Thanks for including Mortal Night, DTS and Kendo's Cut! I'm the main guy behind those, and you'll only have to wait for a few months before I drop my best mod yet ;). Let's just say that my previous ones are boring and primitive compared to it. Also, for those commenting that DTS is cancelled, it's kiiiiinda true, but I'll very likely finish it in the near future.
Bro, your work is awesome. Mortal Night is hard AF, but so rewarding to play, and Kendo's cut is so funny. I'd love to see DTS finished, fell in love with it since the demo release. Looking forward to your next project!
Hey Jared, Ghost from Containment's VA here! Thanks for covering Containment! I just wanted to add that the public release on moddb actually has voice acting for all chapters and that an alternate ending to the 4th chapter is in the works. 💀👍 Again, thanks for covering it! Also I hope you've been well! I have fond memories of our podcast episode on FanFreeks lol
Yeah man, I'm doing great! I had no idea you were doing voice work for Containment. That rules!! I wonder why mine didn't have the VO. I can't really remember where I got the install from, but it was recent.
I can't wait for the 2nd path/ending! I watched every episode since it started dropping last year and recently rewatched with the voice acting and definitely feels like a solid, classic RE experience!
Wow guys! Everyone really seems to be getting into this one. Thanks so much for coming out in force. If there's any mods that you'd like to see in another video like this, comment and let me know.
Jared, my dude, you could talk about specular highlights, vertices and the knife-edge that is 'good lighting' in any given scene 👍 your content always gives off a really chill vibe, I just like the way you deliver things - your voice being a major factor, comes across in a genuine, self-aware way that I can dig and definitely respect, think it's the only way to carry yourself 👍 Honestly, anything you can think of when it comes to RE 🤔 anything behind-the-scenes, making-of, or your favourite moments/dialogue/weapons/music/or your ideas on how RE has evolved and where you think it could or should be aiming for. Should RE be going full-on arena shooter ? A lot of people are saying Yes, Jared, people are stoked on it, they say it'll finally make RE realize its true potential and zombies are all slightly-infected people now, and you have infinite ammo and a l w a y s in a squad of 4, always online, and obnoxious weapon skins - people are liking this Jared, people are saying how stoked they are to see RE change forever......🙃
Serious question, why are the FMVs on the GameCube games shit? The Disc can hold 2 CDs worth of data so it should have no issue with RE2 and 3 and full res FMVs
Awesome video, made my slow graveyard shift much less of a headache. Agreed on the pixels vs smoothed out HD look but those Dolphin mods were a really cool novelty a couple years back on a large projector and was honestly more blown away by the clean menus and inventory screen than anything. Can I keep that and leave the environments gritty haha? Haven't played Seamless HD since, but now for curiosity's sake I kinda want to see it with a well tuned crt shader on top...
Excellent video! Even though I already knew most of the mods shown in this video, I still found it very entertaining to watch you share your experience with them and it's just great that you're giving them some very needed exposure, not only because they are awesome, but because there's a very big part of the RE fanbase that don't even know they exist! As for more mods, you could check out The Origin of Species, which is a mod the incredible Komizo made before The Lord of the Necropolis, and BioRand, a randomizer that remixes many, many things from doors, item placement, enemies and even NPCs and voices. It can get pretty wacky! Keep up the great work!
If you thought kendo's cut was kinda wacky, wait until you see the sequel mod "kendo's cut uncut". That one is Claire's story and man, the story gets nuts pretty fast. It's hilarious and really fun to play through
it is!! i kinda want to play just for that- though 200% get what you mean with the random kinda lines on the background textures being a little quirky -- still it'd be amazing to see this kinda perfected purely for the abillity to replay the 'OG' resident evil entries but with a fresh coat of paint as it were! i actually recently went out and brought the gamecube entries for 2, 3 and CV to add to my collection with the SOLE purpose of playing the OG games but with some upscaled goodness... just wish i hadnt had to resort to Ebay xD
Thanks for mentioning the SHDP mod! I noticed you wondered about the water droplet bug on RE3 CR, it's when you have the favorable RNG active, it's a clever way to detect an eventual speedrun cheater since it's a very active community. And to confirm, RE3 SHDP looks best because it indeed has native 480p bg originally on PC instead of 240p for RE1 and 2 ^^
What a cool way to sus out speed run cheaters!!! That's awesome! ya know, it's crazy. Going from 240p to 480, doesn't sound like all that much resolution, but the difference between backgrounds in 2 vs 3 is like another world. Insane.
