    I am 77 years old and have been fishing for 70 of them. I find it absolutely amazing that the fish swimming in our lakes and streams have become so intelligent that they absolutely refuse to hit any lure that is tied onto monofilament line. The fear generated by seeing that 1/2 oz . collection of metal and silicone called a spinner bait being pulled through the water on the .025 mm. strand of mono. must truly be horrifying to them. The mono makes the spinner bait look totally unnatural.

      We use braid because it's thinner, stronger, cast further, and there's no stretch compared to Mono.

    Excellent as always, roundness measure is a killer!
    A sole little thing, as you can imagine, there are many sellers claiming they're selling "YGK" lines and are playing on words like this, however you can't be sure they all have a false YGK line that good... May be you should precise the seller!
    Cheers !

    This is a YGK counterfeit. I have measured many YGK braided lines in 0.8 PE using photography, and it's about 18/100, which is far from the 25 LB mark. A genuine 0.8 PE with the world's best fiber cannot withstand 25 LB, not even YGK's latest X9 generations.

    Interesting.... Didn't do as bad as you would think. Makes you wonder about the authenticity of what you are buying on some other sites. Great channel by the way, I got Silk Ocean x8 for my jigging setup based on your review!

      I agree, it certainly wasn't awful, but then again the price is quite high compared to general AliExpress lines. The main thing I was interested in here was the claim of genuine, which we now know is a little misleading.

    Strength to diameter is not bad. It's like most USA 10 lbs braid in diameter that breaks around 22-27 lbs. But it's price is almost 10 cents a yard. Cheaper to just buy 150 yds spool locally of 10 lbs braid.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 8 месяцев назад

      Yes your right, the comparison I did against the powerpro for the potential 'stretch' was the 8lb with a 26lb break.

    So is the maker of the line reselling it to someone else without YGK knowing and they doing custom spool lengths and reselling it chesper?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 8 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think so, there is no indication this has anything to do with YGK, and I have heard that YGK has all production in house.

    Why was the abrasion test done on an orange line not the green line that was used for the other tests? other than that I do find your videos very helpfull and enjoy watching them.

      There are color markings on the line at certain intervals. That abrasion tests just happened to be on that marking of a couple of meters.

    Half wondering if they didn't put the wrong sticker on the spool and that's why the diameter was so far off, that would not surprise me

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 5 месяцев назад +1

      Underquoting of both diameter and breaking strain seems to be common practice, so I'm not sure its an unintentional error.

  • @yep.fishing
    @yep.fishing 8 месяцев назад +1

    How much tension do you put on the line when you look at it under the scope?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 8 месяцев назад +1

      Just enough to keep it straight, so that isn't alot of tension. I have measured lines under 50% breaking strain and saw no difference in diameter.

    • @yep.fishing
      @yep.fishing 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@thelinelaboratory I wonder with this one considering the stretch what the diameter would be closer to the upper end of the breaking strain. Anyways, I have sorted out the 2 spools I am going to send you. I will express them tomorrow.

    At Final Summary 9:00 you state the stated breaking strain is “16 bs” which I assume is lbs but I thought this was a claimed 18 lbs? I guess the wildly over diameter helped it get good breaking strain results. Looks like all brands claim their line is thinner than it is. One brand on Ali has a pic of a micrometer showing the line is clearly .25mm in diameter and in the background is the spool from which this measured line is coming showing the label printing “.165mm”! 😮 So they know full well it’s all bs.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 7 месяцев назад +1

      This is rated at 16lbs on the box. And yes the 'bs' is a Freudian typo, should be lbs.

    If this stuff stretches then it is not 100% PE? Braid that stretches is doing my head in. 😅

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah hard to tell exactly what's going on. I acknowledge I can't measure stretch directly yet but when a line takes that much longer to break at the same force, and it's not slipping in the grips, something is up.

      Exactement, j'ai dit pareil, pour avoir testé beaucoup de ygk en tout genre, le diamètre est toujours identique que ce soit une nouvelle ancienne, une 4 brins ou 8 brins Mais il faut savoir que le diamètre externe max est plus gros d'environ de 20% par rapport au diamètre annoncé en PE. C'est normal car il ne s'agit pas vraiment d'un diamètre externe comme le serait un fluorocarbone mais plutôt une quantité de fibre qui représente un diamètre, mais le tissage de la tresse prend en volume. Par exemple une PE1 fait 16,5/100 annoncée mais une fois tissée elle gonfle et fait environ 20/100 en diamètre externe réelle. En tout cas leurs mesures sont extremement précises, la mesure PE # est beaucoup plus précise que le diamètre en centième de millimètre.
