Just a tip when painting doors, insert 4 screws 1 near each corner top and bottom and let those rest on your saw horses, then your able to flip the door and paint both sides at the same time.
1 1/8” is the magic measurement from the drywall to your cut. The escutcheon and stop will butt up to each other. Also, that speed cutter doesn’t cut the stub outs properly because its soft copper. Those are meant for rigid 👍🏻
To paint doors, I put 2 screws in the top and bottom edges of the door. Then I can flip the door and paint both sides the same time as the door is resting on the screws not the painted surface. Works great and half’s the painting time.
Search online for a toilet called a sloan flush mate. They use your water pressure to fill a tank within the tank that expels under pressure. I've used them for 17 years and only replaced one of the three that I have installed. Good luck and great job! Enjoy your videos.
Very cool! We installed the exact same vinyl planking in our upstairs bathroom 2 years ago. Extremely happy with it. Also installed the silicone toilet gasket. No problems at all. thanks for a trip down memory lane. Yes the measuring and cutting of the flooring around the fixtures is a trip!
I loved this episode. Honestly it felt so wholesome and sweet. I've been watching you two for a long time now and I look forward to each and every video. This episode warmed my heart, it feels like one day we will be having more tool reviews and daily land upkeep videos because your house will be done. I am so happy for the both of you.
I've been plumbing for 50 years and have lost count of how many toilets I've installed. This is the first time I've seen one of those closet seals, I guess you're never to old to learn new tricks. Good job!
Cutting the copper pipe is another good use for your vibrating tool, particularly after scoring with the little round cutter that doesn’t quite finish. Also did not see you reaming out the copper pipes after cutting. This is recommended even when not soldering to reduce water flow restrictions.
I absolutely love watching your videos! I’m enjoying my coffee and I see the little things and resist commenting on them. It will make for more dramatic future episodes I’m sure. Thanks so much for sharing.
Looks like a dusting of snow under where you where painting! And Bugaboo sounded like he was telling you he was hungry when you took out the door to paint again! Great job on the flooring guys! You are teaching so much stuff to so many people about building your home...as a woman after watching the video several times I think I could do some of the jobs myself too without always relying on my husband! Good job of teaching Jesse!
It is amazing the amount of tasks accomplished by you guys, I just discovered your channel, I consider myself a “Do it all” person and the way I got to your channel was because of the plane, I am also a pilot, you guys are really an inspiring couple. Keep up the good work, and keep up on posting.
I used this flooring throughout my house actually.. its pretty decent. Does go down easy.. easy to cut as well. I have dogs and their claws don't scratch them up, but they do clickity clack on them.
I used that same flooring in my kitchen and it separated a bit at the seams, I do renovations for a living so not a newbie. I have since done glue down vinyl planks with much better results.
I switched to Shark bite's as my water has a lot of acid and after you replace a cople times the commpression fiting lesks sndd will not vome off the pipe.
It did my heart a power of good seeing Jessie trying to fight back a grin when Alyssa had to admit trimming a floor panel "to the opposite hand". Hi Alyssa - welcome to the club. All of us - people who actually do and make things - have been caught out like that. They say it's good for the soul - "Liars!" For those who are still to use a compression fitting on 1/2" copper pipe - a couple of observations. .. - after trimming the pipe to length - de-burr the inner edge. That rotating cutter swages the pipe smaller so the bore becomes measurably smaller. Not too critical on larger sized piping but the percentage reduction in bore area on 1/2" is noticeable on low head installations. - when installing the fitting onto the pipe - slide on the nut, slide on the olive (age-old name for that "wide wedding ring"), push the fitting onto the pipe - using it to push the olive further onto the pipe - push until the shoulder inside the fitting bottoms against the pipe - now run the nut onto the fitting until it just feathers against the olive, make a mark on the pipe against the nut and withdraw the assembled-but-not-tightened fitting 1/8" to ensure some clearance between the shoulder inside the fitting and the end of the pipe. Now tighten up the nut to "first contact plus half-a-turn". That 1/8" withdrawal is the important step in making a non-leaking compression joint - it allows the fitting to move towards the olive when you are tightening the nut - ensuring that both ends of the olive are fully swaged against the pipe. cheers all - edi
It's going to be so great living in your house soon! I have counter tops in the apartment where I'm living right now that are also flush with the draw fronts like on your vanity. I have to suggest for the more serious counters and washrooms you avoid that and get counter tops that have an overhang. Like with most modernist design and their fascination of getting rid of useful stuff, an overhang actually has a good purpose. One: to avoid dripping stuff all down the face of your cabinetry, and two: to make it easier to clean and maintain the counter top itself. After living with it for a couple of years I would never ever willfully choose to have flush cut counter tops for anything.
Loads of victories! We also have this flooring in 2 places. The first one was installed in a medium use room 12 years ago, we love it. Good job - almost time to move in!
Actually, the vinyl sheet goods they sell at HD and Lowes is pretty easy to lay down. I first dry fitted by cutting oversize. Layed it down in the room and trimmed it the walls etc. then rolled it back over itself, spread the glue and layed it into the glue.
Actually you completed 6 tasks in this episode when you add painting and installing the door. A job well done, I’d heard about those silicone toilet rings, but never saw one installed until this video. Great job for both of you. Needing to reinstall some of the flooring is a very common thing for any DIY’er, including my wife and me. That’s another reason why we all buy the 10-15% more material whenever we purchase any construction supply item. You will really feel like you’ve reached a major milestone when all the electrical is completed and you move into the garage. For the winter weather, you may want to consider adding a small enclosed area around the “man-door” so that you don’t lose all your heat when you go out or come in. Think of it as a mini-shelter area or a plastic tent that you walk through to access the door. We’ve done that in some of the homes we built and it can be easily created with scrap lumber and plastic tarps or sheeting.
Nice floor. Jesse, it’s really cool you’re showing Alyssa how to do a lot of these things. Thanks for explaining. I’ve heard other people think toilets needed electricity, too, but I did have to LOL.😁👍❤️Good for you guys!
Just to let you guys know I have had that exact toilet for about 8 or 9 years now. The reason I bought this toilet is because it had a small compact tank, dual flush and a 10 out of 10 flush rating. Have had no issues with it. On the flooring, you should add 5 to 10% for scrap. Depending on the size and shape of the room. If you have minimal cuts, 5%. A lot of cuts, 10%. Or... If you mess up... Lol U guys are great. Love the vids.
When doing round cut outs on vinyl do your first several cuts using an awl or scribe. Just a point makes it easy to trace a circle. Once you have a little trough, it helps hold the knife. Or just keep going with the awl and you'll eventually cut through.
Another way to cut a product like this is to use a blade style paper cutter. For the curved cuts have you tried your dewault vibrating too with a narrow blade?
I've done lay down sheet in 3 bathrooms recently. I laid out pieces of rosin paper cutting them to fit all of the walls and cut outs and taped them together making one big piece. I then rolled it up took it into a bigger room laid it down on the piece to cut marked around all of it and cut it. Worked real well.
Back in the good ol' linoleum days I had to install one for mom, which meant coping out the edges in the garage, bringing it in and carefully unrolling it all into place. My drafting skills came in handy on mapping out one giant piece. Mom's hope was not to splice in any traffic areas. I'm happy to say it was a success!
About fell off my chair at the electric comment. Roflmao. You're never going to live THAT one down. The BEST funny of the past 3 years. Lol. Awesome job on the bathroom. It looks great. Nice work!
Best set a flashlight in the bathroom, just in case. You know, Bug-a-Boo might not be able to find the Toilet Paper. LOL Thanks for sharing guys. Stay safe and warm.
I have used this exact flooring in my kitchen, dining room, hall, and bath. Much easier when you find out you can easily cut it with a metal shear (tin snips). Not a bad first install though.
Coming along well. A few questions though... Where are you putting the urinal? Wouldn’t the door opening out create more useful space inside the room? For indoor painting in a huge garage, you can build a quick frame and put cheap clear plastic over it.
Jesse a tip for painting the doors, put 4 long screws in the end of the doors resting them on the top of saw horses then you can flip the doors and paint both sides at the same time. just a tip
My favorite part by far is when he was shaking the silicon toilet ring in front if the camera. Very funny episode! I think toilet installs lend themselves to laughter.
Yup You have to love the low flow water conservation flush 8 times to get rid of the skid marks not worth a crap eco crapper but they do make a good dog water bowl
Your supposed to put the decorative rings as you call them on first, measure, give yourself some room if the valve fails for cutting and replacement before you tighten the compression ring. Now there is now way to install them without cutting the valve off and starting again. If you cut perfect from the start you could be in for it .
Fitting and painting doors, I have found it easier to put two screws in the top and bottom of the door and rest these screws on the saw horses to make it easier to turn over the door when painting the other side, these holes will not be seen and can be filled and touched up later. spray paint outside and just carry them inside to dry.
You can buy stainless steel escutcheons that won't corrode. I like to leave a little more pipe in case that valve needs to be replaced in the future. Something to keep in mind as you finish the rest of the house. Luckily you purchased the good quality valves that will last longer though.
Once upon a time I had a piece of sheet vinyl to put in the bathroom that already had fixtures. I made a paper pattern and use it to cut the vinyl. The vinyl fit perfectly..... Up side down!
You’ll have to keep us updated when you get the radiant floor going, if that solves the (very minor) problem of condensation on the outside of the toilet.
I've painted automobiles and sprayed doors on houses, but never used the short strokes that you are using to spray, is this a new technique that I haven't heard of?
For future reference. Put 2.5" screws into the top and bottom of doors and place the heads of the screws on the saw horses to allow the flipping of the doors to coat both sides more quickly.
Those toilets that are really noisy have a pressurized tank inside instead of just a gravity fed tank. They used to use less water but your toilet was marked with the 1.28gpf which is really close to the pressure fed toilets. The current benefits of a pressurized toilet is no condensation on the water tank. Plus the extra pressure cleans the toilet bowl well each time.
Jet flush would have a pressurized tank in the fill tank. My daughter used to clog my standard toilet, so I switched to a true jet flush and never had a clog after that. They are quite loud in the middle of the night.

