2 People Dead As Wildfires Scorch 1,400 Structures In New Mexico, Residents Warned Of Flash Floods

- At least two people have died and thousands more evacuated in New Mexico due to wildfires. According to New Mexico Governor, the wildfire has damaged about 1400 structures in the area, including 500 homes. Grisham has requested a major disaster declaration from US President Joe Biden for the South Fork and Salt fires. The governor also declared a state of emergency in the Lincoln County and the Mescalero Apache Reservation due to the two wildfires. The Governor also requested people who have been evacuated or received evacuation orders to “not return until you are cleared to do so.” Watch the video to find out more.

Yes they did they drove thru with a bull horn and sirens. This fire blew up so very fast no one had time. I live in New Mexico and with 50 mph wind gusts fires grow fast.
Cell coverage went out early mine went about 1.15 didn't get back until somewhere between mountains and tularosa, I hit i70 about 1.30 took a picture it was still a plume not a firestorm, that was when I saw the first response. A couple of FD SUVs, the only official traffic I saw on the highway was a couple of FD panel trucks and a bunch of cops. Nothing as I drove through town.
The fire started one morning and by that evening, it was big. There were no "days" to ready, set, go.
Left town at 1.30 pm heading towards tulie, first response I saw or heard was when I pulled onto US70 2 FD SUVs , took a picture of first big plume,, cell was out until I got out of the mountains, didn't see any large equipment at all just a couple of FD panel trucks and a lot of state cops. Something went really wrong, guessing RFD didn't have backup when cell failed. Word locally is arson, cell outage may have been deliberate.
Yes but it gave you time to get some important things and paperwork. and then 6:53 go to safety. Stuff is just stuff. I am not going to be heartbroken because I am thankful my sister is alive. I appreciate the fighter fighters and the volunteers.
@@frank-mp3bqI live in Rio Rancho and heard all 5 fires were lightning i certainly hope it wasn’t arson that’d be horrendous. Prayers for all y’all.
My sister lives in Ruidoso. She saw the smoke and started collecting her things. She even packed snacks and drinks and now is safe.
Everyone had time to evacuate; hope your Sister as able to keep everything she worked hard for. Wish her AND THE PEOPLE IN THE RUIDOSO AREA WELL; I Have friends there also. I'm praying for them and a good soaking light rain from Mother Nature!
I live also in new Mexico and they had plenty of warning now for ones who did not listen and left late that on them !!! not the system
Cell failed, not enough backup l live here too, and I was there, RFD has been sucking hind tit for years and it shows. This was a leadership failure as well.
God bless South Texas for taking the brunt of Alberto. We needed the moisture from that storm here in New Mexico. In Jesus Christ amen.

I’ve lived thru several fires near us here in NM. They are terrifying and move so very fast. Trees are beautiful but build a defensible space and build smart with fire resistant materials. Prayers for Ruidoso and all impacted.

Those that said "They didn't have enough time" Please remember that Wild fires are unpredictable and extremely dangerous. The residents of Ruidoso live in a forest; They've delt with fires their whole lives. The City suffered from fires last year and will again in the future. If anybody wants to blame officials, I would suggest They LOOK IN A MIRROR!
With that said, I feel for the people of Ruidoso and the surrounding area. I've been there several times, it's beautiful, that's why the residents chose to live there. Just as in any other mountain community, living with Wild Fires is a choice!
Years ago, I had a girlfriend who grew up in Los Alamos, NM. Her parents live there when the CERRO GRANDE FIRE burned a good portion of that beautiful town I hope those effected will rebuild and hope their lived will return to normal. I'M VERY SORRY FOR THEIR LOSS.😢😊