@@AvalancheReviews Yeah it's pretty wild the difference it can make! Capcom released some RE2 CGI art around the time this game got out, you can have a glimpse of what these bg could have looked like. Same for RE1, the box art from the japanese DC Dual Shock has a hi res render of the mansion hall. No AI upscale will do justice but we tried our best :)
Thanks for covering Revisited. It’s still only at the demo level though a lot more has been done. RE modding takes a lot of effort, trial and error to script the events, let alone create new camera data and masking layers.
Oh I believe it. Making a game is hard in general. Let alone making one inside of another one. Well you've got my interest to say the least. I hope this video lets a few more people know about it too.
It's great to see some of the mod community's work on display here, nice work Jared! I unfortunately don't have the time to go through a lot of these (I use a Steam Deck as my daily driver PC, so some of these mods would necessitate some additional work for me to set up) but I did particularly enjoy some of the original mods (RE Containment, Revisited) as well as work done to restore RE1.5 via the MZD project. Look forward to seeing more of this from the community.
I'm glad you liked it man! I'll probably end up getting whatever the next iteration of the steam deck is. I want one, but i also wanna let that tech mature a little more.
I can respect that, though I will also say the Deck runs incredibly well and there are maybe a handful of games where I've run into issues and even RE4make runs anywhere from 35-60fps though I kept my framerate locked to around 45fps for consistency and battery conservation. Control wise, the trackpads go a long way for precision aiming and I've found even hard keyboard & mouse controls can be mapped to it really well, I play a lot of Battlebit and have downed many a helicopter with an RPG due to how well it works. Overall, it's a cracking bit of kit, and as far as emulation goes it handles pretty much anything up to & including PS3 although for the latter you will hit some choppiness. Probably worth waiting to see what the next revision(s) come up with in terms of battery life and other QoL adjustments, as it is battery that does take a hit (I probably got a good 90-120 mins playing RE4make from full charge)@@AvalancheReviews
I appreciate how thorough you've been with this retrospective. I'm sure it started out as a comprehensive overview of the games, themselves, but you going into detail on the tech details, ports, and mods has elevated this series of videos to the stratosphere. Definitely the best series on RE on RUclips.
RE3 has always been my favourite. I played it when I was waaaaaay too young to really be doing so. But it was the first one I completed. When my grandad would pick me up after school, I would play for like an hour. Must have completed it a dozen times. Just recently played the remake. The lost of the clocktower section entirely and the shortened opening section really dissapointed me :/
Maybe you just wanted to talk about the original classic survival horror games but not talking about the RE4 HD Project was kinda weird, it's the biggest labour of love project that has come out of this community.
"This is my husbands legacy..." BANG!! "I ain't got no clue darlin" I cried laughing for 15mins straight & have been randomly bursting out laughing since I saw that. I need to see a full vid of someone playing those mods. Bloody brilliant lol.
Dude, Thank YOU! Not only did you turn me onto getting these titles on PC, but also these banger mods. I got RE1 and 2 up pretty easily, no real "install" and I'm just grinning ear to ear. No more trying to setup my Wii to play through these annually. No clue how these just seamlessly work on Windows 11, but I don't care it just works! Love your channel man!
The RE series came out when I was in high school, our local game shop would play the demo in their front display tv I was awestruck at the lush and meticulous CG backgrounds, like the devs really put the extra effort to make the buildings and surroundings very pretty and looks almost real
Don’t really comment on RUclips but I just wanna say thank you got the videos you make. Not just the RE videos (although, they are my favorite). I’ve been watching for a few years now and anytime I’m having a bad day or just wanna relax, I turn on your videos and do just that so again, thank you!
