I have one... I call it my happy bag. I have BPD and Bipolar and from those High Anxiety. My bag is a small beach bag. It has a cool texture and soft thick knot rope straps. So even if I don’t feel comfortable enough to take something out the bag itself helps. Inside my happy bag is... a ball that has glitter and lights up with a smiley face smaller ball inside. Pink kinetic sand Green play dough A glow in the dark fidget spinner Gummy bears A cotton candy sucker (which is replaced often) A small pencil bag with multiple coloured pens A raninbow slinky with mood faces on it A deck of blue play cards A patch of a donut 🍩 (iron on fabric patch) Small wordearch book Small notebook Small colouring book Granola bars And a set of keys (that have no use besides fiddling)
I have a sensory bag. It's plastic and has little sharks on it because sharks are one of my special interests. It has a chewy necklace, a replacement pendant for the necklace, a silicone pot holder that has little divets that are nice to squish and run my fingers over, a little spiky plastic ball that I can squeeze and roll around, a tangle, a stretchy bracelet, and a little tub of putty.
I completely understand what you were saying when you said that when you have a meltdown you become nonverbal. I am the same way during a meltdown, panic attack, etc. The people around me know a bit of ASL (98% of them anyway) so I tend to sign if I can feel my hands enough. Even when I can barely feel them I can still sign things like yes and no or shakes my head/nod.
I have one of those draw string bags, but I take with me if I am going anywhere. In the bag, I have some items that I can use whenever I'm in a social situation. I don't really have sensory issues to where I need certain things, but I do have meltdowns when I'm really stressed. So some of the items in my bag are 1) a fidget cube that I play with when I'm either bored or anxious, 2) my iPad, one of my favorite things ever. I'm so obsessed with technology and I take my iPad pretty much everywhere I go😂, 3) headphones for my iPad if I'm listening to music or something like that. They're not noise cancelling, but I think they're okay, 4) chargers for my iPad/iPhone. Yeah, if I bring my iPad somewhere, I always bring a charger with me. Most of the time I let someone else borrow my charger if I don't need it, 5) a small stuffed animal, I have always loved stuffed animals and I love to carry one around in my bag. They basically serve as a coping mechanism when I'm stressed. I have other things in there too, but these 5 things are the most important to me:) Great video!
I got a sensory box I keep at home and I take 2 sensory objects with me into public only that I carry in my purse that is my tangle and an oil and water toy
Hi! New to your channel, and I like it very much. I also carry around the Crazy Aaron's putty, as well as some fidget toys made of chainmaille--one's a moebius and one's a whirlybird, I believe. I also have soft toys I keep on my desk at home and dice I can role for an auditory stim, as well as helpful videos saved on my phone. Ear defenders I do more on a case-by-case, as I'm new to them and I'm never quite sure when I might need them. Great video!
I have sensory toys and depend on how I feel is what I take I am verbal but sometimes not understandable and if I do talk it will be about one thing I am going to be making communication cards and like the stuff on autism in case I am ever on my own and have sensory overload they can read it
I have a box of my favorite toys and sensory things. I have 2 chewing toys (small), 2 squeezing toys. I need to squeeze to relieve from my thoughts. I need those noise cancelling headphones because i will be an 8th grader. (yes i go to a normal school) I need those in order to survive at high school because in high school, it's a lot more noisy than middle school. Anyways, cool video!
Oh boy. Revisiting this vid and comment. Now, I'm 18 yrs old and go to 12th grade! I definitely got better with stimming and being comfortable with being autistic. I realized I sucked at masking so it was easy for me to unmask. It was a big thing for me because I live in a country where autism is HEAVILY stigmatized and not taken seriously. And uh, I got headphones and I used them a lot, I constantly need to change them as they wear out and I'm not good with taking care of my objects haha. I mean, I have one that has noise cancelling but the batteries are bad and it doesn't turn on so I just use them as stylish ear defenders. And uh, that's all I have to say for this update! :)
