Susan getting superpowers was a blessing in disguise for her. It was clear at this moment that her marriage to Derek wouldn’t work out. Regardless of whether or not she got superpowers he would’ve prioritized his career over his own wife. Her marriage was doomed from the start. She just didn’t know it. It was this scene, as heartbreaking as it was, she learned that she dodged a bullet by not getting married to him.

Gallaxhar may have been the main antagonist in this movie. Still, he was more likeable than Derek because he had at least some funny moments, such as when he drank a cup of tea with his ear and couldn't come up with a creative or imaginative name for Earth in case he took over.
I’ll be honest , he being scared of Susan isn’t unreal realistic at all . Most people would be scared of the person that they love suddenly become a giant and destroy a church (accidentally) .

If you think about it , her wedding was actually a foreshadow for this scene . They were supposed to enjoy their honeymoon in Paris but Derek choose Fresno, a 1hr30+ min drive from Modesto . And his reason for that is that he might receive a job offer there . A very clear cut sign that he cared about his career than his wedding 🙄

You know what's sadder than this break up, this movie did not get a lot of good reviews and fans as it hoped for. I thought it was good, with the humor, action, and attractive giant girl. When I saw the series, I thought there was hope for the movie. But no, it failed as well. What a bummer.
The least thing I saw, was Project MGS a rescore of Monsters Vs Aliens, though it still won't change anything, it became slightly better at some point

If she truly loved him, she would’ve been concerned for him and give him the support and confidence that eventually there can be a cure for him. Even when she saw how he and the fantastic 4 saved the day at the bridge, she still decided to leave her wedding ring.
But like you said, it’s great that he did found love again, someone who accepted him even in his rock form. Sometimes I wish there was a scene where his ex wife regretted her choice and tells him to come back to her only for Ben to be like “sorry but I found someone who truly loves me unlike you.” That would’ve been extra satisfying 😆
@@firemiracle Yeah, right?! I don't know what her problem was but yeah it was so disappointing to see and you could see the devastation on everyone else's face on his behalf. That's also a cool thing you mentioned about her being regretful...didn't think so far but now you've got me picturing, so thank you for that assignment hehehe! I also thought the casting for that movie was top notch . But yeah I guess it also shows that what my appear as true and eternal love may not necessarily be so after a particularly large ordeal :/ and it's through going through that large obstacle that you finally get the grandest and truest prize

It would have been different if Derek had thought dating a giant woman just wasn’t for him, because let’s face it a size difference like that between two lovers would be very difficult.
But he admitted to not wanting to be with her BECAUSE SHE WAS BETTER THEN HIM
Different, yes, but still a shitty excuse. A literal size difference being the nail in the coffin of a relationship is a signal that the relationship is unhealthy. It may introduce challenges such as questions about how to have kids or how people perceive their relationship from the outside looking in or how they can do things together, but those aren’t impossible to tackle. And yes, they’ll take a lot of communication and trust to solve, but that’s the foundation of every healthy relationship. Besides, it’s obvious that Susan never asked for a meteor strike to make her bigger. It just happened. If a relationship can’t survive a sudden circumstance, then it’s clear there are deeper issues at play that need addressing.
It’s a bit like if a partner gets cancer or suffers a broken limb or loses a job or suffers a miscarriage or something. People who are in relationships need to work around these things too. They may not be exactly the same as a massive size difference, but all of them are situations that no one asked for nonetheless so the solution to them all is the same.
@ Idk I wouldn’t blame someone for not wanting to be with someone that size, of course it’s a little fucked up to just completely leave the person you were going to marry because of this but it’s not entirely bad imo.
Derek didn’t even care about her being a giant tho, he saw that she saved those people and felt threatened. His ego was bruised

Putting Derek’s selfishness aside nobody would be in the wrong for deciding not to be with someone like her, it’s unfair to them and it’s unfair to her.
Exept that Susan didn't want to stay giant forever. She wanted Derek to help her get back to normal. So just the "I don't want to date giants" isn't really good excuse here. When you love someone, you need to be ready for everything or it's proof you don't care enough about the person...
With that said, there's something I've been thinking about and just found a bit weird: Even thought I understand Susan mind about them being a team, what did Susan thought Dereck was going to do, like specificly talking? The dude isn't a scientist or anything like that. We don't even are wealthy he is. The only thing he could really do is give her confort and support. Dr Cocktouch (with the right tech) and the general are way more qualify for finding a way for Susan to get back to normal. So why expecting him to do the work?
Then again, maybe it's just suppose to show how indeed this "us" mindset is affecting Susan overall 🤔
1:01 this scene always made me laugh😭 when he slaps his hands away, I just can’t.
I know this movie gets shit on, but I personally adore it. Susan is really kind but ultimately put her husband before herself. That's why she's genuinely shocked when she can do so much on her own, and why it kills her that the "team" she thought Derek and her were turned out to be a lie. It's movies like this that make being a single woman feel like an adventure. You get to see the world, have the respect of men who you can actually be platonic friends with, and be yourself without worrying about being "too much".