Although our own mod wasn't shown, BioRand, I'm super glad to see someone shining a light on the modding community for the old RE games. All these people are remarkable, kind and as passionate as can be. And all of them deserve tons of praise for their work. It really is one big family and what most people probably don't realize is how much everyone is helping each other with their mods.
As much as I love high res mods for RE games, there do be something about the blurry mess that are the original textures 🤣I'm excited to try out some of these mods, especially RE:0 Demake
Avalanche - “and as you can see, it’s a massive visual improvement.” Me, a heathen that can barely tell the difference. “Yes, indeed, massive improvement, much respect.”
The best RE mods are by far the Randomizers of RE1-3, and RE1R + RE2R. I can’t put Resident Evil 2 remake down because every playthrough is so different. It’s also much harder as you’re not garunteed good weapons or ammo in the early game
I am now and forever will be an OG RE lover. And with that said, you absolutely should read S.D. Perry's novels on the games. You won't be disappointed.
@@AvalancheReviews it's on the residentevilmodding boards forum, along with classic music and fmv mods! i cant play RE1R without the classic top tier voice acting 😂
I just realized that the sega saturn port of re1 is the only version where if you blow a zombies head off the brain matter that flies off will interact with the walls nearby by stopping at the wall and sliding down, pretty cool
Last time I played RE1R I initially forgot Reupscale (possibly being too focused on triple-checking that I remembered No Spiders,) and realized it as soon I was in-game. One of those things where even people who are like "lmao what's the big deal with graphics I can't see the difference in this image that's literally 1000 times more detailed" will notice.
Played not long ago for the first time ever the first three games with the Seamless HD mod. Had an absolute blast with them, even though I started the franchise with the original RE4. Now onto Code Veronica, probably Game Cube emulation.
As usual, amazing work, gripping content, aaaaand I need to download all of these and play through each and everyone. And listen to the whole retrospective again. I love you man !
The Mortal Night zombies realize who Hunk is and run for their (un)lives. And I didn't know there is a RE0 item box mod, now the game instantly becomes playable.
I'm so glad the seamless hd projects have been ported to the actual pc ports. Now we finally have hd textures and backgrounds with being able to skip the door translations. Also quick turning with 1 and 2. Only wished 3 was easier to do this with. I spent hours trying to get it to work. 1 and 2 were fine. But 3 gave me a massive headache
Great video. I was always kind of surprised no one ever modded Resident Evil: Deadly Silence on the Nintendo DS. It seems like having a 3D model of the mansion would be fertile ground for creative modders.
@@AvalancheReviews weird but tasty!! Also was stoked to hear about that survivor mod i was gonna take my partner through the re games and being able to show em the beauty that are the survivor cutscenes without the janky controls will be amazing
Great video! The RE games have some seriously impressive mods. I haven't played all of these myself since I tend to try to avoid the unfinished ones, but I am a big Kendo's Cut fan.
Well, if anyone can do it. Do it right, and give us the details. Incredible well thought out and stuff. It would be you. Your long forms would be godly for such a crazy crazy task. Maybe start off light… just the horror mods. Haha Have you played Total Chaos yet? It’s really an incredible survival horror doom mod.

Great spotlight on mods, I wish more fans were made aware of these kinds of projects. I'd highly recommend checking out the BioRand mod for the classic trilogy games if you get the time. Cheers man
I kindda wish Survivor Redux would have actual pre-rendered backgrounds. You know, taking the 3d backgrounds, putting them in Blender, adding texture filtering and rendering it, to get a more legit look.
Came in expecting Lady Dimitrescu skimpy clothing mods and Thomas the Tank Engine/Shrek Mr X mods, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see you rise above that.
