1898 was when my paternal grandmother was born. Her and my grandfather were married shortly after his return from the end of WW1. I guess what I’m getting at is her new coat with the fancy buttons. She had been so proud until a bird flew over and ruined it with bird poop that stained it. She saved the buttons and would show my cousin and I when we spent summers with them. Oh how I wish I had them now.
Dear Margreth (and dear Daisy 💗), thank you so much for your being such a gifted creator/ maker and sharing with us your crafty adventures ❣ Concerning the acetate butterfly: I use Glossy Accents quite successfully for glueing acetate, metals and other items having a smooth surface... sending LOVE to you and your loved ones 🥰
Girrrrl … Bravo, I foresee many of us in the junk journaling community adding your “how to use those cute but otherwise useless shank buttons” to our to do list. Not easy coming up with something so newish and useful. You might not be the first person to ever try this but … it’s not something most of us would have thought of on our own. I’m doing the 100 day project over at The Eclectic Cottage … I’ll likely give this a try during the challenge/project. Happy Monday my friend.
Ladybug 🐞, you are awesome. As I learn from your videos, I am impressed with your step by step. You make mistakes and don't stop camera feed and show how to make easy fixes. Thank you from Spokane, Washington state. ❤
WOW!WOW!!! Love this paperclip, tab. It's simply the best better than all the rest. Thank you so much for showing and sharing this idea with us. Blessings 💕
I just recently found my button collection and was wondering what to do with them. When my grams passed, I got the collection, so it's special to me, but I really don't need a few hundred buttons. I've made clothing for my cousins children with them, for my own children and I have a plan to use several on a blanket I'm making. Thanks for the video, very serendipitous timing. I have a use for many of those beautiful old buttons.
I love how these turned out. Also love your method without all the folding ... I always get confused with the folding. These are so cute!! Thank you for sharing. PS I too have purchased resale shop items just for the buttons! 🙂
What an absolutely awesome and inspiring project using shank buttons! I have a ton of these type of buttons as I ended up with my grandmother's and mother's button tins. They are rather large tins of buttons, and I have been using buttons from there quite a bit, but I hadn't really figured out a way to use these metal shank buttons in a journal. This is just the right project . And I have to tell you these hidden paper clips with the tab is way more beautiful than other hidden paper clips that I have seen because of the tabs and the dangles. I can't wait to make a bunch of them to have on hand. In fact as I've been watching this video I I've been looking at buttons so I can have some sorted out to use tomorrow. By the way, a dental floss threader ( loke you use to thread dental floss under bridgework for your teeth in your mouth) works quite well to thread thin cording or threads through holes, and it is much tougher and cheaper than a thread threader because it is made out of a tougher plastic. We use them all the time in my rosary making group to pull the thin cording through beads and it takes quite a while before the threader breaks. Many people loose them before they break.😂😅😊
I absolutely love the hidden paper clips with the dangles. Great quick project that looks beautiful in a journal. I definitely wii be making these with the buttons and dangle. I love your gorgeous button collection. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Just found this wonderful video. I've watched several hidden paperclip videos and this is absolutely the easiest version and yet it has very interesting elements. Thank so much.😉
A tab on a tab.. I laughed so hard, because I couldn't help but think, ya, we'd do something like that.. only in the junk journal world.. thank you so much for this tutorial - I LOVE THIS! Perfect way to use shank buttons, and THIS method for hidden paperclips I can do! Love the idea of using bulb pins for the charms/dangles! And if you ever needed to take your button or charm off, it would be easy peasy.. I love that! A thousand times - Thank you for sharing this!! :-)
I love watching your videos!!. I always learn something inspiring AND you make me giggle. I know I will always have a fun time watching your channel. Thank you for sharing your work with us ❤❤❤
Hello Margreth 😊 very beautiful and lovely ❤ like you i have a big buttons collection and i am sure i made one for my junk journal for next week 😊❤ ! Thank you so much Margreth ! Have a good saturday !
Absolutely love these! I am making a December Daily, this will work.. and can make them a bookmark for stocking stuffers.. Thank you for this simple cute idea!
Oh this is perfect I have a double shank button (probably not the correct name) from my Mother’s nurses uniform from 1947. I have always wondered how to display it/use it in my journal. This will be fabulous. Perhaps a mini photo of her in the uniform for decoration?
