we are looking to move to NH. We are originally from Western NYS and moved the SW Florida. Now we are looking to move back north, but NYS property taxes are worse than NH $4000 to over 11K and still need to renovate the home. Plus NYS does income tax and sales tax. Also, I read that NH has a property tax exemption from age 65+ and the older a body gets, the cheaper the taxes. Jobs, we are going to need jobs. We are 54 and 60 yrs. Are there issues with hiring people our age?
Native NH here, and left to live all over the world. I moved back and love it here. There are drawbacks like any other state but feels like those are mostly inconveniences. Property tax is high but you can actually do something about that unlike sales or income tax.
I agree about the black flies, 'skeeters and ticks; they're all a nuisance and the ticks can kill you (Lyme disease) ! As for snakes - YES ! There ARE venomous snakes in N.H., but only one species- the Eastern Diamondback, (a.k.a. Timber Rattler) and they are rare. I was a native Granite Stater for over 50 years and have hunted and fished all over the state - never saw one rattlesnake in all that time, in spite of frequenting a spot called 'Rattlesnake Hill' during hunting season ! The one thing I miss most is my springtime trout fishing excursions ! (Here in Arizona, we have 13 species of rattlesnakes (including the Mojave rattler which is the most dangerous species in the country), plus coral snakes, Gila monsters, brown recluse and black widow spiders, tarantulas and scorpions !)
i disagree as a nh resident myself i have said time and time again that new england in general is a safe zone from natural disasters and fatal dangers examples are in florida hurricanes in arizona and texas are deserts filled with poisonous snakes volcanos in hawii, and envormants for tornados in the south and middle of the country while in the new england corner you are basically safe from such natural disasters and fatal dangers and thats why if i wanted to live in one place my entire life it is new hampshire within new england its better then having dangers lurking and natural disasters dispite the points this guy made in the video. being safe is better then not dealing with high living costs and having only 1 major city a.k.a manchester the good outweighs the bad also why new hampshire and not anywhere else? what makes nh different then all other new england states for a safe zone? 2 things 1. no sales tax and 2. live free or die moto makes nh a little more free then other states. im staying right here also bunus add on to make nh good variety of options for type of location to live. wanna live in mountain terrain? just live in or near the white mountians wanna live in forest? try most northern part of the state. wanna live by seacoast? no problem! we got hampton beach. wanna swim in non sea water? no problem just live near lake winnipasakiue wanna live in a city instead? manchester is your best option!
@sammyday3341 I grew up in Attleboro MA before I went to Florida.... the horse flies there were huge! Deerflies here are relentless ... and you can legit hear the roaches walking on the floor they are so big 😂 Still, if spiders are to break the tie, we have Huntsmans here. Our last rental had an infestation that gave one of my kids nightmares lol look them up!
Reason to stay away...no major city? To me, that is a big bonus. Boston only an hour down 93. Find myself not going there too often. Property taxes? Yup. But no income or sales tax and no tax on SS. Ticks? VT, Maine, MA, etc... got them too. Not sure how that is different than other states. I'll take NH all day long.
None of those are issues for me except the high property taxes. But if we ever did move (doubtful) we would probably rent for 1 year. I am hopelessly in love with New England. Traffic well I don't drive because of my chemotherapy. We live in SLC so use to heavy traffic. Hubby also use to live in Seattle. So did I at the same time but a few years before we met. If we clear all or most of our debt maybe it's possible. I know Dartmouth has good cancer treatment and Dana Farber in Boston is only about a two hour drive. (probably more depending on the time of day.
Depends where you live. My wife and I bought our retirement home in Moltounborough....property taxes are very low.....I believe second lowest in the state. My property tax in Ashland , Massachusetts was 120% higher with very similar assessment. Big problem I see are the progressive liberals from Massachusetts flooding into the southern part of the state. They want to turn New Hampshire into Massachusetts....just look at Joyce Craig's position on gun control....she is a progressive nut (I realize that is redundant.) If you want the liberal agenda stay in Massachusetts or move to any of the other blue eastern states.
Property Tax is high in NH but many of Maine's tax rates are 1-2% as well with high prices. Do the math on YOUR income because you will be paying Maine income tax AND property tax. Compare the NET difference and you will be surprised. I have had suggested to many high income earners to move to NH because of the math.
