As listeners we should keep in mind that pastor Rich is also a regular dude, and he's entitled to his own opinion about marriage and at what age to be married by. He clearly has a friendship with the guest and I think his personality really came out this episode because Aodhan is so mellow and in a way quite opposite to pastor Rich. With that being said, we are also entitled to voice how we feel when we hear our pastor say something or how he says it. Personally, I think his comments were not disrespectful, nor did he sound like a "frat" but instead, he keeps it real and speaks his mind, specially on his podcast. If you listened the entire episode, his tone and reflection towards the end of the video shows that he did learn something from his conversation with Aodhan and he gave him lots of flowers too in the beginning! Just happy to be able to hear people like pastor Rich that while not perfect, keep it real in their Monday through Saturday life, instead to playing the Holier than thou role!
Loved the interview, I don’t know if I would’ve survived it though, it’s tough to be asked some questions, but it was beautiful how Aodhán didn’t seem to have a problem being an open book. If we don’t open our books we won’t be able to relate with each other’s stories and be an encouragement for one another. Being an open house will prompt others to open up to God. Even though it seemed tough pastor Rich in this case had the difficult job of opening the book an on a quite complex chapter but the confidence that Aodhán showed is a proof of his faith in the writer of his story and his unshakable trust in a wonderful ending.
I love the balance of silly, funny, and serious in this episode. Im a 32 yr old single female who desires marriage, and was not triggered or offended by Rich saying that he think it works out better when you get married younger, haha. Everyone has their own journey and God always knows when you are ready for marriage. Maturity can happen whether you are married or not. Great episode :)
As instructed: I’ll be new to Miami and am so excited to be serving on the opps team at VousCon. Lover of Jesus, single, 31, and was the lead singer of a cover band in law school. Not a Grammy winner, but not too shabby. Come find me! 🤗
I agree that marriage brings settleness but everyone is on their own journey too and I think trusting God in the process is really important..Love the part about decisions. Really good advice!!
I know people were sensitive to the marriage and dating conversation, but that was one of the most real and relevant back and forths with insight and relatability I've heard in a "church-like" context. I appreciate Rich for probing that way and Aodhan for sharing transparently with maturity - he revealed a lot of helpful and relatable experiences for people who have served God for many years, accomplished much, but are still spinning in this area. Dont get so triggered - listen carefully and consider the insights gained from 2 people in 2 different seasons of life trying to comprehend each other and share where they're at. I think if Rich hadn't asked those questions with such honest curiosity and directness, I wouldn't have heard what I needed to hear from Aodhan. The exchange was real and mature.
i'm 27, still single, never dated, been a leader at church for many years and still don't know why I'm not married, is a hard question to answer, all my friends are married too. I do think God's got to have something big for me tho, I don't want to lose hope but there is always that confusion inside of you of why do these things happen to others but not to you? when love is gonna come for you?
I do feel sometimes in church when you can't serve in the same team or sit together it makes it hard to have a normal relationship these rules are challenging especially when they have security requirements on top of that 😂
HOLY SPIRIT led promptings will lead and guide Us to where we need to be … HOLY SPIRIT Will press upon Us into all things… we will never do it on our own
The marriage conversation……..how about as a pastor encouraging him in his singleness and asking him what he desires in a partner in a less pushy and presumptive way? Pastors who marry young and constantly talk about marriage really kill me with their lack of empathy and sensitivity to this topic. Like “when is the last time you were on a date?” Why ask that? Why put him on the spot like that? What a bizarre segment lol it just kept getting worse…
So I watched the whole episode and want to provide some constructive feedback: 1) please be respectful of your guests. The constant talking over (sometimes you wouldn’t allow him to finish a response before you followed up with another question. This happened over and over, and a lot of times you were just clowning him or pushing his boundaries). 2) If I had no context for this conversation, I would have never guessed that these people were lead pastors and worship leaders. It felt like frat bros chopping it up and making crass jokes nonstop. What part of this matched the title of the podcast title “Mature Me?”
