clue about skiing. Only in your fantasies you can ski like this. This is an excellent demonstration. If we want to see an old fart side slipping on a bunny hill, we will come and visit your channel.

    • @TheJeffatan
      @TheJeffatan 3 года назад

      Torally agree...she skis well but doesn't mean shecan teach.
      Those are pretty much useless drill. Msybe the stork drill...but even then. I'd have my student doing the transition much higher up the C...these drill make you too big toe stance leg focused..it will destroy your knees.

    • @JB91710
      @JB91710 3 года назад

      @@TheJeffatan A skier's focus at the start of a turn has to be as follows.
      1. Your eyes look for where you want to go which is down the hill.
      2. You plant your pole down the hill as you stop your upper body's travel across the hill. Put it back in the fall line.
      3. Get off your downhill foot and balance on your uphill arch.
      4. Face you chest and kneecaps down the hill.
      5. As you balance on your outside arch you adjust how much your hip is leaning into the turn and the pressure against the tongue of the boot which will bend the tip of your skis more or less. The only lateral movement of the knee is to move your knee back into alignment with the arch of your foot and hip. You monitor that by feeling how much your ski is sliding rather than gripping through the turn.

      @@dj_617 How did I miss the opportunity to blow you out of the water again? Oh, that's right, I blocked notifications to your worthless comments.
      "you have no clue about skiing." If only you were capable of telling me where and how I am wrong.
      "Only in your fantasies you can ski like this." Do you guess much?
      "This is an excellent demonstration." Of what and why? You forgot those important points.
      "If we want to see an old fart side slipping on a bunny hill, we will come and visit your channel." Do you mean you don't want to watch how little you have to move your body in order to allow your skis to make turns for you? Did you bother to READ and Understand what I wrote? What? You weren't "Entertained" enough?
      You could have learned everything you need to ski anywhere and in any conditions by reading my method but instead, you want to watch this guy show you nothing useful at all? You sure are a childish follower dj.