It's incredible that how much work and effort they've made for making these Mods of Resident Evil, and they did an awesome job doing this. The Mods I've liked the most is RE 0 Demake. I always imagine what it would've looked like if it were made on the N64, and Before The Storm is one incredible Mods ever made. It's an interesting take of what Racoon City was before the zombie outbreak happened.
These types of games really are tragically a lost art in game design, its great that people are putting in so much work to create new experiences. There's clearly something about survival horror games with highly detailed 2d pre-rendered backgrounds that keeps us playing them 25 years after they were released. I'm sure there are tonnes of artists and programmers that could collaborate to create something akin to the OG Resident Evil trilogy. Really wish Capcom would come to some kind of Creative Commons license agreement for the formula.
Another one that looks cool is Project Starlight. Details are sparse but the best info is from the devs on twitter or RUclips videos. It’s a RE Gaiden remake with ps1 visuals.
Slight off topic: There is a mod for an item box in Resi Evil 0 now dude 👍in case you may of missed it. Nexus mods But because of this video, i am about to go full on nostalgia and play the first 3 games again with seamless hd packs! All up and running and ready to go 😁
I own most of the Resident evil franchise apart from the umbrella and darkside chronicles im not too big on the rail shooters. But i do own the main series plus most of the spinoffs apart from dead aim and survivor lol. I still need to get the animated movies
I'm not one for rail shooters either, but I actually ended up liking those 2 games. Darkside has some serious camera shake issues, but it's really fun when you're not puking your brains out form all the wobbling motion.
if you go down the classic RE game mods rabbit hole you will never come out again, there are SO MANY AWESOME MODS and best part of it is all are free to play. edit : goes without saying but, you should cover more RE mods, there is one that is probably the hardest in terms of difficulty and it has aliens and pyramid heads in it, i dont remember the name, but its amazing, also there are what feels like an infinite number of RE mods out there that completely change the entire game.
@@AvalancheReviews looking forward to it ! the mod i was talking about being the hardest is the RE2 irregular mod, thats the name and it got aliens zombies spiders pyramid heads and more.
I was watching the Resident Evil Revisited section and thought those backgrounds looked familiar. It's Parasite Eve 2! The Bronco Inn's lobby and Aya's room she stays in - and the lady in the towel there is probably a nod to that since she takes a shower there at one point.
Speedrunner Note: For RE2 Classic Rebirth, you have to wait 1.5 secs to skip doors (listen for the click) or you will get sluggish load times like this otherwise, 1 & 3 do not suffer from this, it's just a quirk of 2CR door skip
27:13 If I remember right, Re3 SHD's inventory icons often bare little resemblance to what's in the original game (for instance, the Benelli M3 becomes an airsoft shotgun with a detachable box mag for some reason). If that's the case nothing of value is lost in not using their icon replacements.
If they ever finished Before the Storm it would be ULTRAGOAT tier mod that nothing would ever even come close to beating. Kendo's Cut and Containment are definitely GOAT tier just below ULTRAGOAT (Containment may be ULTRAGOATED).
More Jared?! Hell yeah!!! Covering something he's a pro at in Resident Evil?!!! Hell yeah!!!!! IT'S MODS?!!!!?? GOD DAMN HELL YEAH!!!! Thanks for spoiling us boss!!
Surprised you didn't talk about the Resident Evil 2 Reborn mod for the OG RE4 since not only was that a cool mod, that mod might of helped pushed back into the limelight due to how much it likely influenced the offical remake. Perhaps it'll show up in a part 2?
Concerning RE2 SourceNext port: if you choose the arrange mode when launching the game, I'm pretty sure it will use the american placement of enemies and items. Hope this will help you to love this version even more!
My dream mod is classic RE leaning even harder into the George Romero and italian horror movie territory it drew from a lot already. Swap in Goblin and Fulci movie soundtrack pieces, maybe some color adjustment to better fit the look, more gore? Whether just a straight forward soundtrack mod from someone who knows the genre really well or a full conversion going all in on the idea of RE '78, it could be amazing.
