Your comments and review are spot on. Started the British Campaign and completed the first engagement. First engagement observations: (1.) Enemy ships that surrender will rejoin the battle if a prize crew is not put on board. (2.) AI tracking suspect. Enemy ship under full sails ran a ground. No damage. Enemy ship was "stuck" on the beach still under full sails firing away at my fleet. (3.) Players need more in game information. (4.) Land battles clunky. Need infantry formations and a better command interface. But, having stated the previous, Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail is a fun, enjoyable, and engaging simulation naval game! I'm a big fan of the Hornblower and Bolitho novels, so this game hits a sweet spot for me! Do you know if the developers have plans for future updates?
I believe this dev have sold up and moved on sadly...
Your review is spot on, there are just a few niggles, but not show stoppers. Not being able to form square when faced with cavalry is frustrating. You get off a volley, then they hack through your line. Another is rowboats, you can't choose the number of people in a boat and there's no detail on boat capacity. I can't seem to be able to row to shore and rescue a group of stragglers. The boat has to be empty for them to get in!
Oh, thats a good situation to improve. I've asked to allow selecting number of units that board/get i to the row boats and that theoretically would then allow a rescue mission. Nice idea.
You did a great job reviewing. Very interesting and descriptive. Bravo!
Thank you.
Great review, thank you very much.
Really well made video. Not many have done review of the game this well.
Also as a new youtuber learned a lot about reviewing games from you. Huge RTS fan here. All the best buddy.
Thank you so much, best of luck with your RUclips channel :-)
with some upgrades this game could be really great
Just found your channel great job
Thanks and welcome 🙏
Nice review Mike, like the fact it is both land and sea but worried about what you allude on the poor implementation of land battles, wish it was more like Total War, thanks for the information :)
Yeah its the one area that dies need some attention.
they are releasing
‘Train sim world rush hour’
Hopefully dtg don’t screw this up, and doesn’t make yet ANOTHER money milk
Hmmmmmmm
Great Review Mike - I actually bought this a while back but never really gave it much time as it was in early access and limited. Think I might just revisit this after your review :-)
Great stuff.
the sun never sets on the british empire and it certainly wasnt the end of the british empire during this time period in this game
Well I guess, but I've always considered it the beginning of the end: Late 18th and throughout the 19th century (After Napoleon) we turned our attentions away from the America towards Asia, Culminating I guess in about 1918 when the world wars finally put an end to TBE as we know it....but I by no means have extensive knowledge, and am relying upon my recollection of my school years.

@@SimUKReviews the british empire begining of the end was after the first world war from the napoleonic era to that point was our golden age at the height of our glory it hasnt even truly ended we still have overseas territory and the commonwealth we just dont directly have direct control over the commonwealth but our overseas territories yes we still do
Well if you put it like that I can hardly argue against you :-)
The ship and water animations look nice, but the UI is really off-putting. Health bars, large shiny green circles around the ships, large red area on the sea to showcase firing arc. I was there was a more aesthetic way to show these things without it feeling super-imposed on top of an otherwise beautiful game. I have the same issue with Total War.
Keep wanting a game like this. Is it PC only? Thanks for your usual quality reviews.
Thank you, I think it is PC only but I'm not absolutely certain it will stay that way?
Ok. Would be nice if it comes to console. Thanks for replying.
Wind direction changes in battle. I think it's scripted and often too sudden but it's there.
I'll keep looking for it, TBH there is so much going on I'm not sure I would even notice it lol
It does chance is is scripted 😀
