He was my favorite F1 pilot. Senna level talent in a single lap(once won 5 straight pole positions against prime Michael Schumacher in maybe the best Ferrari ever), but lacking in other aspects needed for consistent wins in the race.
Pastor was fast, but he couldn't get the chip off his shoulder. Driving the way he did, only caused problems. A different take on it, think about everyone who he wronged... now image what was likely to happen each time they met on track. Multiply that by each driver and its actually crazy he didn't have more accidents.

The real sign of a dominant car is its second driver. If the second driver does well it's a dominant car. Ralf Shuchmacher had an incredibly difficult time with that car.

But politics from BMW to priotice Ralf cause he was german, conflicts between Williams and BMW and the Michelin gate meant that they could not win the title.
This proves one thing: F1 drivers are supernaturals. Montoya is a long time retired F1 driver, ran in Nascar for a few years, and now runs prototypes. Even in the down part of his career, he is a better racer than all those kids that are in the simulators. Even better than young talents, like Fittipaldi, that are trying to reach F1. To just reach F1, you MUST be not only above average, you must be above the best of the best, and to be a race or championship winner, you must be at the top of the top level drivers. And JPM won some races and made his mark at F1 (top of the tops).

Damn I know Juan is fast with anything with a steering wheel but I did not think he would win in this sim race. I did not think he had enough time behind the sim to be able to beat more experience sim racers. Man did he proved me wrong. Three of those guys run gokarts and are fast on there own. JPM isnt just a formula 1 driver he raced NASCAR IndyCar and Prototypes and has had success in every series truly a multitalented driver who has seen success in multiple disciplines.
Where, exactly, was he 'successful' in NASCAR? He won a couple of road course races (as you might expect for an ex-F1 driver) over the course of several years, but he did absolutely nothing noteworthy anywhere else other than running into a jet dryer at Daytona.

Formula 1 racers basically grow up into racing from winning the championship in karts into winning the championship in various classes. They invested tons of time to be at the top of the world. When they 'also' become F1 champion it's like having an elo rating of 2100 in Chess and meeting Kasparov or Carlsen. There is an illusion of a chance but reality puts you on the ground.
Wow, I really didnt expect one of the real drivers to win, but that says a lot about the wheels and quality of the sim that its becoming so similar, a pro driver feels comfortable enough that quickly. I have races GTSport/GranTurismo series since the late 90s. I am often the top of the country/continent in lap times. I think I need to get over to AC and Iracing though

He won Indy 500 coming from the back of the field, held the fastest F1 lap in history during 14 years, won in Monaco, Monza, Silverstone, Hockenheim and Interlagos, won 3 times the Daytona 24H, is the current champion of the IMSA Championship and that kid still didn't hope him to win? Boy, you've just earned a lesson of reality, real life racing is always harder than a simulator. 😉😉

It's a credit to the game developers really as if it was unrealistic then the gamer would thrash the real race driver but as its such a realistic sim the race drivers skills are still relevant.
APM M He was a finalist in one of the gaming leagues. I think part of their reward if they win it is to drive a real race car on a test. I think that’s what he meant.
A few manufacturers have a sim to IRL program, I know Nissan was definitely one of first a few years ago to move a sim racer from online to the 24 hours lineup at Spa. Lando Norris also was a big sim racer before he signed with Renault. I'm sure that guy's been in at least one big boy race as a result of his esports career - which I can say with 100% certainty is more than you can say.
Awesome simulator, I am curious to know how sensitive it is to the real thing. Or maybe we could install a master cylinder on the simulator in order to adjust the response and hydraulic resistance that accrue within the temperature changes, car to down force resistance. Curious to know how much adjustment the driver has to personalizing setup.
Of coarse F1 drivers past and present have a lot of experience with sims. I saw one recently and it looked bloody difficult to drive, as it should be if you're trying to simulate an F1 car.

I think the unsung heros here are the game designers. Simply due to the fact that if the real race car drivers are able to obtain an edge and win the game, then the programmed aspects of the game must be very realistic.

@@StreetComp No,It was a mixture of things. Why Schumacher destroyed the opposition is because of a neutral chassis, particularly 2004. If you read about his driving style, you'll understand, he was was on a knives edge every lap.

Obviously there was an issue, I find it hard to believe that Ferrari would be lapped as had occurred in Hungary, so the front michelins must have been 8mm or so wider.
