He didn't like society so he left and hiked all over America for 2years, his main goal was to get to Alaska and he did, finding the bus, in which he stayed in for the next 100 days, he said in his diary , which they found on the bus, that he knew he was dying as he couldn't get enough calories from foraging and in 1 of the pictures you could see he was getting skinny, his main goal the whole time was to be happy and on the selfie he took before he died he waved at the camera and held a note which basically said that he was happy. even though he knew he was gonna die he was still happy, a famous quote from him found in his diary was " happiness is only real when shared"
To me that would mean don't go and be a loner inside of your life take somebody with you because being alone and trying to do everything on your own will not fulfill your happiness and what you were searching because happiness and love is meant to be shared you can learn all this from the great book called The Bible
Happiness is only real when shared that should tell you everything right there he wasn’t happy before he died he was miserable he wasn’t there to share it with anyone so it wasn’t real
Yeah, these RUclipsrs are idiotic with how they will literally degrade someone’s persona to make their video look relevant. This guys just another person wanting to make money making crap videos.
As an avid adventurer, the fact that Chris didn't venture out to find the tram or the cabin during his 4 months there tells me something important. He was likely already starving when he got there.
In one of his sister's interview she said he used to think like "When you know what is next that is actually not an adventure" so that could be the reason he didn't carried maps and all..
The solo trip was fine. The problem comes when people refuse to educate themselves about the area that they are living in. Apparently he had a book on the plants in the area which ones were poisonous and parts were poisonous to eat but didn’t bother to double check that information before he harvested. The arrogance that I see right now among foragers well no doubt result in more death and suffering
A million years ago, natural selection removed those unwise foragers from the gene pool. Today, any idiot can get deadly food poisoning, and if they can get to the hospital in time, they get their stomach pumped. For the most part, stupidity is no longer deadly.
@@lil_pho4real why are you surprised lol you can learn on the go, in public life as well as the back country. RUclipsrs and their lack of experiences in these environments boggles my mind when you can HEAR the judgement in your voice.. as if you have experience in the backcountry. Go out and do something like this before you even THINK about judging what he was like or turning his story into YOUR profit. Fucking idiots dude.
@@lil_pho4real and you have not read the book nor watched the movie, that is not the point of his trip. To be honest though i dont really blame you because its a lot of information for just one short but it is a wonderful read; “into the wild”
I've read a lot about him and yes, he was very unprepared to live in the wild. But he lived how he wanted to live and for that I respect him. Had he taken sufficient supplies with him and his map, he may have survived and today he could've been a blogger.
Idea may be seemed worst to many people but what you tell about the immense happiness and lifetime achivement in his life.. That's life..Do as you with your life..
While watching the movie i was thinking "Just walk downstream next to the river bro, you'll find a village where you can pass through to get to the other side of the river" Because that's usually the case all around the planet. It sucks that he didn't do enough research about surviving in the wild, he could've lived a very long (and still happy) life.
Just because you see a smile doesn’t mean he was happy. People wear masks everyday. what makes his smiling pictures any different from the ppl who who smile through depression then out of nowhere they unlivin themselves and everyone around is confused as to why they did it bc to the world they were always happy/smiling.
Fuck working. Humans did not evolve to spend their hours toiling for pennys and selling their lives to corporate greed. We were once explorers and adventurers, inverters and scholars. Now this modern society is such a cesspit it’s not worth staying within it.
So many misconceptions on this guy. One, he wanted to go back home. They often talk of the highway that was "only 20 miles away" ignoring that highway is on the other side of the river he couldnt cross. Ive also heard the "tram" might have already been dilapidated by the point he was there. Three, some locals are pretty sure he did go to the ranger cabins and got what he could...
The solo trip wasnt a bad Idea , but he had verry less and unusual planning, which one must not do in the wild. Our ancestors lived in and by the wild and they were very good survival plan makers. and yea a compass in Alaska is a must need the summer and winter day cycles are fck*d up in there.
If he didn’t die and managed to keep surviving, that’s the life I’m all about! Maybe visiting family every once in a while (family always matters more then anything) but overall just chilling in Alaska away from society! That’s the life
I need to dig up and repot my Strawberries 🍓 tomorrow.... wish me luck boys! Hope they survive the transfer and live in their future Strawberry pot. Much Love YT ❤️. You should always carry two compasses in my opinion I try to make sure that I double up if I’m going out into the forest to make sure I know my way out. It just seemed to me like he just wasn’t prepared for anything and that’s the sad part and I am surprised that he lasted four months. Taking a solo trip on a whim and not really being prepared can lead up to what happened to him this is a sad story anyway you look at it
If you cant see any good that came from his journey then you have an extremely small mind. Sure he died. He also LIVED. His short life was better then some people still breathing
People earn the Darwin Award by being stupid. The kid was not suffering; he chose to live out there without learning anything before the trip. He poached a moose and let all of the meat rot because he never even learned how to smoke meat to preserve it. With some minimal knowledge he could have thrived, at least before winter. Instead, he ate some vetch like an actual idiot and died from all the toxins. In a note he wrote, he was begging his god for help; if there is a god, it can't fix idiocy.
Reword what you said. It was his best idea ever, specifically given how happy it made him, specifically how he had the courage to go against what everyone else wanted for him, chasing what he wanted, despite the challenges. It was a fantastic solo trip, with bad preparation and planning.
So many people romanticize this tragic misadventure. Some people think that Chris was a hero while others think that he was a fool. He wasn't suicidal. His mistakes were. Sad.
Potato seeds which are abundant there caused some weird sickness that makes you weak dude had big balls no way I'm going out in the middle of nowhere Alaska if he wouldn't have found the bus wonder if he would have ever been found?

Also read John Krakauer’s book about him it’s called into the wild
Well said

Thank you
Yea it was. But would have a bit more smarter in the way of living.
Some people say cucumbers taste better pickled
He lived more free then people working 9 to 5
As an avid adventurer, the fact that Chris didn't venture out to find the tram or the cabin during his 4 months there tells me something important. He was likely already starving when he got there.
It’s sad but he was smiling in every photo he took and even in his last one he was smiling he found peace that’s all he needed
he had more balls than 99% of people out there
More balls than brains. I'll take brains any day

He was very reckless but at the point where he ate the berries he was beginning to starve to death so he was looking for anything to eat
The river wasn’t frozen when he crossed it. The river was shallow, when he went to cross it again the water was too deep for him to cross.
Could it not be possible to jump in and try to swim downstream across?
I don’t think it was a bad decision at all.
Dying of starvation is never a good idea
It isn't. Just some idiots expressing their unasked expertise. They won't even leave the person who is already dead.😂
Be a slave to society or die free in the wilderness? Ill choose the latter every time.

He died from starvation I think or lack of protein.
Not lack, he only had protein and nothing to process it with (probably) coz he was basically eating just squirrel/rabbit
He was eating poisonous plants that make you lose weight..
Read Carlene McCandless' book
Dude he was on the road for 2 years. After 2 years he decided to go back to civilisation. The 4 months were only spent in alaska
Bro I am here for school😂
It was the BEST IDEA EVER!!!
Mmmm nah it was a great idea
What matters it was not dumb to him
Captain Hindsight much?
If he had just bought like 50 pounds of rice with the money he burnt and kept a compass he would’ve been just fine
He probably thought it was the best idea. Not everyone follows according to your perception of reality bud