N.H. is one of the best states the way the towns are laid out it's perfect for building up your body and biking everywhere... you'll build incredible strength by doing that. It's one of the best states to be homeless too you can camp out in a lot of places. Ticks can get on you if you're near long grass type of areas ...if youre near pine treess they're never there....the winter goes by fast you want to carry two sleeping bags
Lived in NH for a few years from Dec 2015 to February 2018. 😂😂about the bugs. They are nothing compared to sour states. Most beautiful state in the Union and I have been to them all. Yes property taxes are high but not as bad as California Arizona Texas Florida Pennsylvania etc. By the way it’s no longer a red state. It’s almost blue. Reason is so many people have flooded bingo Nh from mass or Vermont to live cheaper than those states. Then they drive across the border into Vermont and mass. To work.😂Unbelievable they voted blue policies then move to a red state and they still vote blue. Unbelievable. Another BIG reason property taxes are shooting up in NH.
@@Livetheseacoast Was in the Berlin for that per. All the hiking was outs on my days off with the wife and kids when they visited. Only reason we do go back was the February period. Havoc on my bad knee and back. Besides that my wife and myself miss it.
Dunkin donuts sucks! There, I said it.. It's overpriced, mediocre coffee. You will get much better and cheaper coffee at McDonald's. The "love" for Dunkin is just effective marketing to easily manipulated customers. It's definitely not because of the "quality" of the product. Why would you live in New Hampshire when you could live in Maine? Unless you work in Massachusetts and are trying to avoid taxes, you will get a better deal and lifestyle in Maine. Anything near the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire is unaffordable to the average buyer. People in Maine are also a lot more laid back and don't have as much of that high stress, high anger energy that I find in most New England states. Massachusetts and New Hampshire are in a death spiral of unaffordability that is going to result in a mass exodus from both states. If both states only have housing for the wealthy, who is going to do the actual work? Plumbers and HVAC guys charge double because they have to drive down from Maine. EVERYTHING costs much more because the people who actually work can't afford to live anywhere near the jobs.
Hahaha, bugs, we have them; mosquitos carrying Dengue fever, we have them; gators, we got them; snakes, we got them; two-leg predators, we got them, taxes, very high, 11.5 sales tax, yep, we have them. Why am I still living in Puerto Rico, waiting for my wife to retire next year? Me? I retired from the Marshals Service on the last day of 2017. I lived in Presque Isle, Maine, from 1986 to 1989 and worked in Caribou, so I am not a stranger to snow or cold weather. Granted, I was young and stupid, but now I am old and stupid😂😂😂. I want peace; I've had enough of adrenaline-infused action. I want a small town where I can have less chance of encountering the two-leg predator. I am going to keep an eye on your channel. September 2025 is my target. Thanks.
If NH is so terrible why are you living here? lol I just moved to beautiful southern NH and love it! There are pros and cons to every state and city/town! There are far worst states to live in here in the US where the weather is even worst i.e. horrific hurricanes, violent tornadoes, mudslides/landslides, earthquakes, terrible horrific wildfires, constant flooding in Miami and Houston, extreme heat waves, more intense weather conditions mostly due to Global Warming /Climate change which is real! Top leading scientists/meteorologists have already stated that storms are going to get worst now due to climate change, but winters in New England are suppose to get more mild! NH was just voted the safest state in the country...count your blessings! signed a die-hard Yankee New Englander born in Boston whose forebears have been here on my maternal side since 1648 and 1721 from the UK!
Your comment was encouraging! Goodness, I grew up in tornado alley (IL), lived in Austin TX for many years (oh the heat), resided in So.Cal and now in No.Cal (fires and earthquakes) and I wouldn't live in FL if you gave me a house. I believe some of the negative comments are from those who are trying to keep people away. Clearly, you're a democrat 🙋♀since you understand the effects of climate change, which is encouraging. Visited ME and NH in Aug. 2018 and loved it! Can't beat the tax-friendly status for retirees, because I have no interest in purchasing a home and prefer renting - too much of a gypsy. Retiring next year and am definitely considering NH since I am much more East Coast than West Coast - I wear way too much black 👢
I've enjoyed NH, I hope it retains its luster though. Been here 22 years as of this past summer. With that said, I've noticed a sharp increase in bigoted behavior disite its political profile on paper. It was somewhat a better place in the early 2000's through about 2017. We get about half the snow we used to and the polical fray and housing crisis is slowly chipping that lovely almost neutral "live free or die." If you're Black, stick with Manchester, Nashua, maybe even Concord otherwise yes while relatively seldom you will run into a problem here and there. Just speaking from experience. The vast majority of granite staters arent like that, but there's a small minority and thier presence it felt. Every other demographic, I would say its still a solidly accepting place compared to other states. USA, do better 🤨. Cause it is a great state, don't ruin it. Peac e! 😎✌️
