I agree. The Fender Japan Hybrid II HSS Strat that I bought from Andertons in a sale last Christmas is a stunning guitar - exceptional value at less than a grand! 😎
Ultra II reminds me of a lot of stuff G&L has been doing for decades. Brushed anodized metal pickguards, quartersawn necks, super satin necks, belly and arm cuts on the t-type. Hey at least fender is finally catching up to fender.
I mean I'm for it that Fender is doing better stuff at a good price point, but to call it modern is like whaa? Leo did/pioneered A LOT of what fender or andertons is calling "modern" in the ultra II in the 80s. And more. Like bi-cut necks for one.
@@MajicFreeman For a very slow-to-change company like fender, the ultras are their most "modern" offerings (even if they still neglect to make an ultra tele deluxe). I still say the AV II lineup is their best stuff out there right now though.
Glad I got my ulta tele in plasma burst with binding when they first came out. Most beautiful guitar I’ve seen. Such a dream to play. Not too impressed with these new ultra 2s. Feel like they could have done a better job cosmetically for that premium price.
Okay, surprisingly, the Meteora is my favorite. It just makes the most sense. It has all the high-end features without the noiseless pickups compromise. I sold my Ultra Tele recently. It sounded good and played great, but it never sounded 100% like I wanted.
Agreed. The latest Squier Affinity Teles have a belly cut - I recently traded in my old slab bodied Sqiuer tele for one, and it makes so much difference to the comfort in playing, for me at any rate. Less than a tenth of the price of these too! Love the tele vibe, but hate the slab body.
@@MajicFreeman yeah I'm so picky though and I just can't vibe with their headstock design. So this is a good Tuesday for me! Definitely loving the quarter sawn neck too
@22:39 thanks for making the mocha bursts more collectible. 😃I love the look of my mocha burst Ultra Strat, and to be honest, the Cobra Blue (gone) and Mocha Burst (gone) were my two favorites. Glad I got those when I did! Still got mine, still love 'em!
I love these modern Fenders. My #1 guitar is a 2010 American Deluxe strat with Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups. I didn't love the Noiseless pickups of 2010, but the guitar is so good! The compound radius neck, the 2-point trem, the absolutely stunning paint (Sunset Metallic)! Now I want to try the latest iteration, the Ultra II. I like the addition of the glow in the dark side dots
Cool to see this is what Fender has been teasing over the last little while, all of these sound awesome and I love the look of those Strats and that white/silver Tele…
Lee shouldn't be doing the demos with the Fender guy.. don't get me wrong, I love this channel and I know that it also exists so Andertons can sell instruments and gear, but that's exactly what bothers me a bit in this video. I'm sure the Ultra II-Series is a super cool line of instruments with a lot of nice features. In the end Lee is a business guy and you can see that. There is no neutral view on the guitars, it feels more like an ad than a first look on the guitar. That's my only critique. Besides that I really enjoyed the video and was super entertained. Good work you guys! :)

