Luke Sauer it would likely be able to get a lot of fresh DNA from lots of new sources. Maybe with new monsters intentionally created to face the older rampaging behemoths, or spawned in the aftermath of the carnage. Add in some new boss monsters as well and a good old fashion b movie story that serves as the perfect backdrop to the carnage. Plus modern monsters can also add in some extra spice.
The way they handled splitscreen was awesome too. When you got close to another player the screens would combine to a single camera angle while you face off with one another. It was really smooth and a unique concept that made the battles that much more satisfying.
I loves this game so much that when I was younger, I created a word doc and made my own WOTM2. Legit about 50 pages long describing every single detail of the game. What the start menu looks like, the intro video that plays when you put the disc in your console, game mechanics, characters, levels, game options, unlockables, controller settings, computer player settings, etc. AND what each would look like as you play the game. The type of text used...I mean seriously I made a second game just on paper haha. Love this game so so so much. I even legit tried to buy the rights to the game incase I somehow got a chance to make it...I even made a simple progression system for people who played on a "main" in order to unlock more combos/change out combos/have more/different fighting moves. I went all in man. However in my research I found that incognito (the studio responsible for making this game) split into two entities, one of which I believe is called lightbox games and the other "Eat sleep play". Because of this split I'm pretty sure there will never, ever, be a sequel or even a game similar to this one. I still have my very first copy that I got back in 03. In my opinion this is the best game ever created.
Apparently a sequel was propoed to Sony butnothing came of it. I'm currently working on a spiritual successor as of now, though it's mostly documentation and 3D assets.
You know that if you study some aspects of game design and get a team together, you can make a spiritual successor, right? A kaiju fighting game isn't exactly a copyrighted idea on its own.

One of my favorite details was that in a lot of the levels you could cause natural disasters. One of the levels has a tidal wave that covers the whole map, one with a volcano that explodes and another with an earthquake. Also I loved the feeling of platforming across buildings. The platforming element and sense of scale really elevated this game for me.
This game is like the giant monster version of Destroy All Humans; in other words, a fun send-up of 50's b-movies and in War of the Monsters case, giant monster movies.
The PS2 classic version of this game on PS4/PS4 Pro/PS5 is upscaled to 1080p. It's not the same as a full-on remaster but it definitely looks sharper than the native PS2 version.

Smoki Blues they have become somewhat obsolete in this day and age when you can download demos off PlayStation store but the games on there don’t look very good but back then the games you would get on the demo disc are the kind you would see announced at E3, and I don’t understand why this game didn’t get a sequel, plus back then the games had something that many modern ones seem to be lacking: a sense of fun, modern games have great stories and visuals but the problem with that is people don’t buy games to look at them they buy them to play, if they wanted to look at something they would go to the cinema or an art gallery
My favorite monster is and always has been preytor. He is so overpowered. I've always loved his health draining special and the fact his light attack combo is the fastest of any monster and the final launching attack of the move is so quick that it cant be blocked before it lands like other monsters. Kongar's light attack is kind of the same way and I always found him to be the toughest opponent to face because 75% of the time you cant block the final hit of his basic combo.
I've always loved Ultra-V. He is a nightmare, if you know how to use him. I think I went till 254 is Endurance mode with him once. Obviously, I like the Character Design, and how flashy a lot of his moves look. But his Mobility is amazing too. I think he's the highest jumper out of all. He also has good health. Not as much as Agamo, Magmo, or Robo-47, but more than good enough to make him brutally competitive. Never liked Preytor as much. Probably the second least favourite character (from Zorgulon of course). His combos are fast, but weak af. His Mobility is really good, but nothing else I'm afraid. His health is rather weak too (the worst is Kineticlops, but I'm not 100% sure) If you go up against a Good Agamo AI, he can literally KO you within seconds. Most of the Preytor AI will do just that too. They'll pummel you, but will fly away the moment you make a comeback. Not exactly the character's fault, but the AI is programmed in a way to use the characters with their advantages. Preytor- Seeks a few hits then flies away, or takes a few hits and flies away. Loves to Grab and throw you. Congar- Loves to collect Health. Barely uses the LR Special. Is pretty easy to crush under Buildings. Loves loves loves using Impaling Objects and Electric Generators. Ultra-V - Always on the lookout for Melee objects and Technical Power ups (Invisibility Cube, Energy Pick-Ups, Special Attack Orbs) loves to fight on rooftops. Always on the move, never stays in one place. Uses LR Special whenever gets the chance. Can be either extremely easy, or pretty hard to battle with. Puts up a good fight most of the times. Robo-47 - pretty much same as Ultra-V except: Loves to fight on the Ground. Uses Charged Dash quite a lot. Doesn't use his amazing LR Special enough. Loves to Uppercut. Doesn't really collect Pick-Ups as much. Loves loves loves Melee Weapons. Agamo- probably the most Aggressive. Is rather smart with Power-Ups. Only picks if you're away, then comes straight for you. Attacks probably the most, pretty much never stops attacking and keeps at it continuously when near him. Rarely uses Impaling Objects. Togera- Barely ever uses his LR Special (even he knows it's useless). Loves to chuck Impaling Objects. Especially Explosive Gas Cans/Trucks. Never saves himself when the Tsunopolis Tsunami is triggered. Kineticlops- Uses LR Special a lot, but rarely ever connects. Loves short combos. Hates fighting in an open area, away from buildings.
@@cxssetteman182 I got to 450 on endurance with Agamo, if you keep collecting energy while the sparkling hands thing Is active you can beat each opponent within about 6 strikes. Slam stun then hold down and press triangle and that will melt the opponents health and Agamo barely takes damage compared to the other monsters.
What a great game this one was ... didn’t even have to piggy back off of the titans of Godzilla franchise either . Unlocking the extra monsters and their outfits was the real gem 💎