I've just discovered your channel, and this is the first video I watched. I am hooked! Thank you for sharing your craft! I will be binge watching past videos 😀😍
So happy I found you - so many amazing ideas! And entertaining, too ... "are you okay needle threader?" 🤣🤣 Thank you for the detailed instructions; can't wait to make some of these!
Loved this! Going to hunt out my, my, mum's, and even some from my granny's collection of shank buttons! Having a 'movable' (not so decorated) tab for separating my stamps and die sets, also seems a good idea...for the moment anyway, and decorated ones, for my other stuff still waiting to be finished off.... one day! 😊
Those are fantastic!! Watching you has turned into a collaboration of sorts, in that I find myself saying “yes that looks good; no the other way; don’t forget to ink….etc! So in a way your channel is making me crazy, lol!!! Love, love these…so versatile! Thank you for teaching us such awesome content!!
Enjoyed watching this with my little granddaughter (3months). We’ve been watching each morning. Thanks for your videos!! I like watching the process 😊❤
What a great way to use these type of buttons. You know what they're called by now😊. I have some plastic embellishments, from years ago, with a shank that I have never known how to use until now. Thanks for the idea. ❤ Your hidden paperclips are fabulous. ❤
I just recently found your channel! Love it! You are such a joy to watch. I am in process of going back and watching your previous videos. I watched Part 1 of your Q&A video from a year ago. What an amazing video and so interesting to hear about you and your life. I am looking forward to watching Part 2 of it. You are such a lovely person and so happy to have found your channel. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas in your videos, they are truly an inspiration. I am from the US and of course love to hear your beautiful accent.
Could make them a little bigger and use them as a bookmark maybe, the buttons are a perfect touch. These are very cool. Thanks again for sharing. Have a lovely day.
I just want to thank you for your videos. I’m new to this craft and your tutorials and the way you explain how to do things has been invaluable! Love love love your content. ❤️
I just recently found your videos and I love watching you and all your lovely creations! Those buttons with the anchors or crest are from military uniforms !
Shank buttons is what I have always called these kind of buttons. I have been successful in cutting off the shank with using the cutting tool I use with plastic canvass craft. But I love your use of the shank buttons with this projects!!! 44:38
❤These are fabulous!!! I absolutely love the look. I also especially like that you’ve shown us a way to use those shank buttons. Just wonderful…THANKS!❤ PS - what is the brand name of that stamp set???
I use a floss threader like you used the needle threader, Margreth. It is a dental floss threader so you get 5-10 in a package so when you break one, it isn't a big loss. This project is adorable! I had to try it as soon as I saw it. Thanks for sharing!
One can use a old gift card or expired credit card as a bone folder. I have had to do that when I can't find my bone folder. My grandmother would get out her huge collection of buttons, and let her granddaughters spend hours stringing them onto button thread, making jewelry.
I love your buttons, as I have collection also. The shank {yes, that is what they are} buttons can be held on with small cotter pins. I don"t know how hard it is to find them that tiny. I had thought of trying to use them with a glue gun as wax seals. I purchased some glue sticks with glitter in them and thought it may be very pretty.
Oh man! I just passed over a bag of beautiful shank buttons at the thrift store because I couldn't figure out what to do with them. Maybe they will still be there on Satuday.
Ho I was looking through my buttons like lunatic 🤣🤣🤣, what a great idea margreth, I've usually thrown them in a jar on there own as I didn't know what to to with them, but now they will be used thank you lovey 🥰😘
I just recently subscribed to your channel, I love your videos. I was wondering whether you have used a shank button as a book cover closure. I was trying to figure out how to do it with an elastic cord.
Yes, shank buttons! You can also just slide them onto a paper clip until you get to the top bend and add some lace, for a bookmark type clip. The button then is at the top edge of your journal.
I use these shank buttons quite often for journal fasteners where you push the shank through a small hole and apply a small amount of wire through the shank on the inside. You can then use it for tying to. I also find the shank is easy to remove using wire cutters 😊
Miss Margreth, as you know by now it's called a shank. Miss Natasa from Treasure Books uses shank buttons all the time, but she does use plastic shank buttons and snaps off the shank and glues them to her projects. But then again you probably knew that too. Love your ideas on this project. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you and your family. 🥰💖💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟(🌹🐞🦂🌵)
You did it again another wonderful idea, with a twist, love it, I have a few buttons like that and now I know how tom use, thank you so much for sharing, big hugs and kisses to the cats.
