    I love the colors. When you pleat is the shirt still damp? I can't remember if you do it dry or wet. I find it easier if it is slightly damp. I always have problems with lots of pleats using rubber bands because I can never keep the pleats flat. The ends always make the middle pop out and I have to start all over, but that's with bigger pieces of fabric, although I have the same problem with t-shirts. I use chopsticks across the pleats on both sides and connect those with rubber bands. It's been a minute since I have done that though. I have a tray dye that I used loose pleats thats about to come out of the wash...I'll post it on FB...it looks promising thus far. Don't know how much color will wash out though.

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 года назад

      I tie damp from the panda spin dryer. So, barely damp. Yes, rubber bands can do that sometimes. I haven’t tried the chopsticks but I’ve seen LSD use bamboo. I saw your tray dye. What is “tray” dyeing? It looked like it had a lot of color. It reminded me of LWI. ❤️🌈

    Such amazing results for a pretty simple process!🥰 I am not that fond of Gildan shirts either. I recently bought some JC Penny Stafford Heavyweight Premium Performance t-shirts for projects I for my husband. They are a lot thicker fabric, so a bit harder to work with, but my first ever geode shirt turned out very well and for softness you cannot beat it! He has worn the Stafford shirts for years and loves them... now they are just tie dyed! A bit pricey if you do not catch a sale, but so worth the quality.

    Omg I used the same colors as you but I think the order u have them in is what I messed up on. I did red violet, turq, daffodil than hot hibiscus. • @BelladonnaDyesCo

      Hi, Benny. The primary colors don’t split. Fuchsia Red, Lemon Yellow & Turquoise. The rest do. Some colors split more than others. • @BelladonnaDyesCo

      That happens to me too sometimes. I usually hit it with another round of ice. No, my ice maker is taxed. I don’t think it really has time to set up. I hope that makes sense. Have you tried putting the dye on top of the ice instead? ❤️🌈

    One of my favorites of your projects, Stephanie. Question: when you wash a newly dyed project in hot water in a washing machine do you combine a group of projects into one load? If so, is there a risk of dye transfer from one project to another?

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 года назад

      Thanks. Yes, I wash up to 8 shirts sometimes. Usually they are similar in color. I rinse very well and then use Keiralon and haven’t had issue with dye back. I batch for 48 hours so the chemical reaction is spent. If I’m trying to protect white I’ll wash them separately for a couple cycles just in case. Think about rainbows… all the colors are there. The colors don’t deposit on each other if it’s rinsed well before washing. I hope this helps. ❤️🌈

    I absolutely love this shirt and have been dying to know how to do this pattern for a long time! So thank you so much for sharing! I've been batching my shirts for only 24 hours total..is there a real huge diff? Also. You're cute little chunks of ice are adorable and I've always wanted an ice machine, do you feel that these ice cubes versus store bought or homemade are a lot better to use for ice dying?

    • @BelladonnaDyesCo
      @BelladonnaDyesCo  2 года назад +1

      Where I live is cooler so I prefer a longer batch time for maximum vibrancy and less dye goes down the drain because it bonds with the fibers. To each their own. Some people batch for a few hours and pull their project. It just depends on what you want the final outcome to be. 24 hours at 70° is what Dharma recommends. I prefer the nugget ice out of convenience. Running to the store everyday was starting to add up. If you have a refrigerator ice maker that works too. Ice is ice. I use different kinds from time to time. ❤️🌈

    Hey, ya'll! What are you doing? Sweet Belladonna Dyes or Belldomma Grateful Deads, so how many colors do you have them right now....... so do you have 10 of 8.ozs different colors and 36 Ibs of Different colors Just like Mr. Tie Dye has them from his videos to take them for all of his 100% cottons. And what colors have you been doing using since I apologize for basically to text you from your Commented because I don't have to look on my Chore bucks to see how much dollars do I have them, in my Black table? 😙❤

      Hi Kyle. I’m not sure what Mr. Tie Dye has. I’m sure he probably has a lot of dye. Most of my colors are in the 2 oz jars. The colors I use a lot are in the 8 oz jars. I use 1 lb of Raven black. I hope that answers your question. ❤️🌈

    I'm disappointed with the size of the Gildan shirts. But lovethe way the Hoodie fits.

      Yeah, they run small, short in length. Their Hammer shirts are alright. I haven’t tried their hoodies. ❤️🌈

    I would rather use rubber bands. I can’t control the string it gets too loose and makes spots, and only tried sinew once I just need to practice more and more but I think I will be like you and always like rubber bands the most.

      I’m all about rubber bands. I like sinew too. No matter how much I practice with string it always seems to make a mess. Plus I can reuse the rubber bands. I think it’s a win win! ❤️🌈

    Rubber bands then sinew lightly wrapped. Kite string baffles me

      It does? I personally avoid kite string because I find it tedious. 😂❤️🌈

      @@BelladonnaDyesCo I can’t control my tension. I try to “go zen” but I must be pulling on shirts. It all ends up a loopy mess I call string monster.

    You really should be wearing a mask while applying both the dye and soda ash! You could get sensitised to the dye and then develop bad reactions to it later on!