I just brought home a Charvel Pro-Mod... It has basically the same specs as the Strat (I'd say even better, with Duncan PUs). Made in Mexico. Costs a third.
well i can’t complain, they do offer a left handed strat with the Texas Tea finish which looks amazing 🤘🏼🎸 a little steep at $2000 but id definitely would want one for my collection
Great colors as always! Sinister Red, Noble Blue and Solar flare looks great on Strats with black metal guards. Only problem with Ultra or Ultra II for me is those Ultra Noiseless PUs.😂 I had Ultra strat Cobra blue once, Really loved the guitar but I get rid of whole assembly and put another PU assembly. Sold it at last because I found out I'm a vintage lover.
Have had an am pro strat for 2 months and think the Ultra II sounds great. I'd have to do a side-by-side to really pick out the differences, and even then, I can't imagine that with an EQ pedal, you could get the brightness you want. More than anything, I'd make my decision over the neck shape.
The opening jam is still wonderful - I think it’s the same base loop as like the first Fender accusation’s video you did, and it’s a delight to hear it again, I had forgotten it!
I'm very much a Strat guy, but I can't deny that Meteora sounds badass. And that Texas Tea is one of the best new colours I've seen in a long time. Wasn't planning on buying a new Strat this year, but I think I might have to buy 2 (the SSS and HSS) because they're both so durn sexy!
That push-push on the treble pot is how I rewired my Player Telecaster. Otoh, a treble bleed on a Telecaster is two steps from a banjo: I'm probably morally opposed to all treble bleeds, but especially on a tele. Take a bit of tin off when you go to 9 on volume is part of your general tone control tools.
Man, I still wish they would do a hardtail Meteora. It's such a cool shape, but it needs a hardtail. edit: oh, it is. That's intriguing. That's actually basically my dream spec. The colors aren't my favorite, but I think I may need to check one of those out.
It sounds like a very little thing, but an angled selector switch on a tele is brilliant. Im going to hunt down an after-market one, I never thought of that !
I prefer the way the old S1 switch works on starts my old HSS elite does this: Position one: all three pickups wired in series Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in series Position three: middle and neck pickups wired in series Position four: bridge and neck pickups wired out of phase, with a special tone capacitor Position five: bridge and middle pickups wired in series and out of phase, in parallel with neck pickup A lot of tone. I especially love S-1 position 4 and 5 on that guitar. Its still a beast to this day
I made a Partscaster Tele using an Ultra body which happens to share a lot of features with the new Ultra IIs (e.g. treble bleed circuit, the Control plate with the angled switch) plus some more - like phase reverse. I think I'm fine, too. 😅
I think Fender/Squier have finally got it figured out with each line. Fender is producing the stuff real big, pickier enthusiast want. These all have great features. Then they're really experimenting with what wacky stuff they can try on the Squier side. The Paranormal series is a great example, but even the Sonic series lately has had some really interesting good stuff, moretraditional in some ways but experimental in others like color ways, pickup combos, etc. Both have things I love. I think I'd pick one of these Teles up for sure. While with Squier, I've been enjoying the Sonic strat and Tele, as well as the Contemporary series Jag and Jazz for a few years.
In a previous video you were talking to Gary Moore’s 1961 Stratocaster. According to Fender it was Fiesta red and had faded over time with use and sweat. They matched the faded Fiesta red for a custom shop model.
The Lace Sensor pickups Fender used were not noiseless. They are low noise, but they are actually single coils that use a different technology, and ferrite magnets.
What happened to the binding on the Tele? The loss of binding is a big miss for me. Immediately off the list. Good news is the OG Ultas are now discounted.
Just purchased my dream guitar from you guys 🙂 a very very nice strat. I’ve had a Mexican one for years and always thought one day I’d upgrade to my dream Strat… that day was today (well… last night technically 😂) but should arrive tomorrow! Can’t wait!!!
What really caught my eye was the size of that watch. Does it chime on the hour? As a reluctant Part-O-Caster Master, what I don't understand is, despite being bolt-in guitars, they're like my shoes. They only come in a D. For the price, there should be a C, a thin C, a BB (baseball bat), a V and a D. Why guess what players might like? Think of all the clothing that didn't catch on and has to be blown out at the end of the season. Everything else on these Ultra Ultras looks nice except maybe ebony which is stellar on a jazz box but shrill on a Strat/Tele. At least it looks gorgeous.
They look great, I bet those colours pop in the flesh. Good to see those slanted pickup selector switches, I’ve got them on one of my Tele’s, stops you turning yourself down…
The fact that the Meteora is in this range cements the Meteora as Fenders HH pro model. I wish the Harley Bentons & Eastcoasts of this world would cotton on to that and start making HH "M Shape" guitars.
I've fallen in love with that Meteora. Shame about the not-ss frets! I love the Bass cut control idea!! Great for recording!! Anyone know what kind of cut and frequency/curve it's doing?

