The closest you 'll find to him commenting on today's culture would be from his 14th and final HBO special, "It's Bad For Ya" in (2008). It was recorded in my hometown, and I was fortunate enough to be there for the taping. It's an absolutely great show. But watching his act in short clips is not the same as watching one of his whole shows, start to finish. He really takes you on a journey. You should react to the whole thing, but maybe post it in multiple parts?

George Carlin was an intelligent, socially-conscious, very aware individual. He definitely wasn't someone to hold back. He spoke his mind and didn't care one bit about the consequences. He was brash, yes. But I think that's what we liked about him so much. It was refreshing to hear someone not afraid to say exactly what was on their mind, and to deliver his ideas in such an intelligently funny way. I'm with you. I'd LOVE to hear what he'd have to say about what's going on today. And I believe this was recorded in the late 80's. Loving your comedy reactions! :)

Small correction, this bit was from his "Back in Town" special in '96...otherwise I'm in complete agreement...Thankfully, he has more modern stuff in specials like "It's Bad for Ya" in '08 as well as some of his memoirs in the "All My Stuff" collection (I believe it was titled, Last Words), and some bits from the '04 book, When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops?...but yeah, when did social media blow up? 2010-11 ish? Would love to hear his comments on the situation now, I'm sure he'd get a kick out of how often he is quoted in online discourse even as said discourse continues to degenerate into a cesspool of tribalism, accusations, and misinformation...

George has been my favorite comedian since I was a kid. Despite changing radically from an animated class clown whose act revolved around pointing out "goofy shit", to his later years when he became more of a philosophical mentor to the open-minded, he never stopped making us laugh ( even as he was simultaneously forcing us to examine ourselves and our fellow citizens). Please watch 'Suicide' from his 'Life's Worth Losing' special. Extremely dark and utterly hilarious.

The boomer comments from 20 some years ago. A prophet. I agree with the people telling you to listen to Bill Hicks.

    • @southernhippie9058
      @southernhippie9058 2 года назад

Well if the boomer perspective applies or not depends on the socioeconomic background of the person. It really only applies to upper middle class people from that era. Everyone else pretty much got screwed over by the system long ago especially if you were female, a minority or poor.

It's been far too long since I've watched George's comedy. I remember his "List Of People who Ought to be Killed" list is good (or anything by him, really).

LEGEND. George and I would have been best friends if we met. This guy is my spirit animal, nobody brought common sense to comedy like him. I wish I could have seen him LIVE, along with Paul Mooney and Charlie Murphy. Sigh

I recommend going back to some of his earlier work to see how he started. Carlin's evolution to the legend he became is really fascinating, at least to me. I say the same thing about Bo Burnham. He's a much different kid in his room today than he was at 14.

Looks like another person commented on Bill Hicks. Definitely check him out. He was another amazing cerebral comedian. Unfortunately left us too early, but was a major influence on the comedians that came after.

George Carlin was a God!! I tell you this as a conservative man. When I first heard him I was a kid, liberally minded and actually voted Democrat when I was 18. Then George Carlin became real. I realized that my vote and what I wanted wasn't real. George Carlin taught me that what I thought was real, what I think, how I view the world, THAT was real. Today at 54 I am free and I don't give a fuck how you think or what you think. I love life, I love people and cultures and history. I just want to be happy and have freedom to be happy, and I wish everyone the same. George Carlin was a God! Be a free thinker, I would love to have conversations with you.

George Carlin was a master of his craft. His work was, and hopefully still is, an inspiration to many upcoming comedians. What makes him even more amazing is that he would throw out his work and start from scratch about every two years. Simply amazing what he did.

George Carlins Hippy Dippy Weatherman was one of my favorites as a kid.
He started in the 70's and died in '08 and just got angrier and angrier as time went on.
Ya know, Epic Rap Battles did a video with him and Richard Pryor..

There was a big fad to dress like a cowboy in the 80s cuz Reagan wore jeans and a suit coat. A lot of young women at the time wore tight jeans and high heels. It was crazy yeah.

I saw George carlin in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Real unique type of comedian. You don’t Boston cut laughing at his shows but you don’t get bored at all. And four months after seeing him something will happen that reminds you of some thing he said and I will chuckle to myself. It’s like being let in on an inside joke. So rather than laughing really hard in the short term you chuckle for months

George Carlin was an absolute genius! Man was fearless. And he COULD say anything he wanted to and people wouldn't throw a fit because his words and his stories held meaning. He ripped on everybody, no matter race or social ladder. But he was a genuine guy. He may have told jokes which would get people cancelled today, but in the end he did it to bring people together. And it worked. There's 2 comedians I could listen to talk all day long and never get bored. George Carlin and Dave Chappelle. I would have loved to have seen the two of them sit down and have a conversation on modern society. RIP to an absolute legend.

Your great my friend. Carlin was one of my favorite if not my absolute favorite comedians growing up. He ..Richard Pryor...Don Rickles....Johnathan Winters...Bill Cosby.....made records that today could not be equalled. Clean humor..even curse words that didn't offend. My father loved Carlin and Pryor. I can recite ...imitate every character Pryor ever did. Tudlum....the old wino....Bud Jennings....Miss Rudolph.....you enjoy Carlin because he hits home with the truth. Just love your reactions. Occupation Foole was Carlin's 72' album that hooked me. That and Cheech n Chongs Big Bambu. Keep up the great stuff. Your an honest guy. Can't ask for more