Definitely, I loved it haha. That one, and also The Glass Staircase from Puppet Combo both went for the italian horror vibe and pulled it off pretty well. Closest to seeing that in RE2 though was using Left 4 Dead 2 mods back in the day, they had a full scenario recreation of RE2 that worked really well with a slow Romero zombie mod and a Dawn of the Dead ost too.

It really is one big family and what most people probably don't realize is how much everyone is helping each other with their mods.
This is exactly the video I needed to see. I literally just started playing the HD mods last week.
My man is back with another survival horror video! Thanks dude ❤
You just posted this? I was watching all your RE vids and this came on. Great timing, better video.
As much as I love high res mods for RE games, there do be something about the blurry mess that are the original textures 🤣I'm excited to try out some of these mods, especially RE:0 Demake
It is why you see indy survivor horror games use the PS1 aesthetic. The blurriness and warped textures/graphics actually add to the horror experience.
Avalanche - “and as you can see, it’s a massive visual improvement.”
Me, a heathen that can barely tell the difference.
RE2R both scenarios and characters basically does the exact same shit.
@@zZiL341yRj736yeah the original is way better plus the randomizer changes it up
41:49 oh that's a awesome Easter egg that someone spent the time to model and put in
I am now and forever will be an OG RE lover. And with that said, you absolutely should read S.D. Perry's novels on the games. You won't be disappointed.
Great video keep up the amazing work
This was fantastic, but i'm surprised there wasn't a mention of the Marvin mod.
The water dripping thing in Rebirth3 is to know when the RNG option is turned on so you cant fake having the best luck lol
My must have mods for RE1R is reupscale project, 1996 voice acting, music and cutscenes mod. makes it the perfect video game experience for me.
I didn't know there was one that replaced the VO with the original. That's awesome!
@@AvalancheReviews it's on the residentevilmodding boards forum, along with classic music and fmv mods! i cant play RE1R without the classic top tier voice acting 😂
That Resident Evil Revisited; did I see the pre-rendered backgrounds from Parasite Eve 2 in there? That's kinda awesome.
4:52 That fast water dripping is intentional. It's to detect when favourable RNG is being used, so you can't cheat if you speedrun RE3.
I just realized that the sega saturn port of re1 is the only version where if you blow a zombies head off the brain matter that flies off will interact with the walls nearby by stopping at the wall and sliding down, pretty cool
Voice, quality, knowledge! Every aspect on your videos is such a perfect fit!
Thanks so much!
This is some next level RE: nerding and I'm both there for it and intimidated by it
Hell yeah. I enjoyed every minute of this video Avalanche !!!!!!!! Seriously amazing
Thanks so much!!
Love the intro song
Reminds me of
dance with the dead
However the review lacked any mention of a actual avalanche
An avalanche of RE mods. BAM!!
@@AvalancheReviews fair enough
@@AvalancheReviewsTop 10 Avalanches would be a funny April fools video
Played not long ago for the first time ever the first three games with the Seamless HD mod. Had an absolute blast with them, even though I started the franchise with the original RE4.
Now onto Code Veronica, probably Game Cube emulation.
I love seeing this!! Started at 4 and went back to check out the others. Brings a genuine smile to my face.
As usual, amazing work, gripping content, aaaaand I need to download all of these and play through each and everyone. And listen to the whole retrospective again. I love you man !
The Mortal Night zombies realize who Hunk is and run for their (un)lives. And I didn't know there is a RE0 item box mod, now the game instantly becomes playable.
that baby pink background at 5:57 caught me off-guard lol
May the glory of Kendo's Cut go forth through the outreach of this video.
That being said, I'm still hoping for Project Starlight to somehow endure.
I totally forgot about that one!!! God, I would kill to see that get finished!
I knew you were a man of culture with how in depth you've covered the RE series but seeing that moe shop pc desktop 👌
A man of weird* taste. HA!
