It's good to see a video which features someone who fully understands parkour talking about an approach to training. It's sustainable in the long term, and it works. Too many videos these days focus on massive movements and little else. It might look spectacular and impressive, but it doesn't represent a real parkour training methodology. The way Chris trains is similar to my own approach to parkour. Anyone who intends to train parkour sustainably should watch this video.
I met him at the PKGen event Winterval, this year. He is such a nice guy. He took the warm up... Man that was the hardest thing I've ever done. Such a beast!
I've never considered having a journal, I find it particularly useful how you use it to identify what you haven't worked on recently;very useful advice that I'll implement.
First video of its kind, very interesting! I remember an older Storm interview with Tim and Kie, about what their training looks like, and Kie (of all people) said he used to lift but now he ONLY trains parkour, no additional excersizes whatsoever. I found that very hard to believe. There's got to be a healthy middle ground between the systematic approach Rowat uses and running and jumping in a chaotic fashion. If this is what the series explores I'm looking forward to the next episode!
Yeah I like this, there's a lot I can relate to and it seems my timing with all of this is just as yours is. That is, I've been delving into weights and other training activites that will simply make me stronger and more powerful as you have/are. Def. like how you said that every week is varied - that's important for people to understand. And that sessions, if intense, can last only an hour - that's where I'm at in my training right now.
Come to one of our classes, get some decent guidance from the start. Start slow and carefully, learn about your body, strengthen and mobilise, then move and explore. Guidance is key!
Makes so much sense, this. PS: Don't know if I missed it in the vid, it seems to be mostly about strength. Do you specifically do anything to improve or maintain explosive power? Or do the parkour moves take care of that?
Absolutely no prior experience in other sports is required - parkour is the base of human fitness and is a great way to leanr about fitness, strength and your own body's potential.Visit our site for more details and if you can, come to one of our classes to get the best start.
I want to start parkour/freerunning, but as of current I am very unfit and have no past experience of any such sport. What would be the best way to start out?
Start out with a 5x5 routine, it'll get you good strength and hypertrophy. If you're fat, do cardio on your rest days. If you're skinny, still do cardio, but maybe just once a week till you are at a solid weight, then you can more easily maintain your calories and do more cardio. Get a good diet. Lots of protein, carbs, healthy fats, vitamins, etc. If you have any questions, just shoot me a message and I can elaborate.
Hey Blane, love the video! I'm 17, going off to college and would love to get into parkour once there. However, I have a two part question. One, I am doing CrossFit right now, could I do CrossFit and parkour together? Second, what's a good training program to follow? I
hey flow, i really, REALLY want to get in to parkour. im a bboy and physically probably strong enough to do this, but i have no gym or parks that have nice walls to vault over or such. help please?
Flexibility refers to the the length of a muscle. To stretch to become flexible is to actually lengthen a muscle. Mobility is different, hence the different name. Mobility is improving a range of motion without lengthening any muscles. This can be do by work on a joint capsule and working on soft tissue and sliding surfaces. Again do some research.
I've been working on the physical aspect recently by finishing P90X and now doing a weightlifting program.. but I wonder where to really start parkour? It seems like gymnastics would be very beneficial, but there are no beginners classes for 33 year old men (and I don't want to have to be the creeper that joins a class with a bunch of 6 year olds :) ). P.S. Where did you get that killer "cock" shirt at 1:06? I want one ;)
Don't be afraid to be the oldest in the group. Don't be afraid to look like a creeper because, you'll be jumping around like an idiot so what's the point of worrying? Haha! Just find a community ask to train with them or if they have a workshop ask to join that. Cheers and good luck. :)
in Iran we tried to opened a federation for parkour to make it official, but the government closed the federation... now Parkour and freerunnig is forbiden... and we are fucked up... I didn't think U have problems in Russia... Cause U have igels gym in Moscow I think... which is built for parkour practicing...

Good to see Blane back again. Never thought of keeping a training diary! I'll start that today.
I really enjoyed him trying out different lines and explaining why he prefers one over the other and how he is using the different obstacles.
Looking at different elements of the parkour world and Blane's experience of training. Good stuff coming.

This seems like a very intelligent approach to training. I'm loving the material you guys are putting out lately; keep up the great work!

A very interesting watch. Nice to see a video from Blane again!

Blane's videos are priceless.

Really happy to see sustainable ways of training like mobility work and lifting being introduced by one of the heads of the community. Way overdue.

nice to see this sort of stuff on here!
That was good, lets see some more stuff like this.
the next video in the series talks about his training and longevity. he's been training for 10-11 years.

It's called myofascial release, John. Releases the muscles within their fascia, promoting healthier activation.
Blane is based at our HQ in London, but travels regularly to run international seminars and workshops.
Great advice as always Blane
Great video, guys!
I hope there's more where that came from :]
Interesting. I like this series.

What great training grounds you've got there O.O
This is great. I would love to be on this show.
So true.
I want to start parkour/freerunning, but as of current I am very unfit and have no past experience of any such sport. What would be the best way to start out?
impressive!
what are the tennis ball stretches and the stretches at 1:40 for? pls
Where did you get / what brand and model is the weighted vest in this video?
Starting martial arts would also be a good idea, to train your flexibly and endurance and such.
good video!
Hey, can i just ask where you got the bar at 2:08 and the weight jacket at he end?
Awesome.
what was he doing with the ball and with the rubber thing under him while lying on his back?

I was going to say the same thing, but the video gives me even more of an impression that he really is a robot.
For how long have you been training?
Thinking 3 days on 1 day off, then 2 days on one day off?
Beast

Mobility is a lot more effective and usefull than flexibility. Do some research man.
He's left handed.
