I remember playing mahjong as a kid it was in my old pc but i didn't even know what it was about , but after watching this anime it has many meanings for me know . I will never forget this anime and this genuis ! Akagi... What a beautiful once a life anime . It was a one time wonder
akagi and kaiji the ultimate survior are the best anime i have ever watched in my life and i'm 28 years old i watched a lot but these two are just legendary anime
Kaiji is another series by the same author which is just as good (and in my opinion better since it doesn't focus on one game). I do agree that Fukumoto's works are like one time wonders in a way though since the only gambling series that competes with them are his own other series!

Shingi is a rip-off of Aphex Twin's 'On'. I mean, I like it, but it's an obvious bite. Japanese composers have no problem with doing this. Most notably, the rip-off of Pink Floyd's "On The Run" in Cowboy Bebop. (Pierrot Le Fou Episode). Great soundtrack nonetheless. But if you are going to bite other people's stuff, at least give them credit.

I did some research on the title and in japanese it's 神技 which means God + skill, and I think we can all agree that akagi has some divine skill
