      Hi Julian, for your pot did you use cement powder only or was it concrete?
      Concrete is a mixture of sand, some aggregate (small stones) and some cement powder.
      It looks like you made it from just cement powder, can you clarify this?
      Cheers

      Hey, for this project I made my own mix from cement and sand. If you’ve seen that crack on my final planter you know I’ll suggest to also add some aggregate like you’ve said :)
      Cheers

    I love this video. You get straight to the point, give clear instructions and show excellent technique. I was looking for a way to make a concrete mold for a large vase and every other video I watched had the people breaking the molds to get the concrete out. I didn't want to do that, because it is so wasteful. Your video showed me how to do it without any waste. Thank you for posting. You earned a new subscriber for sure.

    • @JulianDoIt
      @JulianDoIt  6 лет назад

      Hey, thanks! You could look for aggregate that can be added to concrete in a hardware store. I forgot that in this project. I don't know if it's available in small quantities so maybe a ready for use mix is the better way to go. ;)
      For sealing I used a transparent spray lacquer that's suitable for stones. It's been written on the products information.

    How did you get the concrete to the bottom of the bucket? You out your small bucket in and secured it before putting in any concrete. The bottom of your planter was so smooth. Did you just keep pushing down the concrete hoping it was filling in the bottom?

    Really really nice....but just wanna know why my cement pots are not good for my plants?
    The soil in them gets fungus (becomes green) and the plant dies. While in the same circumstances, the plants in my clay pots are fresh and healthy and the soil in them is just fine.
    HELP.....!!!!!

    • @JulianDoIt
      @JulianDoIt  2 года назад

      Hey, sounds strange. This didn't happen to mine, so I only can guess what could a reason. It's very important to let the concrete fully cure, also after that apply a product to finish. So you'll have a layer between concrete and soil.
      I once had green soil in different pot as well. It was algae growth from over fertilizing.
      Hope this helps 🙂

    You call it "concrete" but it is really just mortar. Portland cement and sand. To call it concrete, it would have to contain stone, or some type of aggregate. FWIW, I prefer actual "concrete" planters to those made only with mortar, especially if you don't agitate the form. That leaves a honeycomb pattern in the sidewall, which is very attractive.

    • @JulianDoIt
      @JulianDoIt  6 лет назад +2

      You’re absolutely right. Just called it concrete because I think it’s something like an umbrella term for that kind of look ;)
      That honeycomb looks sounds very awesome, how do you make it? Just mixing cement, sand & water and only pouring in mold? Thanks for your comment!

      leeroy jenkins
      Hi Leeroy, the type of aggregate you use should be small stones for the pot.
      You can use lime stone or granite, it's really up to you.
      The type of cement could be either white or grey....
      You can also get some concrete colouring for it to get various different colours of concrete.
      Or you can use a stain after you have finished the pot to get something more interesting.