@@AvalancheReviews weird but tasty!! Also was stoked to hear about that survivor mod i was gonna take my partner through the re games and being able to show em the beauty that are the survivor cutscenes without the janky controls will be amazing
Solid video, you covered alot of the great mods/patches out there.
Great video! The RE games have some seriously impressive mods. I haven't played all of these myself since I tend to try to avoid the unfinished ones, but I am a big Kendo's Cut fan.
I love to see you go into your super detailed, super informative, awesome quality breakdowns of the Doom Mods… good luck. lol
Why would you wish that fate on me?!
Well, if anyone can do it. Do it right, and give us the details. Incredible well thought out and stuff. It would be you. Your long forms would be godly for such a crazy crazy task. Maybe start off light… just the horror mods. Haha
Have you played Total Chaos yet? It’s really an incredible survival horror doom mod.

I did not expect that wallpaper from you
Great spotlight on mods, I wish more fans were made aware of these kinds of projects.
That's the trick. Get em all in with the classy video and then BAM! Hit them with the thong mods!
35:30 HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS MOD I FUCKING LOVED THOSE BOOKS AS A KID
I'm so glad you included the 0 demake, I saw it on cdromance and was interested to play it but never got around to it
I swear, nowadays I get all of my ISO's from CDromance.
@@AvalancheReviewsReally, only there or Vimm are worth checking for most Roms.
That RE3 upscale mod looked frikin fantastic! Like an Xbox360 title, or at least Xbox.
@41:31 If you examine the fire, the game will ask you to use the extinguisher.
Nexus mods
But because of this video, i am about to go full on nostalgia and play the first 3 games again with seamless hd packs!
This looks insane, I need to replay this with the mod asap
Man this is such an awesome video! Shame if memory serves that RE Before the storm has been shelfed as i believe the main modder has gone MIA?
Well that's a damn shame. I was really looking forward to that one.
Honey wake up!!!
New avalanche reviews video just dropped!!!
Listen, I'm not going to say that watching my videos will improve any relationship, but..............it does.
if you go down the classic RE game mods rabbit hole you will never come out again, there are SO MANY AWESOME MODS and best part of it is all are free to play.
edit : goes without saying but, you should cover more RE mods, there is one that is probably the hardest in terms of difficulty and it has aliens and pyramid heads in it, i dont remember the name, but its amazing, also there are what feels like an infinite number of RE mods out there that completely change the entire game.
I have a few mods on a list for a new video. I'd say you stand a good chance at getting another one of these.
How unfortunate that Before the Storm mod got cancelled.
The lead dev died
Speedrunner Note: For RE2 Classic Rebirth, you have to wait 1.5 secs to skip doors (listen for the click) or you will get sluggish load times like this otherwise, 1 & 3 do not suffer from this, it's just a quirk of 2CR door skip
27:13
If I remember right, Re3 SHD's inventory icons often bare little resemblance to what's in the original game (for instance, the Benelli M3 becomes an airsoft shotgun with a detachable box mag for some reason). If that's the case nothing of value is lost in not using their icon replacements.
Re novels were 🔥
Takes me back to 8th grade
I like how you background is Notice by Moe Shop and Toriena :)
'Effort'; ,definable by the dedicated who made this: going above and beyond
If they ever finished Before the Storm it would be ULTRAGOAT tier mod that nothing would ever even come close to beating. Kendo's Cut and Containment are definitely GOAT tier just below ULTRAGOAT (Containment may be ULTRAGOATED).
More Jared?! Hell yeah!!!
Covering something he's a pro at in Resident Evil?!!! Hell yeah!!!!!
IT'S MODS?!!!!?? GOD DAMN HELL YEAH!!!!
Thanks for spoiling us boss!!
My pleasure big dawg!
Seemless HD makes it look more 2D to me, also somehow reminds me of Alone in the Dark.. its so sharp in an off putting way.
In RE3, it looks its best. I imagine in like 5 years, we'll see some absolutely wild stuff going on in the AI upscaling world.
Sounds like Night at the Gates of Hell would be a game right up your alley.