Tin Snips would have made some of those cuts much easier. The edges look like they should have been given more of a gap (that gets covered by baseboard). As the temperature changes that floor moves more than one might think and if there is no room at the edges the middle will buckle.
When you spray paint a door next time put 2 nails in the top and 2 in the bottom of edge of door. That way you can let the nails rest on sawhorse and the door will never touch . That way you can spray both sides . You can flip the door by grabbing the nails and flip a door around.
Just a tip when painting doors, insert 4 screws 1 near each corner top and bottom and let those rest on your saw horses, then your able to flip the door and paint both sides at the same time.
My my, the excitement of that first flush! I'm sure it's like music to your ears. Congrats! Indoor plumbing, how wonderful!!!
Jesse & Alyssa,
You hit it out of the park today. Great video!
1 1/8” is the magic measurement from the drywall to your cut. The escutcheon and stop will butt up to each other. Also, that speed cutter doesn’t cut the stub outs properly because its soft copper. Those are meant for rigid 👍🏻
“I don’t think flushing works yet, do you need electricity for that?” Was the best part!!! Love it!
The flip side of that was my son installed one of those touch on/off faucets. He did not know tjose DO require electricity !
Flooring looks awesome! Wonder if you should have painted or primed your cement floor first?
I really enjoyed this family video. Thank you.
Glad you flushed the lines before you plumbed it in. Thumbs up!
To paint doors, I put 2 screws in the top and bottom edges of the door. Then I can flip the door and paint both sides the same time as the door is resting on the screws not the painted surface. Works great and half’s the painting time.

