army sailor here. got 20 years in the business of a controlled collision with ground. in beaching operations a kedgeing anchor is used, mounted on the stern. equipt with wire rope. soul purpose is to haul ship off the beach. bow anchors are not used for normal beaching. only time bow anchors become involved for beaching is when you do a 3 point anchor. in which case all anchors are used. starboard bow, port bow,& stern.
As a 'Static' model-builder....... VERY Impressive!! Getting the radar alone is an Achievement, due to small railings and getting gears to work that small, the guns were cool, BUT the Dropping of anchor was a Nice Touch!! USN Veteran, 20+ years......is Impressed!!!
When the ramp dropped I thought, there's no way a tank is going to roll out, but lo and behold, and pops an amphibious 😮. Congrats 👏. Its one thing to build a static model but a working one that floats 👏👏
Very cool. To improve the stability you either need to add some ballast (lead) low down at the keel, or reduce the water sloshing inside by adding longitudinal baffles. As others have mentioned, you have a GZ, BG and/or GM issue.
I generally use lead shot. I brought about 20 pounds a few years ago. I place the shot in condoms in areas I think ballast is needed. When I think I have the model stable and floating stable I mix the shot with epoxy and glue it in place. Not sure if you can still buy lead shot now as I have been told it’s no longer used in shotgun shells.
😆 While we're telling stories about dads and LST, my Dad was on LST 1126, Snohomish County, a WW2 leftover still serving during the Cold War. He told of being in the empty well deck while at sea and watching the hull twist and flex in the swells.
Makes sense, the design was based off of a coastal car ferry; it has a shallow draft and a flat bottom, both features that were vital to its role as a landing craft, but also did it no favors on the open sea.
Outstanding, very nice restoration job to get all the functions operational. To bad the starboard anchor doesn't operate. Would stabilize the ship just a little bit more. Again, outstanding work, well deserved accolades..
When I was in the Marine Corps in 1971 I was in Charlie company second, Amtrak battalion.Yeah, I was a maintenance Mon the P7.The first ones that came in to the Is marine corps

That stern anchor would be a Danforth anchor. We left ours off the coast of Okinawa during beaching exercises.
If I didn't see it for myself, I wouldn't have believed there were Army Sailors. Your buddies took me up the Panama Canal on a Mike Boat.
As thrilled as much today as a boy at 10 years old. Thank you.
Job extremely well done sir! You just made me feel like a little boy all over again!

@@Ron-uq2hgball bearings would work too wouldnt they?
Wow, I didn't exspect that! Amazing! Thanks for posting! Keep it coming!
According to my Dad, real LSTs were about as stable as this model.
My dad was on LSTs too. Not a ship to write home about. Not very comfortable.
