Thank you Ronnie. Just completed this on my 2018 International Serenity. Worked like a charm. By the way, the solar system has been working great! Hope all is well with you and your family.
Thank You for helping so many people with your skills and for caring. I found out about your channel from Loloho. Just watched how you came to save them with a water pump. God blesses you and your love ones.
Thanks for the easy-to-follow video ... I did this modification today, and it took no time at all. May be the first time (or at least the first time in many years) I've cut threads with a tap, but it worked perfectly. Got the 10-24 tap, the 10-24 screw, the washers (the one with the big hole is 1/2 inch) at the Ace Hardware down the street. Works!
Ty for sharing! I know it’s only a matter of time before my door handle breaks off, tho I’ve bought a kit to install a separate grip/handle which I know will alleviate the stress we’re putting on that handle every time we pull on it to close. People be always “Oooohh, Airstream!” but we know better. There’s always something to fix. 🤷🏼♂️🪛🔨
Ronnie.....I did the door handle mod, but I'm having trouble re-installing the assembly. I can get the door to open from inside and out, but I can't get the lock to work. The lock works find without the interior door assembly installed.
@@airstreamnutsandbolts I made the mistake of using a screw that I had which was a 1/4-20. I figured bigger wouldn’t hurt. Wrong! I went to the hardware store and bought thin washers and a flatter head screw, but it still won’t lock.
@@billrector I used a 10/32 with the smallest head I could find and it too rubbed on the lock mechanism. Filed down and it's ok. Weird some of us install with no issues but others have this....I used slimmest washers as well...
Hey Ronnie, I have done this mode twice now and I never can figure how big the hole should be for the 1st spacing washer, I think I settled on 5/8" hole cuz my 1/2" drill bit didn't quite cover the hole. I'll file it a little bit so it's square and fits better.
I tried to do the mod on our 2022 International 27 FBT. Unfortunately, the screw/washer interferes with the door locking mechanism. It seems the space is too tight in there to have the screw and washer.
I had the same issue on 22 International. Did you find a solution? I kept the mod but have not been able to use that lock with the key. A bit tight to use inside also.
I decided to not do the mod. I did add the extra fixed handle on the inside. If we use that fixed handle, hopefully I can avoid an early failure of the hinged handle.

Bill,
You may need to file the head of the 10-24 machine screw down a little. It is probably rubbing on the lock mechanism.

Great video and explanation. Works exactly as stated.
Thanks. I’m going to try and do quite a few more of these little Mod instructional videos.
Great prventive repair. Mine was close to failure .
What size washers are those?
Can you follow-up with the washer sizes? We appreciate your help!

thank you for the video will mod our Airstream as well, can you share the size of the 2 washers used on this mod?
thank you in advance
That was a great tip - thanks
Glad it was helpful!

Vertical video so hard to watch on the big screen.
Ronnie, how do I communicate with you about some potential work? Can you share an email? Thanks.
