I'm Northern African and even as a lawyer I was exposed to unfair decisions or actions. Like for example, the Police asking me to open my bag when I enter the court, although I use the lawyer's special entry (with a badge), and the Police aren't supposed to be allowed to open our confidential documents.

It is surprising this story was somehow picked up by a Turkish broadcaster, but no other media reported the story (there are a certain number of left-leaning media in France and the UK that would definitely report such a story). And it would have been interesting to hear the police and prosecutor's version of events (as it is obviously not an offence in France to wander around with a scarf or a keffieh!).

I think or rather I hope that something else was involved. When a Middle Easterner wears a scarf like that and he comes to France there is an evil intention behind it.
There is a REASON why the French have banned these kinds of scarves and even the Hijab. They're not stupid.

I was discriminated against once while I was passing through Paris. I have decided not to visit or even pass through forever. I don't regret that decision at all, I won't visit and travel through that country. Just stop traveling to France for your own peace of mind.

It's clearly fake... This guy scarf is very "hipster" especially with the hat. I mean yes the french police is racist but they are going to target "poor" people. On the champs elysees and in big hotels there is a lot of muslims from saudi qatar etc and they don't have problems with the french police. Also if this guy was truly arrested as a british citizen it could have start an diplomatic incident between France and the UK.

Islamic scarf has totally nothing to do with clothing, it is a religions symbol, besides, Frances faced 60 islamic terrorist attacks in the last few years, so of course the police is going to take very seriously any suspcious person notification, and will nto take any chance. that is totally normal, if you wear islamic beard, islamic scarf, you are more likely to be noticed, furthermore that there is a very serious problem with extremist islamists in france already. There is nothing abnormal here, France has welcome more islamic refugee over the years than any other EU coutry, there is now a very large established population in france, since decades and a good part of this population literally hates western values, which is a major problem and threat to the society, besides the youngest generations causes massive issues and represent 70% of the prisons population, if you cannot understand that, then there is no point discussing it. Try to go to turkey or middle east and wear some kippa, so that we can see the legendary tolerance of the islamic society 🤣.

I did call the embassy... they asked me to be understanding with their current situation... they refused to help. It has been more than two months... I am still in paris... I can't go anywhere, unless I sign a paper saying I am guilty... but forgetting somehow to let me know, guilty of what. Thank you for your support 😊

I remember being harassed by far right young men at my school in Paris for wearing a kefiyah (the Palestinian scarf) back in the late 70's, they wanted to beat me up behind a truck right outside the school. I told them I will defend myself, and come back with my friends the next day. They retreated and ceased to harass my friend and myself for the rest of the school year. Both my friend and I coincidently now live in the US. I will never move back to France.

Odd. The Palestine scarf used to be super common in both Spain and France when I was growing up. Probably a quarter of the kids in my college had one. Yes, it was used as a political message against the ocupation and abuse of Palestine, but that was hardly controversial back then. If memory serves, France used to be one of the less pro-Israel countries in Europe. Wth happened in 10 years?

2) contact your government and inform them that this what happen to tourists in france.
3) Find a human right lawyer and sue the french government.
4) make a series for yourself on socical media and let people know with your case status.
