    USC offers a dental hygiene to DDS pathway: dentistry.usc.edu/programs/dental-hygiene/dh-dds/. I guess you'd save a couple years, but considering how crazy the tuition is at USC, I don't know whether you'd be saving any money.

    • @bgates275
      @bgates275 7 лет назад +1

      Crazy, assuming I added everything properly, the total costs of going this route is $ 653,933 USD. There has to be a cheaper way than this.

    The way you explain things is perfect! I will most definitely give you a subscription and tell the pre-dents from my undergrad about your channel, especially considering the school you go to and the special connection we have with it. Again, great job!

    To become a dental hygienist the 4 basic years of undergrad then 2 in graduate? And to become a dentist 4 undergrad, then another 4 in graduate? I'm going into my senior year in high school and just changed my mind about what I want to do. I've been doing a lot of research but I am quite confused on the difference between dentist and dental hygienist education.

    Hi Brittany, so I just met with an orthodontist I asked to shadow, and although I enjoyed it, I felt like I had no purpose because all I could really do was stand and watch, and I ended up asking a lot of questions, but that was really it. I just felt like almost a bother being there, which made me feel awkward lol, SO, i'm planning to get my certificate in dental assisting, while I'm still a full time student, the one I want to complete is an online program that I'm planning to do over summer, this way I could be more involved and just really be hands on, do you think this would be a good idea? Why or why not? :)
    Thank you!!
    xoxo

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 лет назад +1

      I definitely know what you mean about just standing there and feeling awkward! Yeah but that is pretty much there is to it! I think it's a great idea if you want to get some experience in dental assisting. That would be awesome!

    Hi Brittany, I'm currently a senior in high school and about to commit to a college, I was just wondering if it matters which school I chose for undergrad? Also I heard that u can't become a doctor/ dentist if u didn't take any AP classes in High school, is that true? Thank u!

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  6 лет назад +2

      Hi! The undergrad you go to doesn't matter. I would go to the school which gives me the best chance of getting the highest gpa possible since dental schools mainly look at gpa and dat score. I don't think the AP class thing is true but it would really help if you took AP classes to build a strong foundation for the college level courses.

    • @florencetam2830
      @florencetam2830 6 лет назад

      Brittany Watu okay Thank u so much!😊 And I heard some people get accepted to dental school by their 2nd or 3rd year of undergrad, do u know how they do that? Did they just take all the required courses?

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  6 лет назад +1

      Hmm not sure, that could be a possibility! Most schools require a Bachelors at least

      Okay Thank you Brittany! One last question, so it doesn't matter if I chose to major in biology for undergrad in a university that is known for business rather than a University know for their science programs?

      @brittanywatu4835  6 лет назад

    Hi Brittany! I will soon apply to an undergraduate program ( I live in canada) before getting into dentistry. I'm really confused on what to take, but for now Im thinking about pharmacology (my first choice) or behavorial neuroscience. The thing is I see a lot of dental students who have accomplished GREAT things in their lives. Like attending prestigious colleges, getting honors, sports, study aboard, reaserch, even military! And all that besides having good grades, having a good personnality and make enough hours of shadowing/volunteering. I dont know if I'm overthinking, but if thats what it takes to get into dent then its kinda scary. But idk it seems that you have to accomplish a lot great things in order to get into dental school. You have to be a "superstar" :( what did you do before getting in? And your classmates? Thank you so much for replying. I love your videos #notificationsquad :) xx

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 лет назад +1

      No, you definitely don't have to do "great" things but try to be well rounded in your extracurricular activities!

    Hi Britney! I'm in grade 11 and live in Canada. You're videos are super helpful to me because I'm really set on becoming a dentist. I have a few questions.. what advice would you give for starting university in a new city. And how to not be over whelmed with all the homework you'll get and what are labs vs research projects with teachers? And what looks good on a resume? I know it's a lot but thanks so much It would really help

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Sophia :) I think when starting university in a new city it's important to maybe get together with some new friends to study together and explore and get to know the city. I think it will be less intimidating or scary with some friends around! For homework and projects, I like to stay organized by using my planner/agenda to plan out the time I have to study or get the work done. By doing that, it takes a lot of pressure off and I get less overwhelmed. A lot of my science classes that I took in university had labs with them and they are required as part of the course. Doing research with professors, at least to my understanding, is not required, but looks good in terms of involvement for a resume etc.
      Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

    I've been taking college classes in high school and I'll have an associates next year when i graduate from high school and my college GPA is a 3.5. Would I be to young to be considered for dental school since by the time I finish my nursing major and dental prerequisites undergrad, I would only be 19 years old. How many dental schools should I apply to? Love your videos btw.

      @brittanywatu4835  7 лет назад +2

      +MrCreaturesFan I don't think it matters, just as long as you have at least a bachelors. Maybe interviewers will ask you about your age but if you present yourself as professional and mature, it will be fine!

      @brittanywatu4835  7 лет назад +4

      +James P Honestly, I think it would be best to have a relaxing summer before first year starts because dental school is such a physical mental and emotional journey. However, if you really want to do something, you could brush up on your physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, any subjects that you were shaky on. Another thing is that if you can, learn study skills so you can better learn efficiently once you are in dental school.

    Brittany, is that true if your dads a dentist they will doubt your willing to become one?
    I was at Pitt dental school and they said not to tell my dad is a dentist on interview.
    It actually is the biggest reason why I wanna be a dentist.
    Thanks for your videos ❤

      +marta kkent I know plenty of people in my class whose parent is a dentist. I think there is nothing wrong with mentioning it as long as you put emphasis on how your parent inspired you rather than make it seem like they "forced you" into. also make sure to talk about your "own" reasons why you want to be a dentist.