That black cutter you have is probably only meant for Type M (thinner) copper. Looks like your copper (based on 15:20) is Type L (thicker)
Hi five ! You completed the floor, toilet , sink , and door ! You both Rock ! Thanks again !
Way to go! many would have gone without the floor install, and three years later there's still no floor. Good call! You guys are #1!:)
I've been in my house for over 30 years and I still haven't finished all the projects....LOL

no chrome escutcheon plates around the copper water line when it comes through the wall?

thanx for the "bugaboo view".... and big congrats on ur first official room (bath)... !!!
Looking great! Well done guys! 👍😁
Its really great to see you both laughing and having a good time even when you are dealing with challenges! Electric Toilet for the win!!!
I used this flooring throughout my house actually.. its pretty decent. Does go down easy.. easy to cut as well. I have dogs and their claws don't scratch them up, but they do clickity clack on them.
Also congrats on 400K subs!!
What a great result!
Well done guys you are smashing it.
I used that same flooring in my kitchen and it separated a bit at the seams, I do renovations for a living so not a newbie. I have since done glue down vinyl planks with much better results.
Great job guys, another little tip for you on the flooring. It helps to heat up the material with a heat gun or torch to make the cuts easier.
I switched to Shark bite's as my water has a lot of acid and after you replace a cople times the commpression fiting lesks sndd will not vome off the pipe.
Won’t be long now, even though I know you are already! It is still exciting! I love how Bugaboo got it before you did. The floor looks great.
Paint upstairs.....warmer, fumes won't be trapped in the room, and drywall and flooring will cover any overspray
Yes! And not contaminate groundwater. I'd get fined around here...