Small hint if you press select when your energy bar is flashing blue and red it unlocks a power up where your monsters fist,claws, or hands glow with orange energy it makes you faster and causes your attacks to be faster.
still remember it like yesterday, i used to have a demo of this. was at a very long line at a toy store and there were games close by so i went to check em, i saw this cover and i was hooked, only 9 at the time i still wanted to play it. my mom said i had to put something away cause i didnt have enough money, i hesitated. but i took the wager of the random cool looking game i played a demo off and boy did i strike gold that day. it was insane, core memory there

i played this game a lot. it has a few obvious balance issues such as charging stations, instantly zapping an enemy from miles away when used or any object that impales, but overall it's very fun to play, especially with friends, the campaign has a lot of replayability as well. i unlocked all of the stuff!

I'm not going to lie, first hearing about this game I was highly interested in it because I'm a big Kaiju/old b-movie fan and kept hearing tons of praise from this game. So when I finally found it on sale on the PS store, I downloaded it and gave it a try. My first impressions were mixed at best. The aesthetics really caught my eye and I loved all of the monster and arena designs, but as soon as I started playing, the controls and difficulty were killing it for me. I had a big misconception about the gameplay and was confused at how cheap the A.I. would behave so it made learning the controls and combos pretty difficult for me. After dedicating myself to "get gud", play all the different monsters, and better learn the controls, the gameplay grew on me and I can honestly see it for the gem everyone else made it out to be. I honestly hope that they come out with either a direct sequel, a spiritual successor, or a remastered version in the future.
My cousin had this game and loaned it to my brother and I when we were kids. This game was fricken awesome. My brother and I liked to screw around in multi-player mode and destroy all the buildings before kicking each other's asses.

I wonder if they can fix the programing oversight in the ps2 version that requires all the damage to cause the earthquake in baytown to be performed by one monster. Makes it almost inposible to have that map special when playing 4
interesting no one mentioned that you could trigger an earth quake in Bay Area Level (San Francisco) by destroing every building to create a bottomless pit to throw oponents in.
I remember hearing about this game long time ago in PlayStation magazine. But then after that I literally sawno advertisement for it. I kind of forgot about it until I came across this video.
A newer sequel could be pretty cool. They could make the maps bigger and have more players per match. Id definitely keep that sort of cartoony look. Never played the original, looks like i would have like it.

Last year I bought this on the PlayStation Store for my PS4, and I was playing this game for weeks. so many memories came flooding back from when I used to play this on the PS2. I even showed this game to my nephews when they came to visit. when they visited again, "My brother keeps using the stupid grab attack on me and it's so annoying!" Lol Honestly, I would gladly pay for a sequel with bigger maps and more monsters. this game had really unique gameplay. all other fighting games are side steppers, but this game allowed you to knock your enemy across the map and flat onto his face, or into a building that then fell down onto them, killing him instantly. the gameplay was so chaotic, and I loved every second of it. someone could make a lot of money if they made a successful sequel
Someone could make alot of money if they just made an online version of this game and maybe added in another monster or two. Litterally almost no work and lots of money.

Glad you finally got to this one. It's a classic and a favorite of mine. I do agree though this game is hard but nonetheless super fun. And however unlikely it is to get a sequel I still hold hope for it to happen someday heh.

You forget to mention, with the earthquake one most of the ground in the city drops down to a bottomless casm that becomes a death zone

This was my childhood
My cousin had this game and loaned it to my brother and I when we were kids. This game was fricken awesome. My brother and I liked to screw around in multi-player mode and destroy all the buildings before kicking each other's asses.
This and Twisted Metal Black were my Childhood even tho I didn’t played this a lot since idk what happened to both the box and the disk which I guess was lost but did bought both games and Kinetica recently because of a special offer

I wonder if they can fix the programing oversight in the ps2 version that requires all the damage to cause the earthquake in baytown to be performed by one monster. Makes it almost inposible to have that map special when playing 4
interesting no one mentioned that you could trigger an earth quake in Bay Area Level (San Francisco) by destroing every building to create a bottomless pit to throw oponents in.

A newer sequel could be pretty cool. They could make the maps bigger and have more players per match. Id definitely keep that sort of cartoony look. Never played the original, looks like i would have like it.

The fact that there is no sequel despite the good review, is a crime.
Last year I bought this on the PlayStation Store for my PS4, and I was playing this game for weeks. so many memories came flooding back from when I used to play this on the PS2. I even showed this game to my nephews when they came to visit. when they visited again, "My brother keeps using the stupid grab attack on me and it's so annoying!" Lol
Honestly, I would gladly pay for a sequel with bigger maps and more monsters. this game had really unique gameplay. all other fighting games are side steppers, but this game allowed you to knock your enemy across the map and flat onto his face, or into a building that then fell down onto them, killing him instantly. the gameplay was so chaotic, and I loved every second of it. someone could make a lot of money if they made a successful sequel
Someone could make alot of money if they just made an online version of this game and maybe added in another monster or two. Litterally almost no work and lots of money.

I don't understand why don't make a sequel or what else because the concept is great for videogames even now is so unique compare to other fighting game.
Glad you finally got to this one. It's a classic and a favorite of mine. I do agree though this game is hard but nonetheless super fun. And however unlikely it is to get a sequel I still hold hope for it to happen someday heh.
