The octopus is a very expressive animal. If you decode its movements, it's more expressive than humans. I am fishing underwater, spearhunting, in Greece for 40 years. I stopped fishing octopuses some 20 years ago because, once I understood them, I couldn't stand to see them die. To me it's like watching a human die. It's not only me, I have met other fishermen who feel the same. Now, when I see an octopus I always dive next and admire it. So obviously I find this video appalling.
I surely agree with your comment! I caught and cleaned one octopus in Puget Sound, over 60 years ago. I felt so bad that never again did I do that, however, I interacted with many hundreds of them over the next five decades and 5,000 dives. They are magnificent creatures and should not be killed for food.

I would not finish watching it because I saw a guy that did a documentary on octopuses, and he followed one of them until they were an adult octopus, and he formed a connection with him, and the octopus actually waited for him every day to greet him. It was incredible on Netflix so you see eating him is ridiculous.
Octopuses are some of the most intelligent and emotionally developed creatures on this planet. I refuse to eat them anymore and encourage others to do the same.

You could eat Octopus almost whenever you wanted without killing it, if ya raised 12 of 'em and only harvested one tentacle from a different octopus, every 4 days. No matter what size of Octopus, they can fully replace an amputated limb in about 130days.

Octopus is one of the economically edible animals.
Their reproduction rate is such that they can handle commercial fishing. You eat almost the entire animal so little is wasted. You see the chef dispatching them quickly, which is a lot kinder than most animals in nature.
That and they taste good.
Octopus populations vary wildly and they cannot necessarily handle commercial fishing. In the Puget Sound there was a dramatic octopus population drop due to overfishing which has finally recovered in the past two decades after fishing was essentially stopped. If you like suckers for dining, I recommend commercial fishing for the exploding population of Humboldt Squid, who are ranging far out of their normal habitat.

I used to fish commercially for giant Pacific octopus around Victoria, Canada. We caught them diving with SCUBA gear.
I believe that is more honorable than hauling them in with nets.

I think if you will be catching seafood it's better to catch the middle sized ones. Large sea creatures like that takes a long time to grow.
