I think the message she was trying to portray throughout was the isolating sense of loneliness we all often experience and the fleeting feelings of joy many of us spend our entire lifetimes chasing after to numb ourselves to emotional pain and crippling sadness. I found one thing very interesting about the 2nd half of the music video during the tonal transition with all the undressed people and FKA in the center floating about with quills on her body. As funny as this sounds at first, I think she was trying to embody and portray a lionfish which is a supposedly delicious seafood delicacy also known for it’s venomous sting and unorthodox beauty. “People always tell me that I take my love too far, but refuse to help me.” “You’re not alone.” What I think she in so many ways meant to highlight is how we all long for closeness and human connection, for a literal taste of deep interpersonal joy but are unable to reach it because of the defense mechanisms we put up to protect ourselves due to the traumas we’ve endured. We all develop our own ‘quills’ that prevent us all from allowing ourselves to ever be fully vulnerable again. We simultaneously long for intimacy yet hurt ourselves and one another in our pursuit and a lot of us even indulge in our own pain if it means there’s a chance that we can access that euphoric feeling once more, thus taking our need for love too far and pushing other people away. (There are a few instances in the video where you can see people violently convulsing when they touch FKA which can be read as either pain or pleasure since there is commonly a thin line between the two.) Overall, it’s more or less a depressingly bittersweet and vicious cycle that presents itself in more ways than one and leaves us all feeling empty and perpetually alienated. We become so lost that we forget what we were even after in the first place.
I get this song is a cry for help for a more grounded present humanity something outside of the internet and how it’s divided everyone and the social distancing has changed a lot of people. Loneliness is so common now we need to start working to be more loving and present especially these days

I'm so glad she's back. I wasn't a fan of Caprisongs because it had a much more commercial sound than I'm used to from her. But this song is making me so curious to hear the new album. And THE VISUALS in the video. Her hair, the inflatable boots with a porcupine quill headpiece, the choreography...it's all amazing.

All the choreography looks sort of sporadic, and the dancers are kind of birthing themselves out of the ground. It’s so beautiful and resonates so deeply with someone who is trying to uncover who they are at a primal level. It’s an aggressive but euphoric rebirth

Love her, like all her stuff. So excited to experience new material from her. I use the word experience because it is an experience for all your senses. Great, absolutely love this. Have to listen and watch it a few times to get a grip on that song and visuals.

I don't have super wide music tastes but Twigs has always stood out to me and she's definitely in my top 3 artists, so this release alone was pretty big for me. I only wish that the track was a bit more full, like maybe there could've been more of that heavier bass that plays near the end, but other than that I love it and I'm so excited for the full album.