When we added our toilet, it was tear jerking!! It’s hard renovating or building with no good toilet!! Congratulations!! 🚽 💩
Loads of victories!
We also have this flooring in 2 places. The first one was installed in a medium use room 12 years ago, we love it.

I had a good laugh about the lack of electricity for the flush. Thanks for sharing that special moment 😉🤣
Congrats it looks fantastic! So happy for you,its the small things in life.
Wonderful to see you BATHROOM nearly ready to use !

So what room is completed in a kings castle first ? The throne room lol
Another way to cut a product like this is to use a blade style paper cutter. For the curved cuts have you tried your dewault vibrating too with a narrow blade?
He says, "I don't know who built the walls but they're not square." Hilarious! LMAO😂

Great job. I did not know that Bugaboo used the toilet, you guys have a very amazing fur baby
don't spritz the paint sprayer so much; nice even spraying in a smooth motion.
Yep, never seen any painters pump the trigger on their guns. You want long even strokes
About fell off my chair at the electric comment. Roflmao. You're never going to live THAT one down. The BEST funny of the past 3 years. Lol. Awesome job on the bathroom. It looks great. Nice work!
That bathroom is looking very nice. You guys are the best. Hugs and Prayers ya'll

I have used this exact flooring in my kitchen, dining room, hall, and bath. Much easier when you find out you can easily cut it with a metal shear (tin snips). Not a bad first install though.
It should be 70 degrees to apply latex paint and you could use tin snips to cut your flooring around toilet flange.

God bless Alyssa. You just made my year, electric potty! Lol. I'm feeling a kick starter for a new loo.
Never experienced sooooo much excitement over plumbing in a toilet !!!

Chalk it up! Hit target for the day. Looks good too - love the flooring.
THAT WAS FUNNY!! " I don't think the flushing is working yet, do you we need electricity for that?"
Love the floor and I love the hat Alyssa! Great job team!! 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱
Flushed with success great work guys
Awesome! Install the faucet and the water lines before the sink goes on and save yourself the yoga. LOL
When Alyssa said "Do we need electricity for a the Toilet" i first face palmed myself and then started laughing lol
I really enjoyed this video---it finally was something I could relate to.
Alyssa, you are a really good sport. That was really funny.
Congrats on 400k!
I've painted automobiles and sprayed doors on houses, but never used the short strokes that you are using to spray, is this a new technique that I haven't heard of?
Lol I'm intrigued as well
No they're just doing it wrong, Alyssa was doing it right at the start but Jessie told her to do it wrong like he was
For future reference. Put 2.5" screws into the top and bottom of doors and place the heads of the screws on the saw horses to allow the flipping of the doors to coat both sides more quickly.
I'm really proud of you guys. It's like you finally made it back to civilized living from the caves.
“Does the electricity have to be on for the toilet to flush?” I honestly thought she was trolling then LOL’d when I realized she was serious!! 😂👍🏼
Look up a video on how to use a paint gun like that
Hammer 2 nails 18 inches apart in the top and bottom of the door . You can use these sit the door on the saw horses or carry them by the nails.
Always cracks me up that the priortiy for moving into any house is that you have a working bathroom.
Jet flush would have a pressurized tank in the fill tank. My daughter used to clog my standard toilet, so I switched to a true jet flush and never had a clog after that. They are quite loud in the middle of the night.
Good choice.
I love that vinyl plank with the overlapping glue strip. I did my entire main floor 5 years ago and it's still looking awesome.
Be very sure to roll the joints (LoL) so they stick very well.
Pro Tip: Use offset tin snips for curved cuts!!
That style of toilet is compulsory in Australia. Here you can only have a duel flush. It is to help save on water usage
Looks great guys!
The wall texture turned out great.
Make sure you install a door stop so you don't put a hole in drywall
Tin Snips would have made some of those cuts much easier. The edges look like they should have been given more of a gap (that gets covered by baseboard). As the temperature changes that floor moves more than one might think and if there is no room at the edges the middle will buckle.
Spray in continuous sweeping strokes, not short bursts, You shouldn't start and stop while aiming at whet you're spraying
When you spray paint a door next time put 2 nails in the top and 2 in the bottom of edge of door. That way you can let the nails rest on sawhorse and the door will never touch . That way you can spray both sides . You can flip the door by grabbing the nails and flip a door around.
