It's funny to me that Clive Barker had Danny Elfman do this score after using Christopher Young do the score for "Hellraiser" as well as the second one. Sam Raimi had Danny Elfman do the score for the first two "Spiderman" movies and then had Christopher Young do the score for the third movie.
What a great movie. I watched the directors cut twice this week (having been a fan of it already for years) but that is the definitive edition to watch. Elfman's score elevates it to a new level. It is truly a unique film, there will be nothing else quite like it for quite some time, truly visionary from Clive Barker. Not perfect, but the man did Hellraiser and this, I'm sorry he quit directing, he was an incredible talent.
What ever happened to the cabal cut as I really enjoy this film but I don’t understand the ending and what happened I heard the cabal cut puts things into perspective a lot more
@@averagechadlegionary5824 i woul love to watch the cabal cut one day, there is also talk about the "ultimate cabal cut" which would have everything restored digitally and another 30min added, so the movie would be 3hrs long!! I would watch that in a heartbeat!
I can tell this was made by Danny Elfman because the type of music and style it's going for really matches to movies like batman, batman returns, and Beetlejuice.
Music is so good in this film. First time I've ever heard a vocal choir used like this, so perfect for the film, and fitting for the demons that are in it...
This track is actually off the album 'Danny Elfman Music for a Darkened Theatre: Film & Television Music Volume 1'. "Meat for The Beast" and "End Credits" are expanded on the actual score released by MCA Records on both cassette(MCAC-8037), vinyl(MCA-8037)and compact disc(MCAD-8037).
Even though David Cronenberg is obviously a better director than actor, I have to admit it was a creative casting choice to have him play the villain in this movie. Cronenberg's evil character was so despicable that by the end of the movie, you just shrug and think ANY form of death was too good for him.
I have used this in several role playing campaigns for encounters with powerful, otherworldly creatures. Particularly in a Nightbreed inspired horror game I ran where the players are characters who just discovered they were Nightbreed after spending the first 16-17 years of their lives living perfectly normal human lives. The cadence and discordance of the song, particularly around the 3:50 mark is great for that confusing, terrifying discovery. :)
I remember seeing the commercials for this movie around the time it came out. I remember seeing it when RoboCop was on TV one night and I never got to see the movie until about 5 years ago when it was on Netflix. But the way the commercials were, they were kinda different from the movie. Meaning the commercials were more scarier than the actual movie.
Una de mis bandas sonoras preferidas del señor Elfman. Muy desconocida dentro de su curriculum y sin embargo uno de sus trabajos más personales y épicos. Para mi al nivel de su Batman.
I was like 7years old when I saw this it's my fav movie to this day scary and awesome the girl with the spikes was the first boobs I ever saw I thought she was so hott they looked bigger when I was a kid now I'm almost 40 lol I own 2 VHS copy's and a DVD copy up on dispay in my living room
Quack Quack I can’t tell if Cabal was seen as the savior of meridian or the destroyer and are the monsters afraid of him at the end or do they revere him also at the end after he revived his girlfriend did he abandon the monsters or return to them as the ending I saw seemed kind of ambiguous that’s really it though
Tyler Jordan I believe that Cabal was seen as a good guy in the end because I remember him doing something for boones girlfriend that was kind like he ended up being nice. (It’s been a minute since i’ve seen the movie but I’ve seen it multiple times.) And in the end I think they went back and both lived with the monsters because boones girlfriend gets turned into one as well.
Quack Quack I believe I may have seen the theatrical so that might explain my confusion I heard that version of the film was highly edited I should probably watch the Director’s Cut
Great Movie with Bro Craig Sheffer and Anne Bobby Night Breed says Jason Mathew Cruise Cousin David Boreanaz Angel Jamie Boreanaz Cousin Tom Cruise Family
"Everything's true, God's an astronaut, Oz IS over the rainbow and Midian's where the monsters are. "
This score is what defines my childhood to the core. Cheers God sir😊
I love Danny Elfman of the nineties.
Check out Danny Elfman of the 80's. Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Wisdom, Beetle Juice, Scrooged, and his Magnum Opus 1989's BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS!
80s and 90s.
Me too. This has to be one of the creepiest soundtracks Danny Elfman ever wrote. Got to love it.
I love this for being Mr. Elfman's most unusual, dream-like, psychedelic score.
Fits with how surreal Midian is in the movie. I like that it was done on sets to give it that "realistic, but clearly not real" look.
My mum got me this on vhs back in the day.. love this movie today! ❤
This movie was so fun and great, with this music i remember Midian....

Heaven doesn't want me....and Hell won't take me.... I love this movie...This music is magical....

I agree.

1000 percent correct !!!! His music just sounds other worldly and goes perfectly with the movie.
The combination of "savage" and "elegant" greatly represent the entire Clive Barker creative spirit.
SUPER.

Sounds more like it belongs in "Batman Returns"
Midian is where the Monsters live
I always enjoyed the opening credits of the movie...the great music set to Ralph McQuarrie ' s wall of prophecy artwork.

TodericoArt Thanks man! Boy, was that something. I suppose Nightbreed has a similar appeal to it. I love the C64 version, too, and the music is EPIC.
You know, this music wouldn't be out of place in something like Shadow of the Beast.
