How are the natural hairs extracted? Do the animal die?
I wouldn’t mind animal hair brushes if I know the animal is ok.

Nah, they're killed and the rest of the carcass is used for other purposes.

Animals are killed to get the hair. It's not like they get a haircut.

Very cool! I have had the struggle with my brushes and have worn some out fighting with them. Link says they are out of stock so I guess I will have to wait. Thanks Mike!! ❤

Hi Marion, There seems to be a mistake on the Amazon landing page, the brushes are not out of stock. If you click through to the actual product page, you can order the set no problem! Apologies for any confusion! We definitely have someone looking into getting that fixed.

Interesting. I couldn’t find this brush label in boesner nor in gerstaecker listings (they are the biggest German art stores) and also I am unable to find any mention of the firm producing them on the internet, I was assuming ofc they will at least have a website AND be present in the home market. Might be they rebranded the brushes for USA?

    • @gunsmokeandghouls

Pretty sure it's exclusive to Jerrysartarama.

Hi PPDD, The Hamburg Brushes are handmade in Germany by a brushmaker that has been making brushes since the 18th century! These specific brushes were developed as a partnership between Jerry's and the brushmaker and after many rounds of brainstorming, testing and refining, were made available exclusively through Jerry's Artarama retail stores and JerrysArtarama.com.

@@JerrysArtarama thank you, i guess i understand now, the brand is actually called "Creative Mark" and it is not an European brand, I could only find mentions of it on Walmart and us amazon. And "Hamburg premier" is actually the name of the brush series (thus it's not findable in Germany despite being made there, which I find deeply confusing but well, globalization does what globalization does best). Sadly it's way to expensive and bad for environment for me personally to buy those from you and then ship it back to Germany :D

@@gunsmokeandghouls it was a misunderstanding on my part, I thought It was german brushes - as in german brand imported to US. The brand is not exclusive, (also amazon lists the "hamburg" series as well, but not the hand made ones) :)

Hullo Mike, I have most of the brushes I need for the different types of painting I am currently creating, I do care for my brushes quite nicely. I have a question about the Chelsea Lavender spike oil products? I want to use them with my water soluble oil paints, I have not been able to find an answer to this question, well anywhere! I know Emmy your Artist in residence has the question as well. I figured the cleaners would work after using soap and water, but what about the mediums? LEAN & FAT? Or the ultra refined linseed oil? Can they be used with impunity? OR do I maintain that 30% by volume mixing ratio for mixing in traditional oil paints to keep my water solubility? I am thankful for any help you can provide. Thank you for sharing all of these Artists problem videos!

Yes, you can add them to water mixable oils, however as you add more regular oil paint/medium to water mixable oil paint/medium the less cleanable they are with water. I think you can add up to 30% and still be able to mostly clean up with soap and water.

@@MikeNotJerry Thanks! I have watched the short video clips that you made featuring the spike oil supplies, I have asked your weekly Jerry’s live group for a session showing the Chelsea sample set and it’s use with water soluble oil paints, even with comparing the lavender products with traditional oil paints and water soluble oil paints, just showing the viewers that you can use the Chelsea products to avoid the toxic petroleum based solutions, or maybe that is a topic you might re-visit? I have been struggling to find any examples of artists that use the Chelsea products and water soluble oil paints? I figure it may be best to use the mediums for each brand, yet I wonder if they all might be used with the Lavender spike oil products? I have also only found thinner in the W&N Artisian paints, not COBRA, or Holbein water soluble oil paints. I hope your intrigued and I hope you consider doing a video or two yourself! I rather enjoy watching your videos, thanks Mike! Have a wonderful day!

I live in Hawaii where mongooses live by the thousands! They are dead on the road all the time. Why are they labeled endangered? They are as plentiful as rats!