I like that they were true to LEO on that solar flare Strat using the black amp knobs on the guitar. LEO never wasted parts if he could help it!!!! LOVEEEEEE IT!!!!
I've got one of the american deluxe teles from 04' (which became elite and now ultra). Its heavy, but overall not bad. Got it used in 05' for 800 bucks. Funny thing is that nowadays everyone says the original SCN tele pickups are really good. So just buy your guitars used and then hold onto them for 20 years, folks! Sooner or later people will say its good, even when it really isn't.
These sound great, look great, and have lots of great features very cool! Only criticism is I'm not sure I agree about the string clarity of the Haymaker pickups, they sounded good but didn't have the string seperation he was describing to my ears.. Not really sure why so many complaints about the price seems about in line for a premium american made guitar.. not much higher than the AVRI guitars
This guy and his attitude, perfect for showing off guitars that are so expensive they don’t even flash the prices onscreen, yet somehow don’t come with stainless steel frets. 😂
They’re too expensive for me too, but I don’t think they’re shamefully priced. Nothing like a PRS core (£1000 more at least), Gibson (an LP standard is at least £300-500 more heck even Epiphone make a guitar that’s near £2000 these days) or custom shop anything (1000s more).
@@PaulJonesy yeah I thought they were gonna be shockingly expensive because of comments, but they're not as bad as some other brands. As for SS frets. I have them and love them. I'm surprised people have made it a thing. I guess you can make anything a debate these days.
Actually kinda digging the Meteora...not usually my style but it's sobering a bit different. Especially in that "Texas Tea"...pretty cool! Gotta go check these out!
I've always been surprised that Fender do their logo in different colors/materials on their "modern/high end" variants.... in the light the logo often becomes invisible. Thought that would be the opposite of what they were going for.
Whoa, I arrived for the Tele but stayed for the Meteora. Stunning! This is a pricey line however. You could be well on the way to a custom shop or a nacho Tele for this sort of money.
I'm a Jag/Jazz player, but I picked up the second Tele style in my life in the more recent Sonic Tele series. Same red here. But man... that Fender Tele in red with that beautiful neck color, that's really something. I could be convinced, I have really enjoyed the Sonic Tele, I bet this plays like a dream.
I am still enjoying my Fender Elite Stratocaster Autumn color through a Fender Reverb. Those noiseless pu are good. Could these be $2300 better? 🤔 Pete always sounds great on everything 👍🏽
"Noiseless" vs Vintage " ? Almost takes me back to the '80 when Compact Disc was competing against Vinyl. Noiseless is more "closed down" while vintage has more "Air" and seems to sound more open. Noiseless does sound good ... But not sure I want to pay more for it. BTW My first Strat is an Am Std Strat Plus with the gold Lace pickups. I'm thinking probably the best "noiseless" design ? But Hey, I have recently discovered P90's and LOVE them in all their noisiness (but DO get a RWRP set, for noise cancellation when played in the middle switch position) .
The only pretty Ultra ll lefthanded is the white and silver one, and that is OK looking. Lefties really got shafted again. I would love the neutral red looking @38:07 in lefthanded.
Nice guitars. I thought Pete got more of a Strat single coil sound out of that Meteora (with only humbuckers) than he did with any of the Fender 'noiseless' guitars on offer. Fender need to be looking at what PRS are doing with their humbuckers that sound more like single coils...
Check out our playing only demo of the new Fender American Ultra II range here: ruclips.net/video/v4XcWJ75a6Y/видео.html

Cool that the meteora is getting more love.
Sorry, it looks like a pretty ugly guitar to me.

It tried to kill Ola
Something nobody asked for.
But they got rid of the Jazzmaster which was great
Love the new animation for the guitars , great way to bring attention to the information being discussed

When you do the Ultra 1 vs Ultra 2, can you throw the 70th anniversary Amethyst Ultra strat in the mix?
This guy and his attitude, perfect for showing off guitars that are so expensive they don’t even flash the prices onscreen, yet somehow don’t come with stainless steel frets. 😂
They’re too expensive for me too, but I don’t think they’re shamefully priced. Nothing like a PRS core (£1000 more at least), Gibson (an LP standard is at least £300-500 more heck even Epiphone make a guitar that’s near £2000 these days) or custom shop anything (1000s more).
All around £2,000- too expensive
I was expecting them to cost more. As for stainless steel frets, I expect Fender know what they’re doing.
@@PaulJonesy yeah I thought they were gonna be shockingly expensive because of comments, but they're not as bad as some other brands. As for SS frets. I have them and love them. I'm surprised people have made it a thing. I guess you can make anything a debate these days.
sire.
Love my tele ulta in plasma burst maple neck . Only tele I’ve ever bonded with.
You could be well on the way to a custom shop or a nacho Tele for this sort of money.
the Meteroa with Ebony FB and a proper HT Bridge is Great, however the whole look is almost ruined by these pickup rings.
That Meteora is a mean one
I'm a Jag/Jazz player, but I picked up the second Tele style in my life in the more recent Sonic Tele series. Same red here. But man... that Fender Tele in red with that beautiful neck color, that's really something. I could be convinced, I have really enjoyed the Sonic Tele, I bet this plays like a dream.
Director Al is a Fender Bossman OG!
I am still enjoying my Fender Elite Stratocaster Autumn color through a Fender Reverb. Those noiseless pu are good. Could these be $2300 better? 🤔 Pete always sounds great on everything 👍🏽
They should definitely do a HSS & SSS version of the Meteora that would be cool
Ultra 1 vs 2 comparison please!
It is nice to see a brand modernising classic guitars with modern cons. I can't think of any of the Gibson Les Paul with locking tuners !
